This picture was always in the Chicago Tribune when I was growing up. There might have been one for every season or there were more of Fall....I can't remember but I loved them.
Not sure where I picked this poem up but it is by George Cooper and describes Fall perfectly.
The last 2 days I have been outdoors mostly.....65 and sunny and I couldn't be happier! Nitty either.....we both wait for this all year. I have mowed but not sure if it is for the last time or not. I burned a bunch of old paperwork that either needed shredding or burning.....burning was faster.
I moved planters and cut some weeds and then I sat in the sun and read......heaven!
I know I showed you my decorations for Fall but now the Halloween decorations are out.....
I have my ceramic lit up Jack O'lantern in the front window and the ghosts are swinging from the trees. I also got in on some sales at the local market, got my flu shot for those 65 and Plus and I took my car in to get an estimate on fixing the blower. Bobby's (my mechanic) wife has had MS and I asked him how she was and he said she had died last month! I was in shock...she was only 61! I felt so bad and we talked for awhile. I know he misses her terribly. I think he felt better talking about it. He is such an honest and kind person. There are quite a few people on my prayer list this week.
I picked up prescriptions, went to the library and this afternoon I made jar salads which I dearly love.
I've been perusing Susan Branch's Autumn book and also Robin Mather's The Feast Nearby which I almost always reread at this time of year. It is divided into seasons and so tomorrow I am making her apple cider braised pork loin roast...I can't wait! It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I didn't want to waste today being indoors cooking so I will make it tomorrow instead. I'll just have some canned organic soup tonight with one of the jar salads. Fresh crisp air and cool nights are making me hungry and sleeping like I'm going into hibernation....maybe I am lol!
I hope you are enjoying this time of year as much as I am.
Happy Trails!!!

ReplyDeleteI also think that poem is very fitting for fall. We have had gorgeous days in the 60s all this week and I am enjoying every one of them. I’m so sorry to hear about your friend Bobby’s wife. I will add him to my prayer list also. You sound very content in this post. I think this time of year is the coziest time. Enjoy your day today. Blessings, Betsy
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me, Sam. You always do, but this post inspires me to not let this beautiful weather slip by without some intentional enjoyment of it. Thank you! Loved the poem. I'm spending some time with my elderly friend tomorrow, and I think I'll share it with her and ger some discussion going on favorite fall memories. 🍁🍂🌻
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy! Good to hear Nitty enjoyed the weather! :)
ReplyDeleteOur weather is getting more bearable but still pretty warm during the day. 88 F right now at 5:30 p.m. as the sun is setting. 65-70 F is just perfect to me. So sad to hear about your mechanic's wife. I'm sure he was touched by you remembering to ask about her. Your Halloween decor looks super cute. I've not gotten anything Fallish or Haloweenish out so far. :/ Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Sam :)))
ReplyDeleteOur weather is getting cold now. It's definitely autumn with a sprinkling of winter here and there lol! I love this weather so much.
