Blogmas Day #20

Well, It wasn't real Christmasy here today as I took a nice hot bath with my new heating element in my hot water heater and I washed my hair. I cleaned up the house and got a few bills out to the mailbox and cleaned the litter boxes.   But I did work on my Cozy Memories Blanket and was almost done with a navy square when I ran out of yarn so I ripped it out and grabbed another color and started it again.   Instead of the navy I am using that green yarn..........I love this blanket as I can pick it up and just start knitting....no fuss, no muss!
I did sit down this afternoon and work on some little gifts for my cat girls and one for my cat grandson...........
They're little catnip mice that you crochet and I think I got the pattern on Ravelry.  It was free, I know that, and it is called the Easy Peasy Catnip Mouse.  You crochet most of it and then fill it with fiberfill, a bell and some catnip and then more fiberfil.  Unfortunately,  I had no bells but I did have the catnip and that's the most important thing....to my cats anyway.  I'm almost done and will finish them tonight.  I'll show you a better picture when they're finished.  Then there's the annual ornaments for 2017!  Oh my!
Today is also menu and grocery list for the holidays and although the rain never showed up now they are predicting ice and snow for the 26th and 27th so I had better ensure the larders are full!  Tomorrow is the last trip to the grocery store for 2017....hopefully!  I definitely can't forget the eggnog either!  Do you have any special foods or drinks during the holidays that you always fix?  We usually had snacks and hor' deurves on Christmas Eve because I was cooking for the next day and still wrapping presents after the kids went to bed!
Here's a bit of Christmas that just came my way..........my grandson Uriah just called me to remind me to logon to the Santa Tracker on Christmas Eve.  He calls me and we spend time tracking Santa online.  That guy covers a lot of ground on Christmas Eve!
Oh, I almost forgot...........I cast on for my 21 color slouch hat kit that I got last year..........it called for a cable cast on which I had never done.  It was slow going but I got it cast on!
 Happy Trails!!!

  1. It's always a good to get stocked up just before the holiday and I know you'll have lots of things to work on. I saw that you had cold weather coming and possibly snow in Northern AR! Holiday hugs!

  2. Cable cast on? Sounds frightening to me lol...I don't know why I'm so insecure about knitting new stitches, I just need a good You Tube video! I love no fuss no muss and easy peasy!!! :) Those cat toys are fun! We always try to get the cats toys but they prefer the bows from the presents or the door stops which we find in odd places in the basement all the time, silly cats!

I LOVE egg nog. This year I'm going to try to make my own. When we decorated the tree, we had the store bought one that is so delicious, but I will try on Christmas Eve to make it. There is always plenty of white and red wine...brandy and a little bubbly for New Year's. This year I'm going to make a lemony sweet bubbly cocktail, I hope it works out!

    1. I heat up the store bought eggnog and add spiced rum. My Dad used to make Brandy Alexanders on Christmas which I also love but I'm not going to buy the ingredients as I already have the spiced rum. Thanks for reminding me of the bubbly for New Years Eve! Also, does your lemony drink involve Preseco(?)..I've heard of that and have wanted to make a cocktail using it...it is lemony. My Dad made homemade eggnog one year with raw eggs....not for me. I think it was some Italian recipe. No raw eggs for me! LOL! Good luck and I hope yours turns out. I still want to make stockings for the girls too....this is exactly why I think Christmas should be all year long! I need that much time to prepare! LOL!

  3. Yea!!!!! Another eggnog lover. Your day sounds quite lovely. Get that larder filled so you don't need to go out in inclement weather.

I have never done the cable cast on. Sounds daunting. So glad you managed to get it done.

    1. It's really not hard just slow for me but I could never have done it without You Tube! Yes, it's not good for me but I make an exception on Christmas and I add a little spiced rum and heat it up with a bit of fresh ground nutmeg on top! Yummo!

  4. I see I am in good company with having never tried the cable cast on. I may have to look that up and try to learn something new! The catnip mice look like they’re going to be just the thing for your kitties. I know the cat we used to have loved anything with catnip in it. We’re supposed to have very, very cold weather coming so I plan to make one more run to the grocery store on Friday morning and hopefully I’ll be done for the year too. Stay warm and safe my friend.
    Blessings, Betsy

  5. We love to make hot cranberry punch. It's a family tradition. You reminded me I need to buy organic juice to make it too.

  6. I don't like eggnog...at all. Hot chocolate is more my style!
Herring is a usual treat during the holidays...I will buy some on Saturday when I do the last of the food shopping. I also like a bit of champagne in my Orange Juice for brunch:)
