YOP Week #53

Have you wondered why I haven't been around since last Tuesday?  My monitor finally bit the, I had to order another one from Walmart as they didn't have one in stock and it just arrived yesterday afternoon!!!  Whew!  I thought I was going to miss the "wrap up" post and so much more!  Once again I have catch up to do with all of you.
Once I installed the monitor I spent the rest of the afternoon using Pic-Collage making monthly collages of all my finishes for YOP 2018-19.  The photos aren't very good but it is what it is.  It could be this's very small.  So here goes.......bye bye YOP 2018-19 and next week we will welcome in YOP 2019-20!
I will catch you up with what's been happening here on the homestead at the end of my wrap up.

JUNE 2019

and that's it folks!  If you can't see the picture very well you can click on it and it will enlarge.  Also, if you think you are seeing some items twice it is either because I made duplicates or I showed it when I finished stitching it and then again when I sewed it into the finished object.

Now, for a recap of what's been happening since I went offline!

I finished "the pool project" and have 1 spaghetti squash planted in will spread for sure!  A lot of work for one plant but I will be using this planter again...unless I move...hopefully!

After the peas had produced I planted 2 zucchini squash in the horse trough..........
I have tomatoes!!!  Babies but they are coming along....these are cherry tomatoes.........right on my front porch!  I pray the horn worms(?) stay away!  Last year I came outside and the entire plant was stripped overnight and they had the gaul to continue to chomp away while I stood there!  They are huge green worms............yuch!

Yesterday  I finally got around to making my baked tortilla chips and they are great! Today I hope to get the mango salsa made.  The mangoes weren't quite ripe yet.

I got more weeding and trimming done outside but when I went to Wally World there was no more mulch and they said they would not be getting anymore in this year!  So now I have to drive all the way to Mountain Home to get it.  At least I can get the kind I prefer which is the Scotts that doesn't bleach out in the sun.  It's worth a little extra to have it look nice longer.
I had some adventures working in the yard.  I go out early while it is cool but it's also very wet so my feet get soaked plus it seems that the animals have the same idea.  I ran into 2 copperhead snakes but little was a baby and one was a juvenile...I just don't want to run into "mama"!  The juvenile tried to go in my garage so I raked it down the driveway as much as I could before it went off in the grass.  I have never seen a full grown copperhead in my yard and I hope I never do!  I have seen one killed on the road and they are big!  It was only a block away so I know they are around here.  I went back to my trimming and raking and I spotted something in the drain that goes underground to drain water from the gutter away from the house.  It was yellow so I thought some plastic something or other had fallen in the drain.  I went to grab it and it moved....Whoa Nellie.....I had to back up and figure out what the heck it looked like maybe another snake but then I realized it was the back end of a turtle!  It had fallen headfirst into the drain and was stuck!  The poor thing!  I put my gloves on and got her out and then she wanted to go in the garage!  What's up with my garage?  I picked her up and took her across the street and headed her in the direction of the lake which is where I'm sure she came from.  They come over here and bury their eggs and then go back.  I hate to tell them but the armadillos dig them up and eat them.  So, that is my 'brush with nature' this week.  I hope that's the end of it!  I love nature and animals but the poisonous snakes and spiders around here I can do without and the poison ivy, oak, etc.
I've kept up with my daily cross stitching for the 'days' and tomorrow Jolly July starts....31 days of ornaments!   I have all the patterns but I may need some supplies.  I'll be working on that today.
Next week starts YOP 2019-2020!!!  So exciting!  I love planning!  I had started but when the monitor went out I could not access Ravelry or even my patterns that I have on my pc.  I will be doing much of that today also and of course, this coming week.
Oh, on top of that they ran the fiber optic to my house and in 7-10 days they will be coming to install it inside and hook up my router and t.v. to it.  I'm looking forward to that!
I think Annie has finally realized that Nitty is not coming back and my happiest family member has been "down in the mouth" all week.  She's eating and drinking and going out and her nose is cold and wet but she is not herself and it breaks my heart that she doesn't understand.....or maybe she does.  Yes, we are still missing Nitty and every time I think of her the eyes start watering again.  She will always be loved and always be missed.
I just want to thank all of you for letting me be part of a great YOP group and year.  You are all such an inspiration to me and I always look forward to your posts.  Here's to another great year ahead!
Happy Trails!!!

  1. I love you’ve themed each collage for the month. Was spiced pumpkin one of yours, I don’t see it? Anyhoo, you’ve a great collection of finished objects to be proud of. I love the winter ice skater. I don’t like the idea of copperhead snakes...or any snakes actually. Luckily we only have one poisonous snake in Scotland and they are shy phew!

  2. Yes, Pumpkin Spice I did...and you're's not in there! And it was one of my finest achievements! LOL!

  3. Ah Sam, you are a prized member of the tribe! It wouldn't be the same without you.
I love all your finishes and achievements - and I always love to catch up with your week. This week sounds very exciting with all the wildlife and your garage sounds very enticing!

  4. Dearest Sam, Snakes are not allowed near me. The ones we have here are rattlers and I have no desire to make the acquaintance of one. We also have black widows and brown recluse spiders that are not my friends either. I will accept the occasional gecko or cricket that ends up in my house but that is where I draw the line.

It was so fun to watch you and your crafting this year. You have really turned into quite the accomplished cross stitcher. I now you think you are slow at it but look at all the items you completed in that area! You have inspired me to join the Crochet CAL group and I am thankful. What a great group and so much inspiration there too.

I pray Annie will learn to enjoy being top dog now. It is so hard on them when the loose one of their pack. Plus, I am sure she feels your grief too and is responding to that also. When my Luna went into depression after loosing her buddy, I figured getting another pal would be great for her. NOPE! She still hasn't forgiven me for that one LOL. But he has ingrained his way into our hearts and she has learned to tolerate his needy ways.

I am looking forward to seeing what all you have planned for year 9. You always have such amazing ideas. Will you be adding gardening to your list this coming year? You do so much of it and I consider it a great craft to be able to put food on your table from your yard.

    1. The group you interested me in is Our Happy CAL Place!

  5. I love how you collaged (is that a word) your projects by the month. Very clever. I am still shaking about the whole copperhead snake thing. Ack!!! I giggled about what might be in your garage that is so tempting to those critters. Well done on rescuing the turtle. Major karma points there. I am looking forward to all your adventures in Year Nine. Onward!

  6. I love your monthly collages. I was just thinking today I might start doing something like that on my blog and then just collect them all together at the end of a year. I'd like to figure out something that is easier than scrambling to put the projects together into collections at the end of a 12-month period. Really, though, it's fun to see how everyone does theirs a little different. So maybe I need to think of something else... ;^) Yikes! Copperheads! But funny that the turtle wanted to get into your garage. I didn't imagine that you have so many interesting critters where you are. Armadillos are kind of exotic to me. I hope you have a great week. I'm looking forward to experiencing a new year of crafting with you, Sam.

  7. Happy Sunday Sam! I truly enjoyed looking at every project you showed us in your wrap up. Isn't it amazing how much we actually get done? Sometimes it feels that nothing is getting finished and then when you look back like this, you realize just how much you actually finished. Your things are beautiful.
You have indeed had some brushes with nature this week. Poison Ivy is one reason moving back to the midwest scares me a bit. We don't seem to have it much out here. I'm am terribly allergic to it and had to get shots weekly as a child when we lived in Iowa. I would actually get blisters in my eyes from it. All it had to do was blow in my direction in the wind and I would blister all over. Didn't even have to touch it.
And don't get me started on snakes. You are one brave, brave woman my dear. I detest snakes. Even the "friendly" garter snakes of my childhood. :-)
I'm so sorry that Annie is now mourning Nitty too. I know it's so hard for them. We're trying to deal with losing sweet Frannie last week too. Although she had only lived with us a year, we had known her all of her life and I was "Grandma" to her. She was my baby for the past year, always on my lap and slept next to my head with her paws on my face. I miss her terribly and it's only been three days. They leave such a huge hole in our hearts. You are in my prayers my friend.

  8. Sam that is quite the adventurous week you've had and the YOP year just wouldn't be the same without you. You've had a wonderfully creative year and I love the mixture of projects and crafts...those pickle dishes had me guessing all year and I think they may be my favourite things, specially when I saw the finished plan for them! As always I love seeing the stitching and I'm excited to see what you have in store for us for the next YOP year.

  9. Nice wrap up of your projects! Poor Annie I am certain she knows...animals are so accepting of loss. You were much kinder to those sssnakes than I would have been. They could stay out of your yard! Hope you are having a good week...I know you are still missing Nitty...seems to be a season of losses for so many. :(

  10. Sam! What afun crafty year you had, and I love your collages. I will have to look in to that program for my wrap up post next year. I am determined I will make it the whole year, back with you all!

I am so very sorry about Nitty -- I read your post about her and I sat here and cried for you. I know it has to be such a loss. Annie of course feels the pain and grief too, but she will come along in time, I am sure.

And your snakes? Yowza! I would have had a heart attack. I don't like nature to be that exciting. :)

I look forward to seeing what you have planned for this coming year---
