YOP Week #9

Not a lot of progress on handwork this week but there was progress elsewhere.   Part of the problem is that things got shoved into containers haphazardly getting ready for company and now I have to search for things and not sure where I stashed them! LOL!  It takes longer to "unearth" my supplies, that and Miss Peeps causes me to have to put everything away or she will destroy it!
I did make progress on the secret Christmas present (one of many) and I am now on the second section of unnamed gift........
I had to take a tutorial on You Tube for joining squares "invisibly" and I found a wonderful one that had 5 different ways to join squares by a young man from Crochet Crowd.  It was excellent...just look for yourself!
Learning takes time and you go through a lot of tutorials that aren't what you're looking for or aren't very good until you find the right one but this one is on my list now so I can go back to it.  I highly recommend it!  So, I have a few squares to stitch together but each one gets faster...a great t.v. project this week.
You've heard of the "man cave"?  Well, I have a "woman cave" now where I can go to get away from Miss Peeps for a bit and close the door and work "uninterrupted".  It's my middle bedroom which has a hide-a-bed but with the guests gone it is now going to be my crafts room.  I got the closets cleaned out a few weeks back and maybe 1/2 the room but there is more work to be done and I need to organize the rest of my fabrics and yarn and bring it in here when I'm done.  Right now it is residing in my dining room (fabric and sewing) and my guest room (yarns).  Someday Miss Peeps will have learned the rules here but for now God isn't finished with her yet...or me either for that matter! LOL!
I also spotted another WIP that I can't wait to get back to but need to have a "finish" before I drag that one out too.  The fabric on the couch is what I think I will be using for my quilt binding.  I laid it out there to see..I had my quilt in there earlier.  I need to unearth my cutting board and actually get a bigger one.  But things are progressing along with the daily chores and maintenance.

Here's another side of my crafts room but the table that stuff is sitting on will be going to the Thrift Store, I've decided.  So, that area will change.
I hope you had a good week and that the fires are out and the flooding has receded and whatever else anyone might be dealing with.  Be careful out there and have a good week ahead!
Happy Trails!

  1. Sorting through online tutorials is hard work ... the voice must be calm, clear and soothing, the pace should be not so fast that I can't keep up and not so slow that it gets tiresome, the sample being demonstrated must be easy to see, the camera work must not be overly shaky ....hard to find the perfect tutorials!

Looks like you've found a winner!

I had a yarn room for a while but it was more about storage and I didn't end up spending any time there. So now that my "stash" is down to +/- a basket of yarn we've remade the yarn room back into a guest bedroom.

It'd be kinda fun to have projects hidden here and there - like an easter egg hunt!

    1. It IS like a treasure hunt around here and I feel like an archaeologist at times! The grand kids love visiting because they think grandma lives in a museum! LOL!

  2. Ah, to have a yarn room!! I love your big sheep on the wall. Finding your stash and trawling through the internet is a valuable job, glad you found what you needed - have a great week.

  3. It must be fun going through your things and unearthing everything again. Like Christmas in August! Poor Miss Peeps. She has lots to learn...but she sure is cute. I also love your sheep on the wall. Perfect for a yarny craft room.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. She is really bad this week. Things she never bothered before she is now getting into and she attacks my other cat, not sure if they're fighting but I know Grace doesn't like it. They tumble around and make cat noises but no blood and Miss Peeps just keeps at it. I think she's taking advantage of their good nature...no blood ...yet! LOL!

  4. Reading your post I may be motivated to go straighten up my yarn room. The largest part is organized, but it seems I have this problem with buying more yarn and tossing it (in its bag) into the yarn room until I can get a photo of it. And add to that the problem that yarn left over from a project never does put itself away. And then there's the issue of sometimes needing a quick place to stash the yarn that mysteriously wanders out on its own (I'm sure of it). And well...it seems every month or two I need to spend time straightening up and organizing my yarn room. It's always an exercise in finding something I'd forgotten about, so it's a good thing in the end. One of my goals is that my yarn room be for more than storage. I want to get it to the place where it's inviting to actually work in there. :^)

    1. Hi Becki, I'm with you as in the yarn storage and wanderings. I've even looked on Pinterest for ideas specifically for yarn but nothing that really was any better than my plastic containers. I am smarter than I was though because I do know the differences in the yarns now and that helps! LOL! I'll be working on that same project this week. Good luck to both of us! LOL!

  5. Ooo I want a woman cave! Seriously, I have a little bit of knitting stuff stashed in every room of our little house. I'd love a room for everything and most importantly a space to block projects that's not a bed or somewhere the dog can walk all over it. Enjoy arranging your space! I agree with the others that sheep is great!

    1. Thank you. I've even more motivated to keep going now with all your nice cmments and I really need to see what I have and what I need for all those Christmas presents I am making. I might even have to order more yarn....what a shame! LOL!

  6. It's amazing how many patterns and tutorials are out there...but you have to spend a lot of time finding good ones. I love the pretty colors you're using. I crochet more in the winter months! Hugs!

    1. Yes, I would be lost without the internet and You Tube and Pinterest and of course, all my blogging buddies that keep me up to date and interested in their projects. Thank you, Diane!

  7. It is wonderful to have a room just for your crafting. Good for you and your woman cave. Mikey is the guy at Crochet Crowd and he does wonderful tutorials. He's a hoot.

  8. Great idea to make a craft room for yourself. I wish I could have a space for everything and everything in its place because I can never find what I'm looking for. :)

Have you gotten any emails from me? Every time I respond to your comments, I get a failed delivery message.

  9. What a great idea to have a crafting room, some place where you can sit back and relax and craft and where everything has a place. Looking forward to seeing what the unnamed Christmas surprise gift is going to be?

    1. I'm excited about "the craft room" too as maybe it will prevent me from spreading all over the house! Yes, everything in it's place....a fantasy of mine.

  10. How wonderful to have a craft room!

I am the same about squirreling things out of sight sometimes and forgetting where I put them.

  11. I don't like it when someone pins a pin and it takes you to the website's front page and from there you have to search for what caught your eye. I like the colors of your squares. It looks like you're whipstitching?

  12. We just took another load to the thrift. If feels rather good too. Looks like your projects are coming along nicely.
