I finally finished all 500 some pages of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire...wonderful!
and last night I watched the movie of the 2nd book; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.....the movie was excellent!
My next fiction book is this one which I have already started reading..............to go along with the Hotel of Bees KAL which I have not worked on all week.....too much outside work to do when the sun shines and when it rains I check for leaks in the roof and put bowls out! LOL!
For my non-fiction I am reading this book which I have had for quite a while......probably when I had my little farm...............
I also got 'treasures' in the mail this week! From Thriftbooks....books that have been on my list for awhile and they are all non-fiction...........it's time to start thinking about...........
Yes, that's right.....Christmas! Here's another one I've had my eyes on for a while............
and what about this one?
Plus, this one has been on my list since it was first published but used is so much less expensive! This is a really thick book too.....like about 3 inches! Probably another 500 pager at least!
I found a copy of the pattern book that has the Karma Throw that I want to make. Joyce of Ruby Moss Cottage podcast has made it and it is gorgeous! But from the looks of it...it will be a challenge! It has intarsia although I have done crochet intarsia....remember my Hooky pillow? So, I think I can handle it but there are some instructions I do not understand. Maybe Joyce can straighten me out.
If I was in a store I doubt if I would even give a second look to this pattern book as it seems pretty 'blah' ...........
but tucked inside the pages is this glorious throw/shawl....it is about 18 inches wide and over 5 feet long! It will cost a fortune so I can't order the yarn all at once....I'll just have to take my chances. They don't even make the yarn that this was originally made from but I found a yarn substitute website that is giving me some options. Ravelry has had some KALs with this in the past so I am reading over all their notes too.
I am on Exodus chapter 30 in the New Living Translation Bible and I've been listening to Pastor Rick Warren's Daily Hope podcast. Other than that just the alternative media news and a few weekly knitting podcasts such as The Grocery Girls!
Tonight after supper I am curling up in bed with my new 'treasures' and devouring them! Ahhhh.......bliss...a cup of tea and thee!
Happy Trails!

I am re-reading some of my Charlotte MacCleod mysteries - ones she wrote under Alisa Craig: the Grub and Stakers series and the Madoc & Janet Rhys series. They are cozy mysteries from the 80s and 90s.
ReplyDeleteI think my daughter has mentioned Janet Rhys and really liked that series. I wrote all of them down now so thank you!
DeleteFun books! That shawl looks amazing! I just started an Amish Quilt trilogy, but I left it at the camper and I can't remember the name and author for you. It sure looks like you'll be busy for a while.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Betsy
I am always busy...what's up with that? I guess when I'm not I'll be 5 feet under! LOL! But just once I would like to look around and see things 'done'. I think the only way that will happen is if I get a 'tiny house'..lol!
DeleteI used Mission Falls yarn once I think; it was great but is discontinued now. Yay for Harry Potter.
ReplyDeleteThey had a substitute of Classic Elite yarns which are $8 a skein so I looked at Knitpicks and I think I may have a cheaper alternative there for about $50 instead of $150! I'll have to change a few colors but then it will be unique. This will be a long project...time wise. Yes, I do love me some Harry Potter!
DeleteI usually craft Christmas presents in January. I am so far behind, but will catch up. Love the books.
ReplyDeleteJanuary would be best for me too but alas....here it is May and I have those July birthdays looming too! LOL!
DeleteGreat books you have there. Should give you hours of hours of entertainment!
ReplyDeleteReading is a wonderful way to spend time :)
You'll have to let me know how you like the Anthony Doerr book. I really enjoyed it.
Have a great day.
~K.
I am really enjoying the Anthony Doerr book so far!
DeleteI am reading Mary poppin this week..such a magical book :)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading dear all
Hugs and smiles x
I've never read Mary Poppins...just viewed the movie. I should read it as the books are usually better than the movies. Another one you may like is Pollyanna.
DeleteWe're all about the happiness aren't we? Hugs and smiles to you too!
I love all of your books! I'll have to look for that vintage Christmas books...how neat. I've been rereading Thomas Perry books but I started a new author last night. I'll have to read more before I know if it's good! lol Enjoy your day and all of your creativity. Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteI wrote down Thomas Perry....I still haven't read 1/2 the books you've recommended....so many books...so little time! LOL! You always recommend great ones though, thank you!
DeleteI have been reading through all the magazines that seem to pile up around here. I have way too many cooking magazines:)
ReplyDeleteCooking magazines are the worst because then I want to try all the recipes and there will never be enough time to do that and on top of that I have lots of cook books! At least I haven't subscribed for years now. Hopefully, the fact that I am trying to eat healthier will eliminate lots of the recipes...unless I get tempted which I am all the time! LOL!
DeleteWow Sam you have some nice reading ahead of you! I ordered a few biographies from Thriftbooks, one on Edward G Robinson (for me) and one on Larry Fine (one of the Three Stooges) for Alex. Even with the exchange rate, it's not too bad, though I wish they'd offer the same bundle shipping fees for Canada! They're arriving end of May beginning of June.
ReplyDeleteI loved Kenneth Branagh in the Chamber of Secrets! He was pretty funny! :)
Which one was Kenneth? I'm so bad about actors and actresses except the rally old ones! LOL! My generation!m m I do remember Edward G. and the 3 Stooges although I didn't care for the 3 Stooges as I thought they were mean to each other. I wish you could have a Canadian version of Thrift Books to save you money!
ReplyDeleteLol...I love the old actors too, I can't wait to get Edward G's auto-biography!! I love the Stooges, yes they are terribly mean to each other, but I somehow find humour in that lol...Kenneth is This Guy...he is actually a trained Shakespearean actor and he was so amusing in that movie for me.
