YOP Week #22

We're almost 1/2 way through this Year of Projects!  Whoa Nellie!  Plus, it's Christmas now and since I didn't get started on my Christmas making in July I am way behind!  Plus, my daughter and I do the 12 days of Christmas Advent calendar for each other and I need to hit the stores tomorrow!  Usually I make everything but not this year and we start opening on the 12th so I had best bust a move!
I did get a finish accomplished though!  The first of the 2019 Annual Collectible (tee hee) Christmas Ornaments.............too cute!  I love him but the instructions said to use 4 strands of floss for this 10 count Aida....well....see below his face....that is 4 strands and I didn't care for the look so I used all 6 strands and I like it better but I was not going to rip it out...if I have time I will make 4 which will be one for me and that way I will keep this one and send the other 3 to the grands..  The 10 count fabric is very soft and not stiff like Aida can be.  Plus, it is fast not having to split strands at all and the Floss Away  bags are great!      Lori Holt, the designer, has a video tutorial on You Tube on how to make little stuffed pillows and make the cross stitch piece part of an envelope pillow case.  I will be doing that for these ornaments.
I started on the next one..........they are quick to work up.....I did the one above in 1 day..........just on breaks..........okay....so I took a lot of breaks and there were football games............
The pattern is from Lori Holt.............I got it because there were multiple ornaments in one pattern and I thought I would make different ones but then I decided I would make them all the same and that way I wouldn't get confused next year as to who got what.  Oh, there are buttons too!  I forgot to order them!
I chose my Christmas xs pattern.......the free Chicken Joy pattern from The Real Housewives of Cross Stitch....Priscilla and Chelsea.  I was going to use some fabric I had until I realized it was cream and there was a white chicken and snow which would not show up.  I thought I would dye some fabric but then a little voice said...."are you nuts?" Just order some and be done with it!  You see what I have to deal with?  My evil twin who gets me in more trouble than you can imagine and makes a lot of work for me!  So, I ordered a mint green piece of fabric for it.
I still need to order yarn for my Christmas Eve sock cast on.
I did work on the Blaithin CAL a tiny bit but not enough worth mentioning or showing..........I did work on my xs days though...........
Santa Sunday from last Sunday.........this pattern was gifted to me probably from Joanie.  I ran out of the red floss on this one too so I had to order along with the Stars And Stripes xs that I ran out of floss on.  Both were fancy floss.......Ribbon Red and Cherry Cobbler from Classic Colorworks.
then there was Monthly Monday..............

Witchy Wednesday...........
and Fall Friday.............

That about does it for this week and now for your Christmas Tidbits for today.............I laughed out loud at this one.....so true!

and these recipes won't help either but it's only Christmas once a year!  These recipes can be found on Taste of Home website..........
I thought this was a great idea especially for those people who have an abundance of ornaments to display......yes, Connie, I'm talking to you! LOL!
That's all for today folks......be sure and stop by the other YOPers and see what they've been up to this past week.
Happy Trails!!!

  1. That jar with the ornaments in it is adorable. You find the greatest ideas. Your saying made me laugh too. This must be why the fattening holidays are at the end of the year so in the new year you can make that resolution to get rid of those extra pounds. Or at least say you will try to. I agree about the 6 strands on 10 count. It makes the piece much richer looking. Good choice.

    1. My problem is I always have my lab work for cholesterol during the holidays when I eat the good stuff! I've complained to him about it but insurance says yearly regardless of when it falls! LOL!

  2. So much eye candy here! I think that Chicken Joy cross stitch is going to be fun to stitch, and fun for us to see when you're done. And I love that old jar with the vintage ornaments, too! I don't think we'll be getting our Christmas decorations down from the attic this year, but some simple ideas like this might make some appearances over the coming weeks.

    1. I haven't done any decorating yet but it's "on the list"....I too like that jar but I gave most of my ornaments to the kids so I can't remember what I have left.

  3. You've reminded me how much I used to love doing cross stitch. Cute projects.

    1. I used to do those huge ones ...full coverage and finished little of them but now I do these with no outlining or fancy stitches and they go pretty fast!

  4. I like the jar of ornaments! It would keep them safe from my grandchildren.

  5. You are putting thoughts into my head...thoughts about going back to work on a couple of unfinished samplers. I gave another one to my daughter to finish several years ago, but she said she liked it the way it was and put it on a shelf with other "old" sewing collectibles. I doubt my eyes would hold up to work on linen like I used to do. I am trying not to feel anxious about how close we already are to Christmas...but it's not working!

    1. I did Cyber Monday today and I'm almost done now...ahhh....feels good but there's still a few things to get so I can't relax too much. LOL! There's decorating yet too. It was a lot faster than making everything!

  7. That jar of ornaments is a great idea. I used to have a HUGE jar on a pedestal that I put glass ornaments in until it got broken. You have so many neat projects on the go and it will be fun to watch them progress.
I belong to Weight Watchers and was doing very well until two weeks ago. I got sick and kept at it for the first week but the last two weeks I've eaten whatever I wanted. Especially with the kids all here and special cooking. They all will be gone by tomorrow evening and then I can jump back on the wagon because we have absolutely no plans for the Christmas season besides church activities.
    Have a great Monday Sam.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. Those themes come from a group of cross stitchers and started by The Real Housewives of Cross Stitch on You Tube.

  9. Wow ambition abounds!

Want to pass a helping of it to the Central California Sierras?

I x-stitched for years. Such fun. But then got bit by the spinning/weaving bug. You do a great job!

    1. I would love to learn to spin! I knit and crochet too so spinning my own yarn would be awesome and then to have my own sheep to get the yarn from....see...there I go down another rabbit hole! I've have to visit you and see what you're spinning and weaving!

  10. I can remember the days gone by when I did counted cross stitch on everything. It wasn't done if my needle didn't embroider, candlewick, or cross stitch on it. Alas, age and poor eyesight, not to mention 6 strokes have eaten away that pleasure (OCD) inclination. Great job on your projects.

    1. I sympathize with you as I don't know what I would do if I couldn't do my handwork...I'm not a good "sitter". 6 Strokes?!? You are Wonder Woman! What do you do now that you can't do handwork? I bet you did some beautiful work. I never did candle wicking but I loved the look of it. At one time I was going blind so when I had an operation and could see better than ever I was determined to use my eyesight as much as possible. It was a miracle that I could see again because the doc said it was just to stop the damage but they couldn't repair what had been done....even he admitted it was a miracle. I am a blessed person for sure! Blessings to you too my friend!

  11. What a clever idea - the jar of ornaments. You are my cross stitch queen - so impressed - you must have the eyes of an eagle to do such fine work!! I am sure this holiday season will be sad at times but know that I and others are here for you through it all.

  12. I’m so behind catching up on posts, I have been following your midweek posts as well but for some reason missed this one. Anyhoo, I love the little Santa and all your other projects. Such fine work and such careful detail, I hope the recipients love them as much as we do.
