I made corn chowder in the crockpot today........
I saved out some extra bacon for on top of the bowl of chowder and I'll probably make some garlic bread to go with it..............comfort food
I did some cleaning and laundry and took a walk........on breaks I worked on Scrapghan CAL and finished week #1 except for weaving ends in............
I'm also working on baby bib straps.....I wish I had something the size of a babies head to test the opening.......a musk melon? Their heads are pretty large in relation to their bodies. Any ideas? The strap will go around and connect to the other side and then just slip on and off the babies head from what I understand. Mine is only 7 " wide...supposed to be 9" but I should know better as I crochet tightly evidently.
I don't think I ever showed you what I got for myself for my birthday............it is a lap stand for punch needle. I also ordered a pattern and punch needle but they have not arrived yet. The pattern comes with the material but you have to transfer the pattern to it. You use embroidery floss to do the actual punch needle.

ReplyDeleteI sent you a little package....have you received it? I sent it before Christmas and it was sent back as the post people weighed it and evidently did not tell me the right postage. So I took it back, filled out paperwork for customs and it should be on it's way....again! LOL!

DeleteI love all of your little funnies! Usually I show them to my hubby and we both get a chuckle! Love those little mice. I've made some in the past but not this pattern. And I haven't made the chowder in a long time. Sounds good! Any left? heehee!

DeleteNever have I had Corn Chowder. It sounds yummy. Of course anything with bacon HAS to be yummy. Your Scrapghan is so pretty. I love the pattern that is shaping up. Your colors look quite nice together also. Those mice are so sweet. And the invisible tape was funny.
ReplyDeleteI will be posting the recipe today from Lavender Dreamer who got it from Diana somebody....I think I would use more potatoes and crush them up to make the soup thicker and/or add some flour.
DeleteI keep trying to use up all my old acrylic yarn but I am thinking I may just take it the Salvation Army. My taste in colors a has changed. I like more muted tones now a days. Yes, those mice are cute!
Your bib looks great! I have the straps all sizes...the Mom can always put a pin in it if it is too long ..it doesn't have to be exact! I also thought about making straps from both ends so it could be tied:) That Cal is so very pretty! :)

I like the idea of it slipping over the head because when a baby is hungry they don't like you trying to tie something around them....I remember that! They just want to eat so the slip over the head is so convenient.

DeleteI wish the punch needle would get here! I called them and they said they were waiting for it from the manufacturer! Why do people sell things they don't have in stock? So, it will probably be 6 weeks by the time I receive it! I ordered it in time for my birthday...yeah right! I guess I'll be ordering in June in order to get it on time! LOL!
Ha-ha! That tape is truly invisible. Corn chowder is one of the easiest soups I make. I no longer eat bacon but make it the same way my ex-mother-in-law taught me many, many years ago (substituting a plant milk now) ... and it still tastes just as good. We love having it with garlic bread and a salad. I bought a punch needle kit in the states years ago but turns out it didn't come with the actual punch needle. I don't even know where the kit is now, but can actually get a punch needle here in Kuwait -- back when I bought the kit it wasn't the rage it is now so supplies were limited. Maybe one day I'll be able to give it a go. Always hard to judge how baby items are going to fit, even hats. Heads can be all shapes and sizes. My firstborn had the biggest head and a whole lot of hair. He looked like a troll doll for the first 4 months of life. :)

DeleteWhat is plant milk and where can I get it? I'm trying to stay away from dairy but it's difficult when recipes call for milk or cream. I didn't even know such a thing existed. I'm not allergic but it's not good for me with cholesterol and fat.
Hi Sam. How was your chowder? It looks wonderful. I showed the photo to Dennis and now he wants me to make some but I don't have a good recipe. I tried years ago and it was awful. Do you have a good one to share? I made chicken and homemade egg noodles for dinner tonight. It was snowing again and it's such a filling and warm meal...just like your chowder.
ReplyDeleteI laughed at the invisible tape. Too funny. Your bib is looking great. I haven't had time to start one yet but hope to by the end of the week. I have a newborn size baby doll that I got at the thrift store so I try clothes and hats on her. Her head measures 14 inches around at the largest spot if that helps you.
I've never done punch needle before so it will be fun to see yours. Have a great Friday my friend.

DeletePlant based milk is like the almond milk you can get at any grocery stores. Since Piper is allergic to the enzymes found in dairy products, we use it for everything you would use milk for.
DeleteI don't have a real recipe for chicken and noodles. Boil the chicken, I like thighs for the flavor. De-bone it and put it back in the same water with an additional chicken boullion cube to add flavor.
For the noodles a put some flour in a bowl. A lot of flour if there are a lot of people, about 2-2 1/2 cups if it's just the two of us. Make a well in the center and put some eggs in. 6-8 eggs if a lot of flour. Last night I used 3. Some salt and stir. Add water to make a stiff ball. Roll out about 1/8 inch thick. I cut them with a pizza cutter. Let dry for awhile on a tea towel. Then put in boiling pot with the chicken for about 20 minutes or until done. Add salt & pepper to taste.
I know it's vague. I'm so sorry. My grandma taught me and nothing was written down, but they are amazing noodles. So simple and yet people have offered me money to make them for them! Flour, eggs, water and salt. That's it. And the chicken is just that with a bouillian cube added! Simple really is the best.
