I finally finished this dreaded book..........it was the worst....there has only been one worse than this and it was a 'self-published' book which explains everything......if someone can explain why this book is so famous I would love to hear about it and on top of that it was a PBS series? I just don't get it. I'm going to try and watch the series if I can find it and maybe that will make more sense.
I also finished this one............loved it.....real life is so much more interesting than fiction! I even found 2 of my relations mentioned in the book.
I'm still listening to the Financial Peace cd's and reading Milk Street magazine..............
But I started reading 2 new books...actually more than that.....this one I just started last night and these are all on my tablet using the Kindle app................I got these on sale for usually .99 but no more than 1.99.............Lavender Dreamer has recommended this author to me and I am finally reading one...the first book in this mystery series....so far....so good...it starts off with a bang....literally! LOL! Thank you, Diane!
Most of you know, I am all about the 'cozy' so when I saw this book on sale I had to get it.........I had been curious for awhile about 'the happiest people' on earth as Denmark was rated and they say it is because they all practice Hygge (pronounced Hoo-ga). It was funny, because we had a 2 hour power outage last night and I was reading this book with candles and a fire going in the fireplace while munching on cheese and crackers with a glass of wine and those are all part of their creating Hygge! I would fit right in with the Danes! This is a great book so far and I am hoping to pick up even more tips for my cozy life!
I'm also reading this as I am seriously considering opening an Etsy shop if I could only decide what I want to sell........any ideas appreciated..........
As for watching....it's the usual news shows I've mentioned, I did watch the entire inauguration except for the balls in the evening, I watched Inside Number 23's Vlogs from Vogue Knitting Live in NY and also a few others. I'm trying to catch up with Stitching the High Notes and she recommended a show on Netflix called Stranger Things which she said was similar to the movie Goonies several years back. I watched the first episode last night and I could have watched more...there are 8 total so far. It is a series produced by Netflix. So, that's pretty much what's going on in my world of literature......what's going on in yours?
Happy Trails!

You read a lot of different books...which is so smart! And I'm glad you are liking this series by Louise Penny. I looked at my Goodreads list and realized I had missed one of them so I am reading #4 now. And it's SO good! Hope she writes more..I will have read all of the series when I get through with this one. And I've heard of that first book...don't know how entertaining the shows would be! lol Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI need to update Good Reads...thanks for reminding me! Yes, enjoying the book especially after the really boring one! LOL!
DeleteI enjoyed Stranger Things, quite scary, and I also recommend Louise Penny's series. I am reading them in order, I just read the 3rd and bought the 4th, Gamache is an admirable guy.
ReplyDeleteNice to hear about Louise Penny. I have only watched 1 episode of Stranger Things and it was scary but not awful and I had no bad dreams....yet...lol!
DeleteYou amaze me how many books to read. And reading them all the same time! I would get everything confused. Blessings, Betsy
ReplyDeleteSO many books....so little time! LOL!
DeleteI have many books that I've started but will need to restart as it's been so long I've forgotten what I read. I did just go through the Mollie Makes a friend brought me from Dubai. Did not watch the inauguration. Mostly I prefer silence. At night sometimes I watch shows about house hunting or remodeling and decorating. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually have the t.v. on during the day but since I talk to no one all day every day (except for you guys and a call from my daughter in the evening) I like to watch the news and podcasts in the evening. I also like to stay up on the political scene as it is very tenuous here in the states and I sign petitions and try to stay on top of the corruptors, polluters and politicians who like to 'pull a fast one' most of the time! LOL!
DeleteI'm considering opening an Etsy shop too, but have no idea what to do for the tax stuff. In our state, we are required to charge tax and pay the tax, which involves a tax I.D. number. However, much of what I make is already sold on Etsy, so I'm worried I'd waste money vs. make money (and get way too busy). I hope you get advice.
ReplyDeleteI have a tax id already and you can have most questions answered by the Small Business Administration in your community. I would not let what is being sold already out there stop you but if your heart isn't in it and you don't have the time then, you're right, it would be a waste of time and money. I'm just investigating the rules on Etsy and I think it is only people that buy from you from your state that have to pay tax but it is something you have to be aware of. As for income tax, you have to make a certain amount before you are liable. I can't remember what it is but it's quite a bit if I remember but I need to brush up because laws and tax laws are always changing.
DeleteKudos to you on reading those heavy looking nonfiction books. The fourth and fifth books are my speed for sure.
ReplyDeleteLots of books! I have found I've kind of lost my drive for reading...used to spend most of my time reading...but I read so much during the teaching day...I could not bring myself to watch the inauguration...and I used to watch lots of political news...just can't anymore....but I have become a bit more activist....Stranger Things was great! I real 80's throwback...there are LOTS of references...and the style is very similar to ET...think it was an homage to it..I'm going to let my husband know about Neighbors, it might interest him...Have you read Hit by a Farm? Ive met that author...also Chickens in the Road? She has a great blog too...and I've been to Getting Stitched on the Farm, a blog by Kristin Nicholas...who lives on a sheep farm in Mass (I've been a couple of times) and is also a fiber designer....
ReplyDeleteHi Sam,
ReplyDeleteOnce again getting caught up on your posts has required that I now have a cup of coffee. Always like to see what you are reading. Gotta love books. I know what you mean about some books getting GREAT press, and then reading them and thinking, this book is awful.
You sure buy lots of healthy food. I made home made chicken soup this morning.
House is kind of in a mess, having new carpet and new furniture for the living room. So everything is somewhere else. Kitty is very confused. So am I.
