YOP Update and an FO!!!!

Yes!!!!  I have an FO .....I finished all three of my washcloth/towels and I really like how they turned out.  I had one mistake in my stitches in each cloth....sort of  like that Amish tradition of putting  a mistake in each quilt they make because only God can make something perfect.  Well, mine weren't on purpose but my knitting is very even now after knitting 3 of these. But the hardest part of the whole project was weaving in the ends and keeping it decent looking at the same time.  I've decided that since they're too big for washcloths yet too small for a kitchen towel, I'm going to use them as guest towels in my "guest" bathroom.  It has tan walls and beige fixtures and tile and red is my accent color in there so it will be perfect! I didn't plan it but it worked out that way. I think I'll place them in a white enamel dish with red edging.  I'll post when I get that done!

Oh!  I also learned right side from wrong side I think.  See the middle towel....I obviously didn't know that when I knitted that one! LOL!  The left side stripe was supposed to look like the right side stripe....yeah.
But I'm learning and as long as I keep improving and learning I'm a happy knitter!
Below is not an FO but this particular block is done.  I'll be starting a new one this week.

I worked some on my crocheted table runner too and it is about 3/4 done.

I started on my first pair of socks and actually had it on the needles with the first row FIVE times so far but to no avail!  But I am not giving up...I may set aside while I knit a bath mat but I will not give up on this!  One of these times I will do it correctly and it will look "right" to me.  I am using the Magic Loop method but so far the "magic" hasn't worked for me! LOL!  I think my knitting angels need to give me a helping hand on this one!

See the "curly" yarn.....it is tired from being "cast on" so many times!  And look at those teeny, tiny needles!  OMG.....can this knitter be saved (taught)?  In true Olympic spirit though I will prevail!

You know.....if she'd just get her hands out of the way I might be able to see how it's done! LOL!
I hope all YOUR projects are coming along splendidly and cheers to all who are participating in the Ravellenics and the Olympics too!  Have a great week of YOPs!

  3. Really great work on the cloths and I love the stripes. Best of luck with the sock, I don't use magic loop I'm a dpn kind of gal but I know you can do it, had to laugh at the persons hands being in the way I'm the same when watching video tutorials lol.

  4. I think your cloths and towels are fine. The middle one is just reversible now. As for the magic loop.......it is the only way I do my socks. Are you doing toe up or cuff down. Surely there is another video out there to help. How rude for her hands to be right where you need to see.

  5. I sometimes try to use the magic loop with crochet, but honestly, if you do the regular start loop properly and then pull the tail, it all works out the same. Your cloths look great -- no matter the right or wrong side. I get confused on that, too. Have a great day. Tammy

  6. Your cloths look great! I make my socks with magic loop. Took me a bit to get used to, but then I was off and running. Good luck!

  7. Well done on your cloths, they look brilliant, and sound like they will fit the bathroom perfectly. The runner is going beautifully, isn't it cheery! I am more than impressed with your sock making....magic loop....totally over my head! I've bought some sock yarn, but have yet to brave it!

The Olympics are very addictive, I didn't think I'd be so into it, but the boys and I have watched quite a bit....we watched the diving earlier, two in tandem, amazing....the middle boy was lying on his tummy practising his front crawl....hopefully all this watching pays off!

  8. I have to admit I really admire your tenacity. I think after 5 times, I'd probably through the whole thing across the room. LOL. You will master that magic loop and have those socks finished in no time. BTW, what is a magic loop?????

  9. I love your hand towels and the plan you have for them--red is my favorite color and is an accent color all over my house.
You can totally do the socks--
If you just need a regular Magic Loop video, I think this link will take you to the best video tutorial around--

If you are doing toe up--here is a different technique (still magic loop) called Judy's Magic Cast On--

Loving the Olympics from my living room --women's gymnastics and swimming on right now==
    Hope the videos help!

  10. Hahaha, I'm working on my first pair of knitted socks using long circulars during the Ravellenics, too! I also had to restart the toe about 5 times, but now things are going well. For me, it was more of an adjustment to knitting with tiny needles, I think. I agree, you will prevail!

Congratulations on learning right from wrong side. That will really help your knitting blossom.

  11. Good morning!
    You are certainly determined!
I think it's great that you aren't giving up.
I think the washclothes/towels turned out great!

Have a great week, and I hope you make great progress on your projects!

  12. Well done on the FO. And the magic loop will come with practice, honest, at some point it will just fall into place in in your head. ut meanwhile knitpicks has a good tutorial here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdSpc0EZpnk

Glad you enjoyed the Olympic opening ceremony :D

  13. I completed a couple of double ended crochet (croknit) washcloths in pretty shades of green cotton. I enjoy the way they look and they are reversible with a different look on each side. A bit slower than regular crochet but since knitting has proved impossible for me so far (maybe in the dark of winter I will sit with it long enough to learn)croknit is a good compromise.

  14. Socks are such fun once you get the hang of 'em! So much fun yarn and so little time committed to the finished project (relatively speaking of course). I hope you make it through the first pair and catch the fever!

  15. Your cloths are great and your progress is great with your knitting. I too started with small things and even managed to reverse a pattern when knitting a face cloth so half the design was on one side and half of the other - no idea how I did but hey ho, thats how we learn!

Good luck with the socks - the magic loop scares me witless so I stick with DPN's - maybe give them a try instead of the circular needle?

Look forward to next week's progress, L x
