YOP Week #31

I still don't have a camera but I am  using my tablet to the best of my ability.........I finished the bottom of my sweater..............
and I've picked the sleeves back up and have started working one of them..........
The directions for decreasing weren't entirely clear to me so I checked a couple video's on You Tube regarding knitting raglan sleeves and I think I figured out what her directions meant.  It's really mathematical so I love that!  I did the math and I think I'm on the right track.  I want to shorten the sleeves too maybe even 3/4 length as I always end up pushing them up so I can do dishes or stick my hands in water so 3/4 length is great for my lifestyle....we'll see as I go along.
I finished one of Susan B. Anderson's little hearts that she hand felts.....I'm sticking mine in with the darks when I wash them.  I've felted things before and I think some agitation with other clothes will do the trick!  I'll see how I like it when it's done before I make any more.  This picture is pre-felting.
Since I'm done with the size 8 circular from the sweater...I can now use it on my Cozy Memories Blanket....because I tried using straight needles and I didn't care for it.  I never did find the original one that I  used for it....leprechauns!  They're everywhere!  I almost got 4 squares done but not quite!  I need to measure it again too.
I haven't worked on my Christmas Eve socks as I need to find some yarn to continue with once I run out as I know I will.  I need to get a move on if I want to do the Box of Socks this year!  Also, there's my "Ornament a Month" self-imposed KAL if anyone wants to join me.  Last year, Amber from Maker's Haven did one but she's not doing it this year but I am!  I'll try anyway and I am trying to make the star for the top of the tree that I failed miserably at last year..............Amber's free pattern.

I haven't gotten too far yet...I knitted all the star points just fine with the beads last time but I got carried away sewing them together and forgot to leave room to attach the points to each other....DUH!!!  So, it was in timeout for a year.....I can look at the yarn now without bursting into tears.......lol!
I watched Maker's Haven podcast last night and she's doing washcloths and highly recommended the book put out by Knit Picks on Kitchen Cloths.  I think I may need that one myself.  I have plenty of cotton yarn to make some and it would be nice to have them on hand for gifts etc. or just to replace the old ugly ones.
Inside Number 23 is having a KAL for garments using patterns from Michele Wang....it's for 3 months and you can use a WIP and you don't have to finish it in the 3 months!  Sweet deal and there will be prizes, of course.  If you know of any other knitting or crafting news please let us know!
I didn't really have any finishes this week.  I was on the phone with my friend who  had surgery and she is doing great!  I'm so happy!  She had a double mastectomy and came home the next day....she's amazing and so brave!  She's in great spirits, no pain just a little uncomfortable.  She's not even taking her pain meds and she's by herself!  Women are so strong!  I may be knitting her some 'knockers' after she's all healed up.  She mentioned it to me and the website is https://www.knittedknockers.org/  if you are interested in making any.
My grandson, Sam,  had some leg pains on the same leg that they removed a tumor from when he was 5 or 4 (?)  (he's 10 now) They had an appointment at the University of Iowa with the surgeon and  he's fine....no returning tumor or problem...whew!
I've been on the phone TRYING to get an answer from my doctor (you can never talk to the doctor though as the nurse screens the calls and I'm thinking she didn't even ask him because her answer did not sound like something he would say).  Anyway, my liver function results were high but I still don't know why.  I am hoping it is one of my medicines and not a problem with the heart muscle or hepatitis!  She told me he said to lay off the alcohol and not take Tylenol.  I told her I do neither....and that doesn't sound like something he would say....I've known him longer than she has!  He doesn't "assume" anything and he is very polite and would ASK me if I was drinking alcohol or taking Tylenol not assume like she did.  I had to call her twice before she got back to me after 3 days!  She also lied and told me she had called me but didn't leave a message....I have caller id and it records every number that calls whether they leave a message or not and there were no calls from them.....hmmm.  I don't like people that lie to me and I'm pretty sure I will be telling him the next time I see him.  Obviously she is not going to let me talk to him.  I think she's making her own recommendations without consulting him at all!  Scary!
Anyway, that's been my week pretty much so not a lot of progress on any front except I am SO happy everyone is healthy and healing!  I hope you had a great week and please stop by and check out the makes from other YOP'ers here
Happy Trails!!!

  1. Yay we can cheer each other along with the Wang-along!! I am excited to get started - pattern is purchased and yarn has been ordered! I hope you get some answers from your doctor! It really does sound like the nurse is overstepping her bounds - not cool!

  2. I'm so glad your grandson is alright, and your friend is doing great. It's true, women take things in stride that would have grown man break down. As for your nurse, it sounds very scary. Do tell your doctor about it, he needs to know, especially if she really is making up answers to medical questions instead of consulting with him.

Can't wait to see your sweater in all its completed glory. ;-)

  3. That's awful about the nurse, I hope you get the answers soon. But great news about your grandson and your friend doing so well. A couple of my friends have been in the same boat with different outcomes but are both so strong and brave.
I love the look of the sweater and your heart is gorgeous. I am knitting a garland for Christmas if that counts, I will knit along with you!

  4. I used to call the nurse that worked for my previous doctor the dragon lady - it was so hard to get past her to him. Hmphf. I hope you can solve the mystery of your liver numbers soon. I am glad your grandson is ok. Such a worry. I love the yarn you chose for your sweater. I too like shorter sleeves - when I make them longer I am always always pushing them up out of the way! You have lots of KALs on the go - your ornament one sounds so cute - and now I have to go see what the Wang-along is all about. lol.

  5. Hi Sam :)

Your sweater at first glance looked like it was out in a little snow storm! :) It looks really great. All of your projects are so good, how did you find the time??

I think those knitted knockers are fabulous, what a nice idea to knit for your friend. She is a strong woman indeed...no painkillers! Oh my gosh about that nurse. I'd tear her a new one the next time I saw her...you definitely need to speak to your doctor in person. If he's known you that long, he wouldn't have said what she said he said...wow that was a mouthful lol!

  6. Your raglan looks great to me. I'm glad you got the instructions sorted out. What did we ever do before Google and YouTube?!

Sounds like the health news is all good, so that must be a relief. And you definitely have need to push for an appointment with the doctor - never mind what the nurse has to say. My sister is a lawyer and she told me once that they prefer not to have nurses or teachers on a jury, as they never listen and always want to be in charge and make the decisions. Every time I run into a bossy boots, I think of that and wonder if they are/were a nurse or a teacher!

  7. Well! My doctor had a NEW nurse last year that was just like yours. She was so rude to me on the phone after I waited 4 days for a call back. I stopped into the office because I’ve gone there for years and know all of the staff. I asked the receptionist to let me speak to the office manager, (who just happens to be our neighbor): After a conversation telling him about her attitude I was told I wasn’t the first complaint. When I went to my actual appt. the next week, she was gone and another new nurse was there. She’s not a lot better in my opinion. I miss Rosie, who retired and started this whole mess. :-) She’s blissfully taking care of a new great granddaughter and doesn’t care about any of us. Ha! Ha! Actually, she was a wonderful nurse who has earned every moment of her retirement.

I’ve made those knitted knockers for a few friends and also sent some to the organization that gives them out. A VERY worthy cause. Your friend sounds like a very brave woman.

I’m starting a pair of socks for Dennis today, but not joining the box of socks KAL. I give them away as fast as I make them so never have enough for a box at the end of the year.

Your sweater is looking great and I think the 3/4 sleeves are a wonderful idea. Very practical. The little heart is darling. I’m sure it will felt beautifully with the other clothes.

Have a great afternoon my friend!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. If you remember my liver functions were sky high in November and it was because of one of my Arthritis meds that I had been on for 20 years but I had to tell the Dr that. 2 months later without the drug and I am normal again. Insist on the Dr calling you back. Also, go online and look up the side effects of your meds. I bet you will find the culprit. Then you call the nasty nurse and inform her of what YOU found out. Be aggressive........they will learn not to mess with you from now on.

Your crafting this week is coming along nicely. I love raglan sleeves in sweaters. I think they are one of the easiest ones to do.

I hope your heart felts ok and your Christmas star behaves itself.

  9. Sandra, it's good to read the good reports both of your friend's progress after surgery and that your grandson is tumor free! Great news!

What you are experience with your doctor's nurse is disturbing. Do talk to your doctor about it. I hope he is responsive. Betsy's suggestion about talking to the office manager is a good one, too. I didn't even realize there was such a thing until I was having problems with a doctor's office two years ago - I guess a complaint I stated made its way to the office manager and she called me to get it all cleared up. I won't bore you with the details, but she was a game changer for me (until she went on leave to have knee surgery and was out for weeks for recovery). By the time she got back I was done with my need for that doctor's services, but she made a difference for me when I was just about ready to write the place off.

Your projects are looking great and I love your sweater! The yarn, your perfect stitches, your modifications. I'm so looking forward to seeing the finished object.

  10. i am happy for your grandson dear Sam!
though the behaviour of your nurse is weird and suspicious i think you should immediately meet to the doctor and tell him the whole story .

hope you are not taking the situation on your nerves as until you meet the doctor by yourself!

i loved your sweater's first look and this is elegant!

please take great care and stay positive ,i know you a re wonderful strong person my friend!

  11. Oh man, I'm sorry it's been a hassle trying to get a hold of your doc and that you have to deal with dubious advice from the nurse. I hope you get a hold of him and make sure you tell him what she said; wth? Glad the grandson is all clear and man, your girlfriend is a freakin' Amazon! Wow, I'm in awe.
