YOP Week #33

This has been a really good week for me.  I feel like I have made progress in many different areas of my life.  Some of which have been my YOP projects!  Remember last week I said I was "going back in time" to YOP 2012-2013 and there was the crocheted rug that I hadn't finished?  Well, I dug around and found it and started back on it and now I realize why I stopped.  It is way too painful for my hands.  It will also be too slippery on my floors so I frogged it, rewound the yarn and will use the yarn for another project.  As for the Seeing Stars blanket; I ordered the yarn from Knit Picks and Deramores and lo and behold the Knit Picks yarn arrived yesterday! This is Brava Worsted acrylic and very soft!  I can't start until the Deramore's Stylecraft Special Worsted arrives as the colors in the first block are contained in that order.  It's Join As You Go I'm pretty sure so I'll need to go over the instructions and get all my colors laid out.
I have some "finishes" this week.........I finished the crocheted hearts for my Valentine tree although it could use more those will come next year.........
I finished the Feather and Fan dishcloth and I'm pretty sure I have the pattern down pat now...but I did forget to put the 3 knit rows on the end to complete the border!  Duh!
The charity knitting is coming along very well!  I'm on the thumb gusset of the 2nd mitten.....I think this will be the year of the mitten!
I went to Walmart this week and replaced my reading glasses so I could do my cross stitch and I worked on Stars and Stripes Saturday.................1 more row of red and add the white to the blue section and it will be a done deal!
While I was at Walmart I also "enhanced my stash"...............
and started a crocheted scarf with this yarn that I purchased at the same time.............

We'll see how it goes.....there are dc4tog and dc7tog instructions which require paying a lot of attention!  No t.v. watching with this one!  I like the fabric it is creating but not sure I am picking up the right stitches.  You only really know when you get to the end of the row.  It is a super bulky too which I have never worked with before.
I have been watching A Wooden Nest podcast on You Tube with Lindsay Jewel and I love her! She knits and crochets and botanically dyes yarn.  So, of course, I went down that rabbit hole!  I've been researching botanical dyeing of yarn (and fabric) using natural materials.  I will be ordering some undyed yarn to try it.  She has come up with some beautiful yarns.
In other areas that I have made progress: I have been walking every day and now I am not huffing and puffing when I go up the hills!  I have also been preparing healthy foods except for Valentine's Day or any holiday where I get to do and eat whatever.  Last night I fixed  "overnight oats" and topped them with blueberries and banana this morning.  Easy, healthy and quick!  Just Google "overnight oats" and there are all kinds of recipes out there. I used almond milk and chia seeds in mine.  The "cleaning extravaganza" is going well.  So far, my bathroom, my closet, and my bedroom are done.  This coming week will be the hallway.  I am reading Marley and Me, a very good book! I'm also reading an antique book called Jerry Todd and the Up-the-Ladder Club written in 1937.  It's a middle school book probably but actually, it is well written and interesting.  I got both these books at a library sale.  Plus, I am reading Blue Zone Kitchens which is about the 5 zones in the world where people live the longest.  They have attributed it to their diet.  I will be cooking some recipes from Sardinia this week.

Here are your "tidbits" which are really things I have come across that I find interesting or inspirational or just plain funny!

  1. Mmm I love overnight oats, I too make them with almond milk and now I add a little kefir as well - lovely. Good on you for frogging the project if it will be no good. Love the dishcloth and mitts.

    2. I will have to experiment with the overnight oats. I bet they will be especially good in the summer when it's warm although I imagine I could heat them in the microwave for winter.

  2. Good for you for frogging the project that will not serve you. I am happy to hear you are making such great progress in so many areas of your life. I love the crafter's brain - although I think the chocolate area should be bigger! At least for me! I love your knitpick colours. They work so well together.

    1. Thank you so much. It is really weird as I must be the only woman in the world that doesn't crave chocolate or diamonds or furs! LOL! I like it once in awhile but not by itself. It has to be in a Reese's Peanut butter cup or have a salted caramel inside! LOL!

  3. Glad you were able to find the rug project and it's so smart of you to recognize why you stopped and that you didn't need to go any further with it. It's funny that those decisions don't seem obvious in the moment, but later - with fresh eyes, I guess - it's all so clear. And that's a beautiful dishcloth. You are inspiring me on so many different levels, Sam. I must get walking again. Even if just on my treadmill. Winter is why I have it, afterall. I hope you have a great week, friend.

    1. You inspire me too so it's a mutual admiration society! Actually, when I lived up North, I walked in all kinds of weather except pouring down rain. I love fresh air and when I was walking, even in below zero weather, dressed warm and moving I did not get cold. I walked in the rain the other day but it was just sprinkling. It's good for your heart! It's a muscle after all and I am guessing that exercising it will make it stronger although I have heard of quite a few "joggers" having heart attacks but running has never been my thing. Everything in moderation as the Greeks used to say! LOL!

  4. It has been forever since I made overnight oats. It must be time to do that again. So easy and nice to have it all ready for breakfast. Thanks for the reminder.

Congrats on walking each day. Mine is more hit and miss the past 2 weeks. I need to get on it so I can quit huffing and puffing after the first block. Thanks again for the reminder if why we need to walk or exercise.

I am glad you saved the yarn from your rug. Do you have any ideas for it? You knit picks yarn got there quickly. Hopefully the yarn from across the pond gets there soon so you can start the blanket.

I LOVED the photo of a crafters brain
    It is totally true too.

Looking forward to see what recipes you make this week.

    1. Actually, that walk around the block only takes me 10 minutes! I don't have any ideas for the yarn from the rug yet. I forgot to make my oats last night. I have to get in the habit of it. I think Knit Picks must have heard me complain as it was pretty fast! LOL!

  5. First of all, I loved all three of your tidbits today. I'm so glad that you're seeing the good results of your faithful walking every day. I started on Thursday and have been trying to walk, mostly at the mall because of the weather, but I did miss yesterday. I had a horrendous headache all day and it was everything I could do to walk to the bathroom. Even that jiggled my head. As long as I sat still it wasn't too bad so I knitted on some brainless projects. Today Dennis and I walked at the mall after church. Just one lap, but it's more than I have been doing. I want to be able to do two laps without being short of breath.
You're doing so well on the mittens. Good for you! I know they will be appreciated by whoever receives them.
    Have a great Monday Sam!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. My daughter had a bad headache last week and she went to the doctor it was so bad and she never gets headaches. It was her blood pressure! She is now on bp medicine. I've been concerned about her as she has been under a lot of pressure between losing her brother and now being the only income and taking care of her husband since the amputation. Mostly having to get him to his appointments and physically helping him and he is a big guy! Do you check your bp? I kept telling her to check but she puts herself last on the list. I told her if anything happens to her I will have to come and take care of them and I'm not sure I'm up for that! LOL!

  7. Thank you so much for the card and the heart! What a surprise that was in the mail on Saturday! Thank you! You are making progress on all your projects! I have not had a jammie day in a long time, perhaps I should schedule one! :)

  8. I love your term "frogging"! Probably because I do a lot of it. I'm currently using Bernat Softee Baby yarn for a blanket and it splits so badly I frog lots of stitches. It's a wonderfully soft yarn but I hate the splitting.
