Not much to offer you today. It was grocery list and shopping and it was a big one. It included Thanksgiving. I also had to pick up prescriptions and get wood in as rain is coming tonight and tomorrow so they say. It's not that I am so sweet I would melt it's just easier to do all those things when it isn't raining and then when it rains I can stay inside with firelight and candlelight and cook and clean and craft to my heart's content. I was so tired when I got home I put the groceries away and took a nap! Me....a nap! Evidently the time has come for napping. But here are a few things for Thanksgiving prep!
I have always wanted to sew pretty table runners so I had best get going! Isn't this a pretty one for Fall and Thanksgiving? Log cabin or court house steps? I can't tell............
Here's a recipe from Susan Branch for Turkey Meatloaf in case you don't want to do a big turkey. I remember one year that my in-laws were coming and I made everything but the turkey which they were bringing. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how much you like your in-laws), there was a big snowstorm and they couldn't make it. The kids were wondering how we could have Thanksgiving without a turkey............well...........I defrosted several pounds of hamburger and made a meatloaf shaped like a turkey and put those fancy paper ruffles on the legs so we had turkey for Thanksgiving! LOL! This recipe might be more in keeping with the turkey theme as it actually contains turkey!
That's all for today.....I'm beat but I'll be back tomorrow to share my little Thanksgiving menu and other foods for the weeks ahead. What are your plans and foods for Thanksgiving?
Happy Trails!!!

I did my big shopping yesterday; surely didn't dare wait any longer. My son will bring the turkey, but the rest is up to me. I keep wondering how far you live from me, for I am an Arkansas girl too!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Horseshoe Bend AR which is North Central and about 1 hour from the Missouri border. Where are you?
DeleteWe live out in the sticks in Eastern Johnson County about 20 miles from Russellville. Funny that I hadn't read your profile to see where you lived, until I kept noticing your weather sounded so much like ours.
DeleteTurkey shaped meatloaf! lol That is great! I've come down with the crud this week, but hopefully I get this knocked down and dh doesn't get it 'cuz we've got company coming here on Thanksgiving day. We're doing Italian. I like turkey (love the leftovers more), but my family's not fan enough to go to the effort very often.
ReplyDeleteI love Italian too! What are you making? Have you ever made that Zuppa Toscana soup recipe from Olive Garden? That is now our new Christmas Eve special....yummy!
DeleteI hope you feel better soon! If not though just let every one wait on you!
I still have to do my shopping for Thanksgiving although I did buy the turkey last week before I got sick. I'm hoping by Friday I'll feel up to leaving the house because I sure don't want to wait until the weekend. It will be crazy out there. Our kids start arriving Monday afternoon, then it will be an airport run every day until Thursday when the last two arrive! I can't wait and I have to get better.
ReplyDeleteThe doctor called in a prescription cough syrup for me last night and I slept just a little bit better. I haven't left the house in a over a week now. I don't know the last time that happened!
Enjoy your crafting time my friend. I'm keeping you in my prayers.
Blessings,
Betsy
I'm keeping you in my prayers! You and Becki both sick and you're both having company? Hmmmm....maybe your subconscious is telling you you're tired of doing holidays? I don't miss it. I just do for me and it's quiet and nice and I get all the leftovers! LOL! Get better so you can enjoy your company.
DeleteCute story about your makeshift turkey! I will shop for our turkey today. Hang in there Sam, go for walks!! The girls are with you in spirit!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Connie....it comes and goes but it doesn't last....it passes and I go on with my day but it does surprise me how it hits me so hard sometimes....out of the blue. I'm not depressed or anything though so that's good.
DeleteI was lucky I had room to fit mine in the freezer! Why do I not think of that before hand? It was a miracle I got it in there! LOL!
That Thanksgiving dinner you made sounded good...and fun! I bought a frozen turkey breast today so I'll pop that in the oven and make some yummy sides! I love to watch football so that's on the menu too. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteDitto on the turkey breast and football!
