Productive day but Spring is ramping up with some storms!

My fabric came today!  Woo Hoo!  Here it is!  I can't wait to start the QAL (quilt along ) over on Brooklyn Knitfolk's Ravelry group.....it's for beginners and first time quilters so if you've ever "hankered" to make a quilt, here's your chance!
I have never heard of Boundless fabric but it had great customer reviews on Craftsy and get this.....inside my package they sent me a 40% off coupon code on my next order of Boundless fabric....oh yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about!
I got busy and worked on my dining room which had really turned into a big mess my sewing room.  But now I am moving it to the middle bedroom which will be my sewing/craft room.  This picture is AFTER I organized some things....lol!  There's a lot of work ahead of me on this project!  Also, getting ready for the Spring City-wide Garage Sale.  I need to call City Hall and see when it is....I missed the one in the Fall.  My theory is to divide and conquer while at the same time grouping like items together.....is that possible?
This is a very old  hand painted Chinese desk that belonged to my grandparent-in-laws...is there such a word?  Anyway, my ex gave it to me for a wedding present.  The chair did not come with it.  There's a drawer and the doors open in the middle and there is a writing surface that comes down and little cubby holes for letters and there's a light inside too.  It's like having your own little post office!
I made lemon bars this afternoon as my sweet tooth was starting to get to me...........I'm cutting back on the sugar in these old recipes though and I added twice the lemon rind and twice the lemon juice...it just can't be too lemony for me! LOL!
See the stainless steel cannister and the old hand sifter?  The cannister belonged to my Mother and I remember it when I was little.  I'm sure there was a whole set at one time and how I ended up with this one is beyond me.  I've had it since my children were little......I'm sure it dates back to the 50's.
I think my daughter got me the sifter in an antique store and it's great for sifting powdered sugar onto things...........you just shake it back and forth and that little thing inside goes back and forth....I have to be careful though as I can get a little carried away and the powdered sugar ends up all over!
I knitted on my shawl during my 'work breaks' but thought I had dropped a stitch twice and so I got my crochet hook out and picked them up only to discover at the end of the row I had 2 extra stitches!  Tomorrow I will try and tink back but it really looked like a ladder stitch was laying there just as if  I had dropped a stitch....I have no idea how I do these things!
Here's the error of my ways!  Not sure you can see it but it's there.....and I was making such good progress too....oh well, I will attack it tomorrow when I am fresh out of the box!  If anyone has any hints for how I do these things please let me know!  Would that happen if I went under the entire knit stitch instead of just the front loop?  Maybe I need glasses?
I'd better go eat supper as we are under a tornado watch and who knows if we'll loose power.  So far it's quiet but they predict quite a wild night and last night it hailed and there was quite the wind and lightening and thunder.  It didn't last too long and there were no big warnings but when they say tornado I get the weather radio out and it is all charged up and already on!  I hope you are safe and cozy where ever you are tonight!
Happy Trails!

  1. Goodness! You're having tornadoes and we're having snow! I watched Brooklyn Knitfolk yesterday while she was getting her material ready in her bathtub. Even though I'm not joining in the QAL, I'm still enjoying the videos and watching the process. Your fabric looks very cute. I have a very similar sifter that belong to my grandmother. I love using it.

You will be happy to know that I had my second physical therapy session this morning. After that I went to the mall and walked around the big circle once. I have almost 5000 steps today! He really worked me over good today. I'm pretty sore and he says I also have arthritis in my spine. But it feels good to be up and doing things again. Now he tells me I need to sit for the rest of the day and just do my exercises and still no lifting for another five weeks. I'm allowed to take one walk a day around the mall. We have so much snow I can't walk outside. I am so itching to get busy cleaning closets and such. But I will do as I'm told. Stay safe tonight.
    Blessings always,
    Betsy

    1. I AM happy to hear that! Good for you! I just got power back and it's noon! It went off even before the storms arrived last night...it must have been where the main station was as it took them a long time....over 12 hours to get it back on. The storm didn't seem that bad but when I got up this morning my old metal heavy lawn chairs were knocked over and down the driveway! Whoa Nellie! The sun is shining and it's cooler. Today is 61 while yesterday was 77. They have more alerts out for this afternoon now....Spring in the Ozarks! I should make a bedroom down in the basement because I don't get much sleep with the weather radio going off every 2 hours. Last night it went off for a tornado watch and lake wind advisory which had been an all day alert and it woke me up. I am dragging today but still trudging along with the dining room albeit in slow motion! LOL! I'm so happy for you Betsy! I was really praying for your recovery and I will continue to. Now you can sit and knit as your reward for a job well done!

    1. It was my wedding gift so he couldn't very well expect it back. The lemon bars were really tasty! I had one for breakfast as there was no power here until just a few minutes ago.

    1. They are good especially with less sugar and more lemon! We had 70 mph winds here and no power until noon today...almost 12 hours but thank goodness it is not cold here and not too hot yet either.

  5. I love new fabric and seeing it altogether is nice. Makes you want to get started. I went to the youtube to check on the quilting group. I really should do it another time though. But it was tempting! Hugs!

  6. There are so many wonderful projects out there in the WWW that it is hard to pick just a few but I need a new quilt for my bed. I try to go with needs and not wants as the wants are endless! LOL!

  7. Hi Sam :) I hope you were safe with the tornado watch! That is scary and I'm very grateful to not have to think about that kind of weather in my area. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the desk! You just don't find that kind of wonderful good quality furniture anymore. My grandparents each had one, not Chinese themed though. But I do remember the little cubby holes and the writing area. My grandfather's had a built in ink thingy...not sure what they're called! Oh gosh your lemon treats...I love lemon bars, I hope my Meyers turn yella this summer :) The sifter and canister are beautiful. Again, can't find that kind of thing these days. I was just complaining to my bf about my flour situation. I buy huge bags of flour and right now have resorted to distributing them into large freezer bags, shudder...I hate it. I need a good BIG old canister for my flour. I'm adding it to my flea market list for the spring.
