YOP Week #28

My word for the year..FINISH....is keeping me mindful and on task.  I hope it lasts all year!  It is meant for all areas of my life not just YOP but it's helping there too.  I finished the 2017 Collectible Ornaments!  Yay!  There are actually 4 but mine is hanging on the tree.  This is a free pattern on Ravelry by Susan B. Andserson and it was a pleasure to knit.
I'm working away on the wash cloth for my friend and I just finished row 50 so only 21 more to go....so far so good...........I hope you can see the X's and O's now and I learned a new technique...a YO (yarn over) which creates a hole and adds a stitch.  There's a K2T (knit 2 together) right before it so the stitch count remains the same.
The socks have gotten some love but not a lot...........I'm on round 35 of 61 on the first sock.......
and last but not least I finally started to frame my Frost on the Pumpkin cross stitch.......I thought I might have it done but that stitching takes longer than I thought plus bending over the kitchen table is a back killer so I have to take breaks....hopefully next week I will have it done to show you.
I worked on my sweater a bit but you've seen that enough times.  It's raining here but not much....just a drizzle but it's warming up!  This morning it was 19 F and now it is 36...by Wednesday it's supposed to be in the 60's!  If we're not going to have snow then what's the use of cold weather?
With all those days of freezing temps and single digits......the weeds are still alive!  They never die here!
I hope you are warm and safe and dry and enjoying your Sunday and doing a bit of crafting!
Happy Trails!!!

  1. Those little hats are so cute - I will have to check out that pattern for my advent knits. Love the sock yarn - very christmassey. Rainy here too. For days now - I liked the snow better, but at least the days are getting lighter!

    2. Yes, since the grands were born.....I joke about them being "Collectible Ornaments"....I also try to make others for Halloween etc. It depends on how much time I have but it's really a joke referring to those expensive collectible ornaments that are on the market. I like to give them something to remember me by someday when I'm not around....hopefully they will have good memories of me and laugh about Grandma Sam's HIGHLY collectible annual ornaments! LOL!

  2. FINISH is a great word to choose, and not just because it is followed closely by enjoying what you've accomplished :)

I can definitely see the Xs and Os now? It's really coming along! And did you know that by doing YOs and K2togs you are officially doing lace?! Time to plan more lacy things!

Still loving the socks - particularly now that I can see the speckled blue bits!

After being snowed in repeatedly over the last few weeks and being chased indoors by extreme cold and high winds, I am looking forward to some seasonal temperatures in the negative single digits! By the end of this season we're going to owe a small fortune to the guy who plows for us!

    1. Oh but how I could use a good blizzard and let's face it...it's not going to happen down here....ice maybe but no blizzard. That is the exact reason I bought my Tahoe when I lived on my Iowa farm....I was tired of paying for plowing! LOL! I had a long driveway so I would just gun it with the 4 wheel drive and off I'd go! Of course, the Tahoe wasn't cheap either! LOL! Lace? Me? Go figure!

  3. Several years ago (two different years) I had a word for the year (two different words). Those words are still stuck on my "bulletin board". And I still haven't quite managed to do them well. I'm so bad at follow-through on this kind of thing, but I find others' attempts inspiring.

The little Santa hat ornaments are adorable. I will say... seeing your various ornaments over recent posts makes me want to decorate again. In some fashion. We haven't had a tree in years and this year I didn't even decorate. Not one bit. I just forgot - until it felt too late. I might need to be careful that I don't get so lazy and comfortable that I forget to even celebrate (any number of things). Sigh. Your posts nudge me to be careful about that.

The XO cloth is cute! I was kind of wondering why I wasn't seeing them before. Now I do! And how cute is that little stocking stitch marker? And oh boy! Can't wait to see the finished Frost on the Pumpkin cross stitch next week.

Have a great week, Sandra. I'm looking forward to higher temps even if we'll be having rain. We may make it up to 45 degrees by next weekend. While I'm not excited about rain in January, I couldn't be more pleased than I am to say adieu to these bitter temps for a while.

    1. I understand where you're coming from because living alone and never having company on the holidays it would be very easy for me to bypass the decorating and celebrating. After all, it does take a bit of effort. But, for years I made other's holidays and events as special as I could so I figure I deserve the same. I had a friend once who said to me...."what would you do if you found an abandoned child out in the cold".....I told her I would take them home, feed them, give them a nice warm bath and tuck them into a nice warm bed.....she told me....."you need to do that for yourself". I've never forgotten her words and I try to live them each day. I've realized I am just as special as the people I love. If it gives you joy do it! If not.....find your own joyful way of celebrating.
Yes, yay to warmer temps! 60's here by Wednesday!

  6. Love those sweet little hats. :-). The washcloth is really nice too. I can see the X’s and O’s perfectly! Thanks for the sleeping advice. I try to get at least 10,000 steps in a day along with my regular housework, etc., so I don’t think it’s from lack of exercise. Oh well. Your socks are coming along well.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. You ARE getting plenty of exercise! Whoa Nellie! I wonder what is causing it....are you worrying about something? Maybe some warm milk? Meditation? Reading usually puts me to sleep but nothing too exciting! LOL! As always, thank you for your comments and blessings right back to you!

  8. Oh Sam, those hats are adorable. I really like that dishcloth too. I just might have to make a few of each of them. Your socks are coming along nicely. I am happy to see you are getting the pumpkin cross stitch framed.

I have never done a word for the year. How do you come up with your word?

    Have a great week.

  10. Yay for framing a finished cross stitch and for finishing a set of ornaments! I love your sock yarn. I like how those white stripes are speckled up with color like Christmas lights on a tree. Wow, a dish cloth that has 50+ rows. That's a good sized one. The X&O's look really good and I didn't know you are new to YO's.
