YOP Week #41

Well,  CRAFT WEEKEND is not going as planned so I may have to switch a weekend day for a weekday or 2.  So much around here depends on the weather...like today is great for hanging clothes outside on the line and this next week is going to be rainy so I am doing laundry today.  Yesterday, the roofers came and put a special coating on the roof like they put on mobile homes so that interfered with my CRAFT day and the dogs were having fits because my neighbor was having a garage sale and people were coming and going and there was a lengthy phone call in there too in the middle of the afternoon.  So you see what I'm up against!  Today I also need to make a meal, a dessert and bread....so there goes my CRAFT WEEKEND.  I think my crafting will take place during the week now.
I did manage to make some progress this week though and look at this......
Yes, those are my Hermione's Everyday socks or at least the first one.  Going great I might add too.  I have no idea what my problem was before......maybe I had a 'sock seizure' but I am thoroughly enjoying them this time around.  Cross your fingers it stays that way too! LOL!
I forgot to show you my doily last week for YOP ......another project that is actually on my YOP list too....amazing.  I'm about halfway done with it but have not picked it up this week because of Easter projects.....but as soon as those are done I will finish this little cutie.
I finished 4 of these mini quilt backgrounds and now I have to do the embroidery, make little flag buntings and applique a flower above the green rickrack you see.  I'm sure it would go faster if I was only making one but as it is it is taking me awhile.  I think they will be cute when done though and a nice little wall hanging for the Easter season.
I used a progress keeper this time so you could see what I've done since last week.  This is such a nice project but my edges are not always straight and yet I don't think I've messed up.  It could stand to be blocked really well but how do you block a blanket?  I think I will just put a nice edging on it and that should make all the difference....I hope.

I mentioned this past week that Sandra Paul of Cherry Heart podcast and Sam of Betsy Makes podcast are having a CAL  (Crochet along ) for the Hotel of Bees shawl.
I bought the pattern this morning and you can get $1.00 off by using the code BEE20  The code is good for about a month I think or all during the CAL.  I'm a little concerned though because I downloaded it and there are 6 PDF's and the first one was 21 pages!  How difficult is this pattern?  I consider myself a fairly good crocheter but Whoa Nellie!  Plus, my printer is acting up as it is and it is not printing it clearly.....I may try and print it out in grey format.  But the fact that it is a CAL should answer any questions along the way and the stitches used are all ones I've done before.  We shall see but I need to order my yarn if I'm going to do it and I don't care for the yarn they are using so I am 'hunting' for my own which takes hours and hours!  Tune in next week to see if I 'bite the bullet'....lol!  Plus, the shawl  is based on the book "All The Light We Cannot See" which I have not read so I want to read the book simultaneously.  I think books and yarn just go together beautifully.
I also started watching a new podcast and this gal is my sister in crime!  It's called Ruby Moss Cottage and not only does she have the same interests as I do but lots of WIP's too. She does knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, reading and paint by number plus she wants to be as self-sufficient as possible.  Now, I tell you....who does that remind you of ?  LOL!  She's a hoot and she just started not too long ago and has about 6 episodes so far.  Give her a try as I think she is going to be really popular.  She does beautiful work too and very interesting projects.
Well, I'm off to get dinner started, get some bread made and a dessert.  In between those tasks I will be knitting on my sock.  I am so glad to be back knitting.....I really missed it!  Have a great 'crafty' week!
Happy Trails!

  1. You are doing great on the sock. Congrats on getting over the sock seizure lol. You have been very busy on the Easter quilted hangings. So anxious to see them completed. I still love that shawl and need to go and take a peek at the info for it. Good progress on the blanket. I think a border will so the trick in making it have straighter edges.

  2. Whoa Nellie is right! I get nervous when I see more than one or two lines in a knitting pattern lol...your sock colours are really gorgeous Sam! Too bad your craft weekend got interrupted, whatever I had planned tomorrow will be interrupted too because it'll be sunny warm weather and I want to get wash our big quilt and dry it on the line. Plus I want to get outside for the day so as to take advantage of the weather, I might even wear shorts and walk around in my rain boots in the still 4 feet of snow in some places in the yard lol...

    1. Yes, when Spring comes I make 'rain' (get it Rain? lol!) plans and 'sun' plans that way I have all the bases covered. Enjoy your sunshine and warmth!

  3. All the Light We Cannot See is a beautiful book! Enjoy! Looks like a lovely shawl too, but I'd think you could easily sub two colours from stash.

Today I realized that whatever time I think something will take I should multiply by three. Maybe my poor time estimates are why I'm always running around like crazy? Things must be bad because Gavin has started volunteering to do errands for me so that I can focus and get stuff done. I suspect that you have too much on the go too, and not enough hours in the day :)

Definitely schedule those craft days! And maybe I'll take my own advice and schedule myself some painting time!

    1. I posted to you but not sure it took...I'll go back later and check and repost if necessary. Thank you for the book tip as I am wary of PPW's...they seem to always be a little bit weird to me. I think I heard that years ago about multiplying time it will take by 3 but I have yet to do it....when will I learn?
Yes, you schedule your paint days too!

  4. Your sock is looking great! I knew you could do it! And I'm loving your little quilts. They look so springy and cheerful. That sounds like an awful lot of PDF's. I think I would give up, but I can't see you doing that. I'm going to check out your new friends podcast. It sounds like a great one.
    Blessings, Betsy

    1. I'm still up in the air about the HOB shawl...that 21 page pdf really put me off although it could be that it is just very detailed instructions and I think she included written and charted instructions. I hope you like her....I think she's a hoot and she does beautiful projects.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, I think maybe there should be more book/yarn collaborations! LOL! Although, come to think of it I am knitting Hermione's Everyday socks AND reading Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire so there you go!

    1. thank you, Kristina....I'm really wondering about that shawl myself but I already bought the pattern and the CAL would answer any questions I would have, hopefully so now would be the time! We'll see....it's busy at this time of year.

  9. Your quilting looks so fun. I'm sorry it's been hectic and noise and strangers stalled your intended crafting weekend. I LOVE how your Hermione is knitting up! The colorway is like Strawberry Shortcake and her gang.
I love your visits. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my sometimes lengthy posts. As a former teacher I have to make sure I cover everything, LOL. Portuguese knitting takes a slight brain and hand adjustment. I feel more comfortable but still to get used to it. But I'm so glad to have taken Andrea's class.

  10. Well, I was positive I had posted a comment here, Sandra, but it's not here - so I must not have pressed "publish". :( Since I already wrote a long comment admiring all your beautiful things, I'll just post today that I am really tempted by the Hotel of Bees Shawl. I'm more than a little daunted by the size of the files the pattern comes in though, so I think for now I'll content myself with seeing how yours progresses. I also want you to know I've enjoyed watching the Ruby Moss Cottage podcasts. I'm ready to watch episode #4. See... I was here, alright.
