Walmart Pickup!!!

Today was a lovely day; cloudy but 70 F and breezy which was great for the load of clothes I hung out on the line and the walk I took in the morning.  I did my usual chores and then made my spaghetti sauce.........it's not mine really, it's Mario Batali's sauce recipe for his eggplant parmigiana which I have used for years now as my pasta sauce for everything.  It's easy and so delicious!

Besides my daily chores I cleaned the frig too.  I always like to clean it before I go grocery shopping.  I also worked on my Miss Marple scarf on breaks.  I checked my Walmart order online and about 3:00 it stated it was ready for pickup.   So, off I went.  The young man that came out did not practice social distancing but he did ask if I wanted him to sign so I didn't have to and I said yes.  They tell you if they couldn't get something or if they substituted.  In my case, there was no bacon and they had to substitute my coffee choice.  No biggy.  I was grateful for it but right now my groceries are out in the garage.  My daughter said I need to wash where he opened the back of my car and I did then I brought the groceries into the garage and put the frozen food away as the freezer is in the garage.  I came in and washed my hands.  Then you're supposed to take the stuff out of the bags and sanitize...I'm just using soap and water and oh boy, what an ordeal. Especially for me at the end of the day as I'm tired.  I usually go shopping early in the day.  Now they're saying if you order it won't be ready for 2 days.  When I went the Walmart parking lot was packed and the sale barn for the county (farm animals) was packed.  There were only 3 of us in the grocery delivery parking area.  Not sure what people are thinking because if there's no testing how do you know who's sick?  Well, all we can do is try but social distancing didn't look like it was taking place in my neck of the woods!  I thanked the young man and the gal on the phone and wished them well.  I'm going to skip "tidbits" tonight as I still need to go sanitize my groceries and make my supper!
Happy Trails!!!

  1. Your sauce looks very yummy. Glad you got your groceries today. Was the delivery guy wearing gloves. All of ours do. They change between each delivery too to help keep the spread down.

  2. I know you're glad to get it done though. You mentioned the almond flour, I use that to make chocolate chip cookies and they are SO good. I shared the recipe on my blog awhile back. I think they are KETO ...if you do a search. Take care!

    1. I'll have to look up how to use almond flour as I think it is heavier than all purpose. The recipes I did see diluted it with all purpose...that doesn't help me! LOL! I'll look for your recipe...thanks!

  3. My DH thinks I'm overdoing it when I wipe down groceries. He tells me it's useless to try. I disagree. Today when I was reading the newspaper, it looked like it had been p-d on. Like it was yellow - ugh. Hoping against hope that was not the case (as it was on the dining room table), I asked him if it had gotten wet in the rain this morning. He smiled and said, "I sanitized it for you". lol

    1. Oh boy...you do have your hands full with him home 24/7! LOL! There was a video by a doctor on You Tube showing how to disinfect your groceries. Like in all things all I can do is try my best and "if she dies she dies"....that was an old punchline to a joke which I won't tell here. I left the groceries in the garage and cleared a counter in the kitchen and just used liquid detergent and water on a rag to wipe things down. I washed all my produce as I usually do in soap and water. I left the empty bags in the garage and won't use them for a week or so and then certain things that I won't use for a week or more (backup supplies) I will leave in the garage and not sanitize.

  4. I opened my vehicle for the delivery guy so he didn't touch anything I would have to touch. It is a different world out there. Yes soap and water works great for disinfecting...one guy said pretend your groceries have glitter all over them and try to get it all off...concentrating on the areas people touch like the tops of sacks....unpack what you can. Do the best you can. I know it is all exhausting :(

    1. I just washed the car latch when I got home. The video I watched must have been the same as he mentioned glitter too! I left everything in the garage and unbagged it out there and took a few things in the house at a time and washed them down. It really wasn't too bad except I'm really tired at that time of day. Hopefully all will be well and if it's not at least I tried!

  5. Your sauce looks really good Sam and I'm jealous of your 70 degrees. It only got up to 40 here today.
Your grocery ordeal sounds exhausting. What a world we're living in that we have to worry about washing our bags of groceries. I'm scared of the mail too. I made a menu plan for the next month and I think we can get by with no grocery shopping for that long. Our meals won't be exciting but that's okay. I can't get any pick up scheduled at our Walmart until after April 8th anyway and no guarantee that will be available.
I hope you have a great Saturday. Stay well my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. Oh my! No groceries until April 8? It must be worse when you live in a big city? I never thought about the mail....but I think they said the virus lives longest on hard surfaces but soft surfaces like cardboard and paper is about 24 hours. Don't quote me though. Check the WHO or the CDC.
You have a great weekend too!

  6. It's good you are able to still get out for a walk. I've gone a couple of times and see a few people walking but pretty much am just staying at home. I think folks are going a little overboard with advice to sanitize groceries. The chance of actually getting sick from that it is pretty low. Everyone should be washing fresh produce anyways, but definitely not with soap. Sanitizing your own hands before and after is your best bet. So much misinformation out there, especially about how long the virus stays on surfaces or in the air. I'm on a mission to use what I've got and get creative. It's my husband that can't keep himself away from the grocery store. He has a very hard time being still. Take care!

    1. I always wash my produce with soap for pesticide residue as I can't always get organic. So that was nothing new for me. It was a doctor that talked about wiping the groceries down. I figure I'll do what I can and if I get it I get it but at least I'll know I tried. Yes, the social butterflies of the world are having a hard time with the self-quarantining....me not so much. I'm always alone and I don't socialize....so this is nothing new to me and I like it. There is no one out in my neighborhood except for the lawn people they hire therefore I can walk anywhere. You're already a very creative cook so that won't be a problem for you! Stay well! Where are the boys now?

  7. We wipe ours down with homemade wipes, or I spray with anti-ill oil spray. It's a chore, but better safe than sorry too.

  8. Oh gosh Sam, "enjoy" sanitizing everything, I'm sure it's a pain in the butt!

  9. oh boy! That does sound like an ordeal. That's the thing. We need to sanitize everything. I think that's been the biggest change and challenge for me. How to keep things clean after going out. We've only ventured out once this past week. I've often thought about the online ordering and pickup from Walmart because our little town's grocery store just doesn't cut it. Anyway, so good of you to give us an update on how things are going in your area. And what it's like to grocery shop at this point. xoxo

  10. Ugh, people are not practicing social distancing or good hygiene here, either. I'm so afraid for my kids at their jobs because of what they've told me they've been seeing. I'm even more afraid to get out tomorrow morning to try to do the 6am senior time at Walmart because I have no other alternative at the moment. Keeping you in prayer for your safety and health! Blessings to you, Sam!

  11. I was a HIV-AIDS patient and I got it from cheating on my wife. It was sort of a payback but a week later I was told by a friend that the person who I cheated with had the HIV-AIDS virus and did not tell me. I was so stupid by not using a condom I thought since he was an old school friend he was trustworthy. But I was wrong. I cried and cried. Two days later, I got a phone call from my friend and he told me about a person who is known by another friend, who can help me. I could not let my wife know what I was going through. I finally got his email address: oseremenspelltemple@gmail.com and I emailed this man my story and he replied me immediately saying i should be calm and told me that everything will be OK. I could not come to terms with what I was hearing but then I concluded it did not matter because I was so broken I just needed help. I was going out of my mind literally. I was confused with what he was telling me, but I listened. He told me about some materials i need to buy that he needed to cast the spell and I said OK. I bought the materials to him, I sent down my picture to him and my positive result sheet and he replied me that i am going to be negative under 3days. I message Him every 2hours for 2day and I knew he thought that I was crazy but I did care I needed a shoulder. Behold, the third day he messaged me i should go for a test that i will be negative. My marriage could be broken because of a stupid mistake and my life was on the line. I remembered when I was going to get the results of my re-test I called him up again and told him that I was going to get my results today and his reply was “so" and that everything will be as he explained. I knew then that he was getting tired of me calling him, maybe I was wrong. Well I got my results and the first person I called was him - again. As he said hello I started to cry and cry. I could not believe it. I was given a second chance in life. This man is a great spiritual HIV/AIDS healer, his healing spell on aids healing is very powerful .please brothers and sister, contact Dr Ose oseremenspelltemple@gmail.com

  12. I am quite impressed with the blog information. It is very user friendly cover every aspect that food delivery business deal with. Since the technology is evolving especially in terms of grocery business, the rise of on demand grocery app development is also on rise. Such on demand solution delineated with pickup and delivery software brought food and grocery business to the limelight.
