YOP Week #19

I think this week was our 'peak' colors her in North Central Arkansas............
I meant to drive to Mountain Home just to see the colors....and do a little shopping while I was there but..........I got busy here at home..........
It's been warm and windy and today is cloudy and we're supposed to have 'developing' thunderstorms later today.....we'll see....they never get it right for our area but it's beautiful and Mother Nature is 'cleaning house'.
Is there a mental state that one falls prey to when  you find yourself casting on a new project when you have all kinds of WIP's and Christmas gifts to be making?  It's so crazy!  But yes, I cast on a new project but I did not buy any new yarn and truth be told I am loving every minute of this project!  It is the Happy Go Lucky shawlette pattern by Fiber Flux and is a free pattern on Ravelry plus there is a You Tube video tutorial and it is very good.   I am using Lion Brand Mandala in the Chimera colorway using a G 4.0 mm hook.  I am so enjoying this yarn, pattern and project.  I think everyone should try it!
This is how much yarn I have left....I'll have to go back and see if she states how much yarn to leave for the border.....not sure..........is there any way to calculate yardage for a border?
The sweater is zooming along and again, a very enjoyable project so far...easy to pick up and knit a round just like the shawlette.
I finally got a few limbs sewn on the giraffe.....I have got to finish this thing but I really dislike the hand sewing part!
See the Frosted Pumpkin cross  stitch underneath the giraffe?  I got it pressed and went to frame it and the glass broke in the frame then I discovered I have to cut a piece of cardboard to fit the frame and stitch the cross stitch to it....so..........there it sits....I can't find a piece of card board big enough.  I may have to buy some poster board.....geesh!  But it will be ready for next year....I hope!
My Cozy Memories Blanket is getting some regular love lately and again...a favorite project to knit on.  I did 4 squares last week and only 1 this week..........yes, I'm a slacker..........
I bought this magazine last week and I highly recommend it.  I got it at Walmart and it comes out 4 times a year, I think.  It was $7 not the usual $11-16 for a specialty magazine.  This magazine is chock full of patterns that you will love!  There are gifts for everyone and a darling pattern for a one button cardigan that I definitely will be making.  It is specifically for gifts for everyone and they range from beginner to intermediate.  I was amazed at the value and I may even subscribe if all their issues are this good.  I don't buy or subscribe to any knitting magazines but I may have to make an exception for this one!
That's all for this week.  I missed last week as I was really, really tired and I was yesterday again.  I think it's the change of seasons and temperatures that go from 30-80 in one day!
I hope you are all well and crafting away.
For podcasts I have caught up with Crochet Cupcake.  BTW, they are from Puerto Rico and are doing fine...partly because they live is a solar home but the islands all still need much help.  I'm caught up with Stitched in Sweden so now it is on to The Little Tailoress.
Happy Trails!

  1. Hi Sam :)) The colours of fall are beautiful. Heck, every season has their beauty, but in fall, the trees are at their best! :) Nice photos! Your shawl colours are really pretty, and look at that sweater! I want to see you modelling it when it's done! :) Your current giraffe reminds me of humpty dumpty on the wall lol, you're pretty talented to be doing all these different projects! Oh that's too bad about the pumpkin!!! But you're right, it'll be all ready for next year!! :)

I have nothing to show for again this week, so I think I may be abandoning the group! I wasn't expecting a full fur family this year, that's for sure, but I'll still try to do a little knitting when I have some moments! :)

    1. Don't worry about the group. I like it because I make all the gifts for the grands for Christmas and Birthdays plus for me. Part of my 'self-sufficient' plans. You are an animal caretaker and a cheese maker and so much more! I especially love the 'mindless' crafting like the shawl and cozy memories blanket as that is my reward after a long day....in bed, watching podcasts and doing mindless handwork! LOL!

  3. I miss fall colors. We don't get that in the valley but if we drive an hour we can some some beautiful color. As for your pumpkin. why not get a cross stitch sticky board and attach it to that. You can cut them to any size and they are so easy to use. They come in regular or puffy depending on the look you want. Very pretty Shawlette. I wonder if you could use 2 skeins of the mandala yarn to make it bigger or if the colors would start to stop mid row. I really like the yarn you are using for your sweater. It will go with everything. I too hate the hand sewing on projects but it is so satisfying when completed. Shoot, I was at Wally World today. I am going to go back tomorrow and look for that magazine. It sounds wonderful. Have a great week my friend.

    1. Thank you for the 'sticky board' idea....I had never heard of that....I am so behind in what's 'out there'! I am going to order another skein of the Mandala as the 'shawlette' is not big enough with just one skein. You have a great week too!

  4. My goodness you have been busy and your partly put together giraffe made me laugh. I hate the hand sewing of toys too, but they look so darn cute when they are done! And stop enabling me with more knitting magazines....it does look tempting. Your all colour pics are beautiful. Thank you for sharing them.

    1. I was going to 'craft until Christmas' but now I am having company for Thanksgiving which I love but hadn't planned on it so I better speed up on the crafting! LOL! I never thought of myself as an enabler but now that you mention it.....

  5. My favorite cowl pattern is one by Fiber Flux. And just finished a scarf from one of her patterns. Your shawl looks lovely and easy. I started a granny shawl and a granny cocoon shrug some time back but haven't finished either and can't remember where I got the patterns from either. :/ Like you, I'm not one for sewing parts together. I found a teddy bear pattern that is crocheted as one piece and then you just sew around the edge to close up. That's my kind of pattern. :)

    1. I will have to look for her other patterns as this granny shawlette is a keeper! The teddy bear sounds like a great project in one piece!

  6. I love projects where the knitting or crocheting is relatively mindless. My biggest dislike is weaving in all the ends!

    1. Leigh, That's what's nice about those 'cakes' of yarn....they change colors so there are only the beginning and ending to weave in....2 end total unless you attach another skein but still. You would enjoy those. There are Caron Cakes, Lion Brand Mandala's and Hobby Lobby has one called Swirls, I think.

  9. My goodness you have been busy this week. That shawl is very pretty and sometimes you just need a break from all the things you “should” be doing. Ha! The sweater is coming right along too and your headless giraffe looks great. :-) My least favorite part of any project is the hand sewing and the weaving in of yarn ends. I have to be out and about later this morning and I may stop at Hobby Lobby and see if I can find that magazine. Pray for me as it’s my first time driving on snowy roads this season. Yikes! Have a lovely day my friend.
    Blessings, Betsy

    1. Oh my! Snowy roads? I hunker down even here in the winter. We get black ice sometimes and I ma even ordering groceries online now. I love snow but not driving in traffic with it. I hope you still have those great tires on your car! Take care! I didn't know HL had magazines?

  10. There is a mental state, and that is 'your prerogative'. If it makes you happy then go for it - I love the shawl, just wish I could crochet properly!
