Monday - 03/19/2018

Happy Monday everyone although it's almost over.  I thought I'd pop in and show something I think is so darn cute!  Irish Potato Candy..................look at these cute little "spuds"....they look so like real potatoes except miniature............

Here's the link to the recipe
They are in the frig chilling but I have a feeling they may be a bit too sweet for me.  I would probably be better off with the original Irish Potato Candy which I'm sure was made with potatoes and probably not nearly as sweet.  I'll let you know.  I should look up the history but today as always...the hours flew by in a flash!
I did take some breaks though and between last night and today I got to the third color on my Hitch Hiker Shawl........I'm addicted to this project and I have a hard time putting it down and getting back to work!  As my Mother used to say..."tut, tut"!
Sorry for the pictures but it was a dark,  cloudy, rainy day on and off.  The first color is gold, the second is sage green and the third is gray......love it!
I was having trouble keeping track of writing down my rows because my 2 counters were in use on other projects and that was why I was "messing up" but then I found an app on my Android tablet that keeps track of the rows/rounds and it sits at the top of my pattern that I downloaded from my Ravelry library!  How cool is that?  You all probably knew about this but it was news to me!  You can have multiple counters too for different projects and it allows you to name each one such as "Hitch Hiker Shawl".  Any other neat apps or tools out there I should know about?
***UPDATE on Grace and Nitty***
They both seem to be doing fine.  Grace's gums are getting pink again....she's strolling around the house and eating more from the syringe each time....like 3 pumps instead of just one.  She's still not eating on her own but I counted out 15 little 'treats' for her tonight when I put her in her 'hospital/craft' room and I will count in the morning.  She drinks fine and is using her litter box.
Nitty is back to her old self....no more seizures, eats and drinks well and is back to going up and down the stairs.  She has a bad hind leg but she manages so far.  I am going to look into the handle thing that wraps around their middle that Far Side has for her border collie, Chance.  Thank you all for your concern and well wishes.
Happy Trails!!!

    1. They are tasty but a little too sweet for me. I may look for the original historic potato candy but then I'm not much of a candy person at all. LOL!

  2. So glad to hear that Grace and Nitty are both on the mend! Yes the harness with a handle works real well for Chance:) We also bought him a ramp...he hates it but will use it to get in the vehicle:)

    1. I already have the ramp and Nitty doesn't like it either but she'll use it. There were all kinds of harnesses on Amazon. Did you get one specifically for the back legs? Is that where Chance is weak? With Nitty it's her back legs; her left hind leg.

  3. I really like your hitchhiker. How many skeins of the Mandala yarnwill you use? I looked at it today at Walmart but didn’t buy any because I wasn’t sure whether I should buy one or two skeins. I’m so glad to hear about Grace and Nitty. I know that is a relief for you too. Have a wonderful day tomorrow and enjoy your crafting. Even if the hours fly by, at least you’re having fun!
    Blessings, Betsy

    1. I think 1 skein would be sufficient but look at the pattern on Ravelry. I think you can check the yardage without buying the pattern. The Mandala has 590 yards per skein. I am about halfway done with 21 "teeth" on the edge and the pattern calls for 41 but you can go bigger or smaller. I figure I will use up the whole skein just to be efficient but I have more than 1/2 skein left at the halfway mark. I happen to have 2 skeins but I bought it awhile ago for some other project? Who knows...you know how my mind flits from project to project. I did see the Centaur color way when I was at Walmart the other day and bought 1 skein as I figured that was all I needed to make another one.
BTW.....a tip on the Mandala....I had a knot in mine where they joined colors and I knitted over it...DON't! It makes an eyesore on your shawl! From now on, whenever I see a knot I will cut it and join like I would a new color...that way at least you can weave in the ends. Their knot leaves you with too short of yarn left to weave in so it sticks out like a sore thumb. You probably already knew this but I am a slow learner! LOL! Now you know why the first of anything I make is for me!

  4. Hi Sam, so happy to hear the fur-babies are well, how scary! I have been out of touch, I'm sorry about that, but things are back to normal...well, as normal as they can be lol! Your potato candy looks like something I would eat! :) Never too sweet for me! The shawl is just so pretty. Happy first day of Spring!!! xx

    1. I am still praying that Grace will kick back. The vet said that Nitty will probably have more seizures....maybe worse. After all she is 14. The vet said she had never seen a Rottweiller that old which made me feel better. Last night my daughter called and asked if I wanted a Rott puppy.....no thank you! I would love to but I no longer have the stamina to train one nor the money to dole out for the proper "care and feeding". How I would love a puppy but I cannot!

    2. I know the feeling. We said we'd stop after one dog lol...it's a sickness ha ha! My last dog Spencer, the pug, passed away at 19. Dogs do live longer lives these days and you are giving Nitty a great life. Poor little gal. Prayers for Grace...and for you too! I hope your health is good too!
