Lazy day...

I slept in this morning not getting up until 5:30 so I did not take a walk.  I stuck my head outside and it was already hot and humid!  They predicted storms but they haven't happened yet.  It's 90 right now and too hot for me to work outside...whew!  So, I worked on some secret crafts and I'm working on another lattice square.

I made my own oat flour out of organic steel cut oats.............you just measure how much you need and put them in a blender or food processor and VOILA......oat flour!
I needed it to make crackers.  Just plain this time to see how I like them but you can season them too.  This is before they are baked as I am waiting for the oven to heat up.  I have lots more dough but not sure if I'll make all of them today.
Other than that I'm getting ready to iron and read for a bit.  I'm finding if I wait until bedtime to read I get tired too fast to get any reading done! LOL!

A storm followed by a beautiful rainbow!

Pay no attention to the spider web on the outside of my window.....or the screen that I took the picture through...lol!  I was in my pj's already so there was no going outside...........
Here is a picture of the cookies I made last night.  They are Jan Hagen cookies and I have had the recipe for 40 or 50 years.  I have no idea who Jan Hagen is but her cookies are mighty good!
I will share the recipe with you as I only share the good ones!

Jan Hagen Cookies

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1 egg white
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Cream butter and sugar together.  Add egg yolk. Sift flour and cinnamon together then gradually add to the mixture.  Spread dough on a cookie sheet (or a pizza pan like I did).  Brush on a film of egg white.  Sprinkle on nuts.  Bake at 300 F for 30 minutes.  Cut into squares while hot and let cool.

Today I walked early and then it rained again for a bit.  I worked inside as it was so wet out even after the rain stopped.  I vacuumed my kitchen and family room and washed the kitchen floor.  I cleaned my tub and Grace's litter box.  I finished another lattice square.........
and then worked on Jane's Joy until I lost my needle!  I've also lost my needle minder.....there is no hope for me!
Now I'm going to go do my 15 minute cleanup and that will probably do it for me for today for chores.  I need to order more floss too.

They flew the coop!!!

I saw something last evening that I have never seen before in my entire life.  Remember I told you I had 2 birds...Mr. and Mrs. that were hanging around?  Well, the reason they were hanging around was that they had a nest in one of my old hanging planter bags.  Remember those bags you could hang and they had different holes and if you planted flowers they would entirely cover the hanging bag in blooms?  Well, I was looking out the window and all of a sudden I saw a little bird head peek out of one of the holes.  I looked over and the dad was on the clothes pole watching and the mother had flown into the top of the bag.  Pretty soon there were like 4 or 5 little heads peeking out and they started taking off!  Their first flight!  I have lots of bushes so they took off for those and it was like it was all planned as I'm sure it was.  The Mother was inside the bag pushing them out probably and the father was watching from the clothes pole.  Once they had all flown to the bushes at the back of the yard the father and mother flew there too.  I have not seen them since.  It was a marvelous sight to behold and to think all that time they were in that bag and I never once saw them peek out except when they were ready to "fly the coop"!  I took pictures but they didn't turn out.  I will never forget it though....it was amazing!
As for today.....another good one!  I took my walk and by 10:00 am, it was already in the 70's.  I hung out my 2 new hummingbird feeders; one I got from my daughter for Mother's Day and the other one I bought because I didn't know I was getting one for Mother's Day! LOL!  But I'm glad I have 2...the more the merrier!

I've got cookies in the oven; an old recipe that I love.  I had the chocolate mug cake last night but it was a bit rich for my taste.  I'm more a cookie and pie gal.
I finished another lattice square and I'm almost done with another.........

I did some decluttering and threw some items away so that was good.  We had a good storm this afternoon and it is still rumbling out there.  I lit a candle and it is a cozy evening!

Outside work..........

I have been working outside quite a bit.  Today I took my walk early and then finished painting the bird feeder..........it belonged to my parents and I found it in the basement.  I washed it well and then painted it.  I filled it with birdseed and also some orange rinds filled with peanut butter.  So far, I've only seen one bird there but word will get around!
 I finished this square today
 and then started this one...........
I weeded and trimmed outside and raked and burned. I still need to go out and water and I ordered some stuff from Walmart to be delivered.  I'm getting ready to place an Amazon order...again, for some hoses and a solar water pump for the birds.
I'm getting ready to prep a chocolate cake in a mug for dessert tonight.  I've never made one.  I wish I had some ice cream to go with it!

Happy June!!!

Here's a free little cross stitch design for you too if you should be so inclined............

Speaking of cross stitch..........guess what showed up in the mail today.............my material for Jane's Joy...now that Stitch Maynia is over with.  But that won't stop me! Here's the pattern and the material with just a teeny bit done on it ...........
It is a hand-dyed cornflower blue 28 count Jobelan and so soft!
We had a visitor today; a bird that would not go away and acted like something was wrong.  I went outside and tried to see if a bird had fallen from a nest or what was going on but I couldn't figure it out.  This is twice the size of the other birds I showed you the other day.
I had garbage to get out today and I went to the pharmacy and got my 2nd shingles shot. The first shot cost $172 but this one only cost $40 yet she said they are both the same! Go figure! I was the only one wearing a mask too!  I also drove out to the highway to get gas but the pump was broken for regular.  I moved my car as the neighbor was getting her roof done and they asked if they could use my driveway....they never used it!  I did get some bread made...........
That's about all the news fit to print.  I hope you had a great Monday and enjoy what's left of it!
