Hurtin' for Certain!

I can't believe I haven't posted for a week!  Where does the time go?  Well, I know where some of it has gone.....my RA is in full swing and everything takes me twice as long until about afternoon when I start 'loosening' up and even then it is slow going.  I also have an infection that I had to go to the doctor for and I'm on antibiotics for that thus I cannot take my RA meds.  But it's not terrible...yet.... and I don't mean to complain but rather explain that I am slow anyway much less when Arthur Itis raises his ugly head! LOL!  I have been in remission for 1 1/2 years so I've been lucky.  Monday I was in Mountain Home all day, Tuesday I played  'catch up', yesterday was Walmart and today was 'catch up' again.  I did manage to get a few things in Mountain Home while I was there but not much..........I've been wanting this liquid castile soap for awhile now for general purpose cleaning and who can argue with a lavender scent?
The only bookstore that I know of in Mountain Home has closed and along with a few other reasons, I have decided to subscribe to Amazon Prime.  Almost all my shopping is online anymore as there are just not any available shopping venues around here without driving at least over an hour.  But I was able to 'treat' myself yesterday with these treasures from Walmart.............a new supply of 'melties'.............
some new candles for that Hygge experience..............
a new magazine.............
a new pattern for cobbler aprons.............my new retirement uniform..........with pockets!  My style is the red and the gold ones..............
and fabric for each................
plus a new Pioneer Woman mug................
I also had cooking to do.............a baked vegetarian ziti casserole............ those are buffalo mozzarella 'pearls' melted on top........... and of course before making this I had to make my homemade pasta sauce.............
Then for dessert..........a recipe for Turtle Brownies from scratch from Cook's Country test kitchens.
I used to get a Duncan Hines mix for them but I am trying to not use any boxed or packaged or processed food....making almost everything from scratch is very time consuming but worth it in my mind.
With the RA 'blossoming' I may get more knitting/crafting done as the legs, feet and elbows are stiff and my back starts hurting after being on my feet awhile.
But I did manage to get out and do some more weeding and 'landscaping' this morning.  Unfortunately the deer have eaten my bean plants, hibiscus and tomatoes....not a total loss but I need to do something soon!
The more I move the better I feel in the long run but  mornings are really pitiful! LOL!  I never give in to it though....I can't or I would be a cripple.  Onward and upward and I hope you all have had a great week so far!  Hopefully, I will catch up with all of you tomorrow!
Happy Trails!
P.S.  I have also been watching all the news and hearings going on.....not sure that's a good thing but I feel the need to stay as informed as possible.  There are more tragedies than I can keep up with...prayers for all!

  1. So sorry you have been dealing with all that. I have something called trigger finger. It is when the joints in my fingers freeze up and jerk, like a trigger. I have been suffering with it in my right middle finger and it has spread (not as bad) to my right ring finger. The pains get so bad, they shoot up my arm. And last week my left ring finger has been starting to jerk. I put it off as long as I can, but I have a dr appt on Monday. They take a giant needle and puncture my palm and shoot steriods slowly while moving the needle around. It feels just like it sounds which is why I put the appointments off until I cant stand it anymore. I have reached that point. I know starting Tuesday I will be doing so much better and I hope that you are doing better soon too!!!!!!

    1. Feeling better today already as I went to the doctor yesterday and got a steroid shot but not like yours! Ouch! Mine was just in the butt and they didn't move it around....oh, that must be awful but glad it works at least!

  2. What RA drugs are you on that has to stop when on antibiotics? I take Arava and Daypro and the only drug I can not take is Ibuprofen and no; flu, pneumonia, shingle injections. If you have prednisone you can take 5 to 10 mg a day for 3 days and then stop with no issues. Gosh I wish we were neighbors. We could comoare "war" stories. I have been in remission for 4 years PTL. My morning hot shower gets my joints moving and you are correct......movement is your friend.
I love walmart melties. You will love Amazon Prime. I so enjoy getting my free books when I need something to read. Not to mention free shipping on most of our shopping items.

Love the fact you are cooking from scratch is inspiring. Keep it up.

    1. I was on Enbrel..very pricey but when I have RA, it is severe...as in bedridden if I'm not careful. I have all those injections which are fine on Enbrel. I cannot take RA meds though when I have an infection of any kind and right now I do. I've been on antibiotics for a week now and it hasn't made any inroads to healing my toe. I went yesterday and my RA doc gave me a steroid shot so today I am feeling SO much better! I'm so stiff in the morning I was afraid I wasn't going to make it to the bathroom on time! He's sending me to a wound clinic for the toe and I have to go back for more lab work. Being an 1 1/2 hours away from all of it means a tiring day and nothing gets done around 'the homestead'. I am hoping the steroids help me make up for lost time! LOL! I also have a prescription for them to pick up today. I hope the 'Cindy' storm/hurricane stays south of us as we are predicted to get heavy rains and wind and if that's the case I will have to cancel my appts. I'm not driving for 3 hours total through storms especially since I go over that huge bridge over that huge lake! LOL! I white knuckle it when the weather is nice so gusty winds and rain driving through the mountains is a definite no-no for me!
I get the items much faster through Amazon Prime too....it was taking over a week before. Is that the one free book a month you're talking about or are there more free books? I've been liking the video part too although most of what I wanted to watch cost something but still....it wasn't much like $3.00 which is cheaper than buying a movie unless it's old and you can get it on Thrift Books. Anyway, thank you so much for being my 'neighbor' even though we are far apart! Stay cool out there! It's in the high 80's and low 90's here so I am hoping to get out early today and mow. Take care!

  3. I'm so sorry to hear that your RA is acting up on you. I have a friend that has it and I know the agony that she's in at times, so I can imagine how you must feel. Still, you are inspiring to me. You "keep on keeping on," as my mom used to say. Love your cobbler and the fact that you make things from scratch. That's better than I can say these days. I really like your aprons too. I love pockets!

I had another x-ray on my back yesterday. It still is not healing. No change since the fall in January. I have no idea why or what they're going to do next. The doctor said he will call tomorrow and let me know his thoughts.

I hope you have relief very soon my friend.
    Blessings, Betsy

    1. I got a steroid shot yesterday so I am feeling great this morning! PTL! I'm so sorry about your back....I wonder why? I know things take more time to heal as we age but you're a youngster compared to me! LOL! I will say prayers for you! Do you have osteoporosis?

  4. Wow, you have been busy. I love the fabric you picked. The food looks great too. You reminded me to take time to read, which I haven't done. Hope you feel back to yourself soon.

    1. Well, with all my 'runs' to Mountain Home...I ran out of homemade food so I picked up a 'fresh' pizza at the really nice grocery store in Mountain Home while I was there.....I got a steroid shot so I'm feeling great this morning but the dang pizza gave me heartburn and it wasn't even good! The rest is going in the garbage and I am cooking up something 'homemade' today. I never get ill on my homemade food and I never have heartburn so it had to be that pizza. I need to make some 'freezer meals' so when I have no time to cook I can just defrost something I've made. It's not worth eating out for me for sure!

  5. Celtic blessings to you and hocus pocus to that nasty Arthur Itis. Begone with him soon, hopefully. I like your positive attitude to things and the fact that you refuse to give in to the pain, which must be unbearable at times for you. Yes, I'm with you on the tragic news front. The latest tragedy in London (the fire in the tower block) was almost unbearable to see and hear about. Hoping for good news of some sort soon but things seem outwith our control sometimes. Have a good weekend my friend.

    1. Steroids to the rescue for now! Feeling loose as a goose this morning and need to get out and mow and do all that physical stuff I haven't been able to get too. Thank you for your kind wishes and a Celtic blessing for sure as I have Irish roots. Back at you and thank you so much for stopping by!

  7. Hi Sam!! :) You have a great attitude, onwards and upwards. You know, if I let my problems get to me, I'd be in bed 24/7. I used to buy the boxed cakes too, but that's not REAL food is it? :) Plus who knows what all that stuff is inside? It is time consuming though, but definitely worth it. I hope you feel better! I love the mug! :)

    1. You are so right! I'll tell you...those turtle brownies were a lot of work and still hard to get out of the pan but wow were they over the moon good! Way better than the box ones! I was amazed. I may post it as it was in a sample magazine I got so it was 'free' to the public I'd think? It's a long one but oh so worth it!
Yes, I ate a fresh pizza from the store last night that I baked myself but did not make and got heartburn which I never get and it woke me up it was that bad. I REALLY need to make your frozen pizzas so I have something when I am gone all day and I'm too tired to cook. Feeling much better with drugs! LOL! (They gave me a steroid shot and a prescription)....doc was concerned as I have gained 7 pounds in one week and it is all the fluid from the RA....they're concerned about fluid around the heart, kidneys and lungs but I know I'm fine in all those areas and the steroids are already doing their job! So happy....I can get work done today! BTW, I put chicken wire around my plants and the beans are already growing back and the hibiscus too....it's not pretty as it is the front of my house but it's working! I just unrolled it in front of them as they are too tall to put it on top....so far so good! I'll take pics today and post later.

    1. The aprons will be great if I ever get to them....you know me and my 'big ideas'...lol! Got a steroid shot yesterday and today I can 'whip the world'! You CAN set records on steroids although they don't give awards for the sport of housework or lawn work. I think someone (maybe me) should remedy that! See?....another 'big idea' from yours truly!

  9. Visiting your blog from Rain's! Sounds like you get a lot done even with your RA! I have always been slow in the mornings it seems but worse now since I contacted chronic Lyme disease. Hope your RA lets up soon! Your new apron pattern looks like it would be comfortable. I like to wear aprons when cooking as get things on my T-shirt if I don't! Nancy
