After this past year, I am pulling out all the stops for getting Lady Luck on my side in 2020! I went to the store and got all the "good luck" food. To be honest I have never done this before but I think maybe I should have. My whole life might have turned out differently! I went to the local grocery store and looked for fresh greens and there were none so I asked why since it is New Year's good luck food. They told me in Arkansas it is black-eyed peas, hog jowls, and cabbage with cornbread. What? Hog jowls? I have never heard of that before and I am not going there! So I had to buy canned mustard greens and I got black-eyed peas and a ham slice and bacon. I am making Kickin' Collard greens or just the mustard greens heated up, Slow Cooker Spicy Black-eyed Peas, cornbread, and the World's Best Bacon Cheese Dip. Plus some Pecan Pie Bars.....all recipes are on All Recipes! LOL! Okay, so the bacon cheese dip and the pecan pie bars are not for good luck they're just for good eatin'!

Wow! That sounds like a lot of good eatin' food! I'll be here alone for New Years Eve since Dennis will be in Omaha. I'm not planning anything except to watch the ball drop in New York City.

Look at the bright side...it's better than ice! LOL! I couldn't stay up that late if I wanted to. I 'll watch a movie early and munch on my snacks. I'm usually lights out between 8 or 9...sometimes even 7:30! LOL! But I like getting up early. Happy New Year!

When we lived in TX it was black eyed peas with ham hocks and greens for luck. Here in Arizona it is tamales. Hog jowls never were invited into my house either. Happy 2020
ReplyDeleteOh, I like your tradition as I love tamales! When I was little my Mom used to buy them in a jar. She spent time in New Mexico and loved the food but back in those days there was little variety of food from different ethic groups except Chinese. I do remember we would get Chinese food occasionally and my Mom would make chopsuey.
DeleteMy friends use a simple milk frother (about $15) and have great coffee drinks. It's not high tech, but works very well and easy to clean. Wishing you a very happy and healthy new year!

DeleteNew Year's food traditions are something that never happened for me. I suppose because I only like black-eyed peas so-so. Then we're stuck with a pot of leftovers. I do like the idea of the tamales! Another tamale fan here (actually, anything Mexican, Texican, or in-between).

ReplyDeleteGood luck food! Never heard of it. A long time ago I heard the meat you eat on New Years Day will set the tone for your year. I have some steak to fry in my cast iron skillet! Anyways enjoy all your snacks! We just had some licorice...and I might get out the chip dip:)
