YOP Week #29

Great week for me!  Another finish and look what came today............SNOW!!!!  My favorite precipitation!

Unfortunately it never lasts long here but I was appreciative none the less....
I FINISHed the cloth for my girlfriend....now I just need to wrap it, write her a nice card and get it in the mail..........
I FINISHed the leg on sock #1 of my Christmas Eve Cast On socks and started on the leg of sock #2...this yarn is almost more than fingering weight but it is so nice and sturdy!  It will make a wonderfully warm pair of socks for sure.
I started another 'little' project that I've been wanting to do for awhile now and that is little felted hearts that I will fill with lavender once I get the lavender...........I'm just using some leftover Noro Kureon yarn that I had.  It is a Susan B. Anderson free pattern on Ravelry and you join using 2 dpn's and the 3rd for knitting onto....that threw me as I am used to having 3 needles with the 4th to knit with.  I finally got the hang of it after a few tries.  It seems I always have to restart several times on new patterns....why that is I do not know but it happens a lot!
This is what they are supposed to look like when done.........
I also finally got to try something I have been wanting to do for a long, long time.....soap making!
I've had all the materials for awhile now...in fact, I  was going to make Thanksgiving soaps and then Christmas soaps but alas it never materialized but today....I made soap!
I looked for awhile for a recipe that did not use lye as I did not want to mess with that stuff!
This was so easy and no fuss , no muss and look at my Lavender Rosemary Soap...........it has to sit for 2 hours and then you take it out of the silicone mold (no sticking) and cut it into bars.  Now, I am going to try other 'flavors'.  I'm thinking it will be great for gifts and I will probably include a bar with the wash cloth for my friend.....nice combo gift huh?  This is one of the easiest crafts I have ever done and finished in one day! LOL!  It smells divine too!

Last but not least....here's what Miss Peeps was up to this morning..........I think maybe she was cold...lol!
Happy Trails!!!

  2. Snow!!! How I miss seeing it and listening to how hushed everything is when it falls.

That cloth is smazing and what a special treat for your friend to receive it with a lovely bar of home made soap. You are so thoughtful.

Those little hearts are cute. I would have issues trying to wrap my mind around using 3 needles too. Those will be sweet to stick in a lingerie drawer.

    Have a blessed week dear.

    1. I figure if it's going to be cold anyway then we might as well have a little snow! Thank you, Marsha....I hope you have a quiet and restful week ahead.

  3. I really like how the washcloth for your friend turned out and putting a bar of soap with it will be the perfect gift. I think those little hearts are pretty cute too. I’ve never used three needles. I always use four, so I can imagine that it would be difficult to get used to. I can almost smell your soap from here. :-) Have fun!
We got home late last night from Nebraska. Oh my goodness it was cold there! One morning -26F with the windchill. Today it was 45F in Spokane and felt absolutely wonderful. I joked with Dennis that I almost put my swimsuit on! It really feels like a heat wave. Have a lovely evening my friend.
    Blessings, Betsy

    1. It is really cold here....below freezing and tomorrow wind chills are going to be -15! Can you believe it? In the South? I can't seem to get warm and I keep bumping the thermostat up and I wear shoes and socks and a sweatshirt in the house....brr! Glad you got home safe and sound. Yes, above freezing feels good after bitter temps!

  4. I've always wanted to try soap making but can't get many of the ingredients required. It will definitely make a very nice gift with that very pretty washcloth.

    1. You mean you don't have Amazon delivering there? I thought they delivered all over the world! I would be lost here in 'the boonies' without them! LOL!

  6. snow is beautiful and even better when it doesn't overstay its welcome. We had fog today but luckily we were above the fog line and it was a beautiful day. Soap making? You are awesome with all the new things you put your hands to.

    1. When it warms up we get fog too and driving in these hills in fog is worse than snow! I stay home for sure. That soap was so easy I couldn't believe I had put it off for so long. I need some easy projects to intersperse with the long range ones. A FINISH in one day...who knew! LOL!

  7. It looks like you'll soon (or maybe you already have) a winter wonderland. It's snowing here today, but it doesn't look nearly so enchanting as I imagine yours does with all those pine trees. That XO cloth is perfect, Sam. Your friend will love receiving such a sweet gift from you. And putting your own soap with it will be wonderful! I look forward to any future soap making adventures you try. I've long thought I'd like to try making soap, but it looks like such a long process. Of course, I only looked into making it with lye. I think at the heart of it is... I'd love to "be" a soap maker, but I'm not sure I want to go through the process of "becoming" one. IYKWIM

Looking forward to seeing the finished felted hearts. What tiny knitting that looks like! And did Miss Peeps get under that rug all by herself? How funny. And Sweet.

  9. Is that considered a white out? How fun to make soap! I'm glad there are lyeless kits; I read about that stuff and it's scary. Your Christmas Eve Cast On always make me smile.
