Groceries, yarn and peonies!!!

I went and did my grocery "pickup" at Walmart but I was the only one and I had to go knock on the door because no one saw me and I can't text them as I don't have a cell phone.  They came out and I got my groceries and left.  It took me all morning to unload to my garage staging area take everything out of the bags in the garage, then bring them a little bit at a time into the kitchen and "disinfect" with a rag that is very soapy with liquid detergent.  Repeat that about 45 times and I was exhausted!  I did tea dye some fabric but discovered I do not care for the "baked" look.  I think I will skip that part.  That is what causes the dark parts.
My Iris got beaten down with all the rain.  Are Iris the same as gladiola?
I did bring my peonies in though to enjoy the scent!
The honeysuckle is blooming............
and I have a bunch of berries of some kind all over the back of my property!  I am thrilled!
I found them last year but then I was gone so I never got any.  Every flower is a berry so I should have quite a few if the birds don't beat me to it! LOL!
I also got a treasure in the mail today!  Harry Potter mini-skeins from Norah George in England!  I want to make the Habitation shawl by Helen Stewart.  It will take more than this but it's a start!  I'm just waiting for a size 6 circular with a 40" cable.
For Day #13 of Stitch Maynia I'm doing May from the Year of Celebrations.............
I'm going to go put my feet up and relax......I'm tuckered out!
Happy Trails!!!

  1. Whew! I'm tired just reading about all of your productivity today. I love love love peonies but sadly, we cannot grow them in southeast Florida and they are expensive at the stores who do carry them. That yarn is beautiful. I look forward to seeing your shawl.

    1. I misspoke....it's not a shawl it's a throw. I wish I could send you the peony smell in a letter!

  2. I pick up my Walmart order tomorrow morning at 9:00. I dread it because it's so much work. First I set up a table in the garage to put the "clean" groceries on. I disinfect with Clorox wipes anything that has to go into the refrigerator or freezer, (except veggies and fruit). Everything else sits on the table in the garage for at least 3 days without touching it. If it has to be used then it gets disinfected first. All fruits and veggies are washed.
I saw that Norah George yarn and almost splurged for it. The colors are beautiful. Dennis bought me a set of five Helen Stewart shawl patterns for Mother's Day two years ago. I've made them all and love her patterns. She makes them so easy to follow with stitch counts for each row. You can easily know exactly where you make a mistake, (if you do.)
    Have a great afternoon Sam!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

    1. I don't have any disinfectant wipes and I can't get any so I use soap and water. Yes, it is very tiring and takes up most of the day but we aren't sick and we have food to eat....better off than most in the world! I misspoke about the 'shawl'...it is a throw and yes I love her patterns! I am a list person and love checking things off!

  3. Iris and gladiolas are different plants. Ask Google for images. Glads don't bloom for a while yet.

  4. That is a lot of work for groceries. We haven't ever done that but maybe because we go into the store. We do wash all fruits and veggies though.

Your new yarn is so pretty. It will make a gorgeous shawl.

Peonies are so pretty. My mom grew them in Kansas. I remember all the ants on them to help them open. They do smell wonderful.

    1. It's funny....there are no ants on the ones down here but I remember all the ants on the ones up North. Another question to ask Google! LOL! I misspoke too...it's going to be a throw not a shawl.

  6. We got a grocery order today too. And yes all the disinfecting and wiping and putting away is stressful. I love all your flower pictures and those Harry Potter mini skeins are wonderful. You deserve a nice cuppa tea and putting your feet up for certain.

  8. We have decided to get groceries once a month. Luckily instacart will deliver right to the front porch which saves getting them out of the car. We actually just wipe them in on the kitchen counter, then wipe the counter. I have had to meal plan to make sure we have enough. I think I overdid and we will be able to go longer than a month for our next order! It is a big job! But I am so grateful I don't have to go into stores. Masks are not mandatory in our state and no one seems to wear them.

    1. I eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables so 2 weeks is about as long as I can go. Nothing is required down here either but Walmart requires their employees to wear masks and I wear one. I only go 2 places...Walmart and my pharmacy which is also closed except for the drive-up. Walmart has 7-8 pickup for people at risk and that's me! Old and 2 auto-immune diseases....so far so good! Stay well!

  9. You have Iris! Glads are a bulb that must be lifted and stored and planted again in the spring after frost they bloom in August...or maybe for you July:)
I know groceries are a pain now a days. :(

    1. Okay, I remember them now...I just went and looked. Plus, I spelled them wrong...it's gladiolus. That's my learning something new for today! Thank you!

  11. One of the best things about May is the sweet smell of honeysuckle. The hummingbirds are in the thickets now, probably to raise their first brood.
