2nd mowing and beautiful Springtime!

I mowed yesterday after picking up branches all over the yard.  Mother Nature has been stormy and breezy and cleaning up the dead debris from winter.  I have a pile to burn but it's been a bit windy.  Yesterday was a beautiful day to be outside and the 2nd mowing always looks so much nicer than the first  one in the Spring.  The birds were singing their little hearts out and the butterflies were out in full force!  They love these flowers I planted last year and I'm pretty sure they were annuals but they reseeded and came up in mass this Spring and they bloom all Summer long and into Fall.  I don't know what they are but maybe one of you can id them for me.  Plus, the butterflies love them!
The clematis are still blooming well...........
The Iris are up....both the regular and the Japanese..........
My peony bush has one bud but then I found another bush with a bud....do they spread?  I know I only planted one bush several years back and I only get one bloom per year.....what's up with that?
Up North they were always falling down weighted with so many flowers.
The sedum is up and I think there's another next to it on the right in a red color but it's struggling............
My lavender came back.....Yay!  I've never had much luck with lavender so I tried potting it up and that seemed to work last year.
This one never really died back in the Winter and has spread from one plant to several now..........
Also, the Coral Bells are blooming...........
I found these blooms on the edge of the woods and there are quite a few all along the border of my property.....I'm praying it is raspberries!  It looks like it from what I remember of my raspberries on the farm...........they have thorns too!
I was tired after mowing but watered my plants outside and today we are under the threat of severe storms....I always like a rain after mowing.....it just seems soothing to the grass.  So, indoor chores today which are many!  There's laundry, change sheets, make some egg salad, freeze the leftover ham, ironing, chocolate chip cookies (I never got the pie made), make Mediterranean Salad and do a little knitting, crocheting and sewing.  We shall see if I get all that done! LOL!  I hope you have a great day!  Stay safe!
Happy Trails!

  1. Your flowering plants are so pretty. We had Peony in Kansas and they bloomed like crazy. Although the ones in Iowa seemed to have bigger flowers. Go figure. You are so busy all the time too. Aren't we glad we retired so we could work harder lol.

    1. Did you live in Iowa? That's where I lived before I retired down here! I lived out in the country between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City and I worked in Iowa City.
Well, at least we now get to 'sort of' so what we want....I just love not being under any pressure to get things done....I take my own sweet time! LOL!

  2. Wow you have so many plants and flowers already! We're still getting below freezing some nights and rain, rain, rain. The weatherman said the night before last, that we already have twice as much rain this year than we get in a normal year. We're usually fairly dry on our side of the state. Seattle gets the rain. Anyway, there's no flowers blooming around here yet, it's just been too cold. Trees are finally starting to show a few buds on them and that's a good sign.

    1. Yes, Spring in the South is wonderful but that's because Summer, while you're outside enjoying yours, we will be inside with the AC going full blast! LOL!

  3. Stay safe to Sam! :) Your flowers are so nice. I can't wait to get some flower seeds into the ground this year! I don't know what that butterfly-loving flower is, but that butterfly is so pretty, nice shot! You have quite the "to do" list today! Mine revolves around dinner! :) My body is still sore from 2 days of yard work, and it's raining here, so I may be in bed with books in between making dinner.

    1. Survived the storms and never lost power or had to go to the basement so that was great...I love 'good' storms and it was a cozy Hygge day! I lit candles and cooked and baked and did some knitting. Reading is great too! Yes, that first 'outing' in the fresh air and the work can be a little daunting but I do stretching exercises every morning to keep my self flexible in my old age (68) and I didn't get sore at all....amazing...those exercises have really helped. Watch your dogs....they never just get up in the morning without going through some stretches and gyrations....that's where I learned it from! LOL!
BTW...I copied and printed off your Monthly shopping instructions and your April menu and plan on working towards it. Thank you SO much for sharing that as I know it was a lot of work and I really appreciate it!

    2. Wow, you're welcome!! :) I hope that it helps you, I mean, that's what works for me, you have to tweak it for yourself. My biggest challenge was having enough money in advance, but I managed and it's working out really great. I stretch every morning and before bed too, but I think I overdid it anyway! :) Shall I learn from that? Not likely...

  5. So pretty Sam! I have grown your mystery flowers before and we always called them Sweet Williams. I am sure there is a more technical term though. I hope you got those cookies made!

    1. I knew you guys would know what they were! Thank you! And Connie, who owned a greenhouse confirmed it! I will take rain over fire danger any day! That comes in the Fall after we have 'cooked' all Summer! LOL! I think you will get some of this as we have more coming! Hugs to you too! And I hope your husband is doing well.

  7. Man, you go on the mowing, Sandra. It was a family affair when we had first moved in but we gave up our grass b/c of the drought. This summer we plan to mulch.

    1. It's more weeds than grass! LOL! Good idea on the mulch. Yes, water is a precious natural resource and there is a finite supply if we're not careful. I try to use gray water for some of my watering and I want to make a rain barrel out of a garbage can or several. It was on Pinterest.

  8. Your pink/rose flowers are Dianthus, they do re seed themselves and sometimes come back from old plants. I had some for a few years even up here in the land of the frozen! Your flowers are lovely! I could mow but it snowed:)

    1. Oh no, snow? This time of year it's probably lost it's romance...I remember those Easter snows. Thank you for knowing what those flowers were....I knew you would! I want more of those as they are awesome! And the heat here didn't seem to bother them last summer although I do water but still that metal trough they're in gets pretty hot. They are truly little workhorses and like I said the butterflies flock to them. I hope you get to mow soon!

  11. I think perhaps your little flowers might be Dianthus too. You could quite happily chop the old branches (the long spindly bits) from your Lavender and it will spring back to life. Your 'raspberries' might be little wild strawberries though with thorns they might well turn into brambles or blackberries.I also have Peonies which have multiplied themselves although it's a mystery how they do this since they originate from rhizomes. Nice to see your garden and thank you for popping over to mine and leaving your sweet comment.

  12. The peonies - I have two in my yard. One is white & I think I got lucky with it and planted it in the right spot. It is pretty big with lots of flowers. When it rains they get weighted down with the water & tip over to the ground. Staking helps avoid this. They need lots of sun and acidic soil. The other one I have is the same deep pink as yours. It is struggling. I thing because it doesn't get as much sun and is near a large maple tree that I thing is taking all the nutrients. So I think I will move it this year to a much more sunny spot.
The Dianthis and sweet William are both of the same family. Although I have many Dianthis and yours look like mine. I love perennials - the clumps usually get bigger every year (if they are each in their correct environment) or they will reseed easily.
Show more pictures as the season progresses, please. They are wonderful
