Happy Halloween!!!

It is raining and thundering here today....very cozy and dark and creepy!  Perfect for Halloween!  I got a scare this morning as I opened my curtains there was the Sheriff's truck at my neighbors with another black car.  I was worried something had happened to her or someone had tried to break in during the night.  I waited until they left and then I called her.  Thank goodness she answered!  Evidently she had been 'scammed'....financially I am assuming.  She said she didn't want to talk about it as she was embarrassed.  I told her she shouldn't be as it happens to a lot of people.  She wouldn't elaborate which is sad as it could warn others but I was just glad she was okay and let it be at that.
I swear there's never a dull moment around here.  Just last month we had the 3 escaped prisoners wandering around our town!
I made the 15 bean soup last night and the Iowa cornbread with honey butter.........it is perfect for this weather and this time of year.  It was delish!  The Iowa Corn Bread recipe is in Susan Branch's Autumn book.  What are your plans for Halloween?  I will be ready for Trick or Treaters but whether there will be any will probably depend on the weather.  I will watch Hocus Pocus which is one of my favorite Halloween movies.  There's the soup and cornbread and some Pumpkin Ale in the frig.....and of course.........Halloween candy for dessert! LOL!
I hope you have a delightfully spooky Halloween!
 Happy Trails!!!

    1. Do you have that 15 bean soup in your area? I never saw it until I came down here. I like it.

  2. Happy Halloween! It's a bright and sunny day here and around trick or treating time it should be around 68 degrees, perfect but I wouldn't mind some rain and thunder. Your evening sounds wonderful and now you have me craving Pumpkin Ale! Maybe I need to stop at the store after work. I made Green Chile Enchiladas for a workplace potluck so that's what I'm having for dinner!

    1. This is the first Halloween I remember down here where it's rained. It's usually nice for the kids to get out and enjoy Halloween but I didn't mind as I am going to bed earlier and getting up earlier...at least I like to get my pj's on early! LOL!

  3. I am sorry that happened to your neighbor. I just don’t understand what is wrong with people these days and it seems to be getting so much worse. Your Halloween plans sound great. It’s rainy and cold here too, but we haven’t had very many trick-or-treaters the last several years anyway. I don’t quite understand it. When we built our house 16 years ago we would have between 300-400 trick-or-treaters. They would arrive in vans. Last year we had two! I didn’t even bother to get candy this year because I know I’ll be the one eating it and I definitely don’t need it. Enjoy your soup and cornbread !
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. I know here they have a "Trunk or Treat" where people park in the mall parking lot and open their trunks and the kids go from car to car trick or treating. I went one year and ran out of candy in about 15 minutes and candy isn't cheap. I won't buy the junk for the kids...I try to get them name brand ones that I would want at that age....needless to say, I won't spend $20-$30 dollars on candy so I stopped going. I usually get 5-10 trick or treaters if the weather is nice. Mostly because I decorate outside...my neighbors don't and they never have their porch lights on ever. It is a dark neighborhood with no street lights.

  4. Happy Halloween Sam my friend!!! Spooky on tonight! :) Oh, it was all about food for us. And the candy. What was I thinking getting so much? It's always just for me and Alex...I did a blog post about it too much candy lol...I have the night to myself. Alex tried to stay awake for the feast today, he's been having insomnia again, change of the seasons always does that to him. So after the big meal, he was out like a light! I'm going to do some Tarot card readings and watch a scary movie! Probably a cheesy Friday the 13th one! :)

    1. I can't wait to read your blog post! Alex is probably like me...I go to bed early and get up early but I live alone so I can do that without bothering anyone else. It is 3:30 right now! LOL! I had no trick or treaters so I too have candy and little packages of pretzels all for me now....good thing I buy what I like! I have Tarot cards somewhere but never really learned how to read them properly. I could probably Google it now. I watched some true 'hauntings' on Netflix as I couldn't find Hocus Pocus....it was pretty creepy! Hope you had a great one!

  5. Happy Halloween! We don't get any little ones today. The Churches do Trunk or Treat for the safety of the kids.. Its a shame they cant trick or treat like we used to when we were little. I cleaned all day and then this afternoon I went and had my nails done. Tonight I am watching House of Wax on Turner Classic movies. I love old movies and I am resting my aching body.. I hope you had a good day today!

    1. I love the classics! I don't have Turner though but You Tube has some good old ones and I love a good mystery too. I'll have to see if I can find House of Wax. I love the old horror movies. The ones today are way to gruesome and scary for me! LOL! I would be exhausted if I cleaned all day. I do clean but I take lots more breaks than I used to! LOL!

  6. Our churches and our schools all do "trunk or treat", neighboring communities do Halloween parades and businesses hand out candy. And we have trick or treat too. We don't get many kids anymore.- I think they are candied out!

    1. It's too bad parents have to be so protective of their kids nowadays...it's a scary world out there...when did it change? So sad for the children growing up today but glad they have found safe ways around it so the kids can still have fun on Halloween.

  9. Wow~that's a lot! I give out full size bars too but I usually don't get over 10 Trick or Treaters~lol! I can afford to be generous but 255? Do you have to save up like a Christmas Club? LOL! What fun to see them though. I missed it this year. Glad you enjoyed your Halloween.
