The busy life of a retired gal!

I did not mention that Tuesday my little Annie girl had dental surgery so that was part of my "busy".  She's doing great and had blood work and her nails trimmed while she was "out".....I can't hear her 'click, click, click' across the floor now and she sneaks up on me!  She's 14 so I can't say I wasn't a little concerned but she did fine.  She has antibiotics to take twice a day but we're managing that part too and she gets a treat after she finally swallows it.  I've given meds to dogs before and I just stuff it down their throat and hold their mouth closed until they start sticking their tongue out and I know then they've swallowed it.  I don't mess with trying to hide it in a hot dog or anything.....they're too smart for that!  Mine are anyway.
I took their beds and Annie's blanket to the laundromat yesterday.  I try to wash them monthly.  I could wash them in my washer but I don't have a working drier and they need their beds.  They're so thick that they won't dry completely outside so to the laundromat I go.

I did make something yesterday that I had never made before.....English Muffins. Katrina from Pioneer Woman at  Heart (she's listed on my side bar) made them the other day so I used the same recipe she did.  It was an all day event or part of the day at least but since I'm home all day it's not a big deal.  One thing I did not realize is that they are not baked.....at all!  They're fried...lightly but they're fried..........no wonder I like them so much.  They are really easy though and although I didn't get all the 'nooks and crannies' like Thomas does, I still really liked them and will make them again for sure.
When all was said and done, I was really pleased with the result!  Thank you, Katrina, as I have been wanting to make them for a long time.  Next up.......homemade crackers!
What 'new' thing have you done or tried?
Happy Trails!

  2. I'm glad little Annie did well and things are going well with her medicines. It's never fun when our fur babies are sick or struggling. Your English muffins look amazing. Yum! You amaze me!

I started physical therapy yesterday on my back. It hurts, but I know it's helping. No lifting over 2 1/2 lbs. for 6-8 more weeks though, so that puts a crimp on all of my decluttering and painting plans for the winter. I sure hop eit's better for camping season. :)-
    Blessings always,
    Betsy

    1. Wonderful! I'm so glad you are getting some help. Yes, I think physical therapy always has some pain involved but just keep your mind on camping season! Take care sweetie!

  3. I hope Annie will be okay after her big day! This week I made Garlic Knots...used half wheat flour and half white, I froze a bunch of them to take out when we have soup. The garlic is just in the butter that you put on top. Next time I might just use plain butter:) They are very good! That was my baking adventure this week :)

    1. Oh, I love anything with garlic on it and it sounds like a great item to have on hand and with soup! I'm going to 'google' them.

  4. Glad you liked them. The last time I made them I simply wiped the pan with a oil and a paper towel, using the least amount of oil I could use. Turned out just the same. Not sticking either. My family loves them.

    1. I'm going to do that next time as at that low temp they do absorb the oil. Thanks for the tip and the recipe. They are delish!

  5. Never made English muffins but I love them. Hubby has a feeding tube so it is only I who eats and that is a real challenge. It is hard to give meds to the animals. Once of these days I will get it right, lol.

    1. I have lived alone for over 20 years and I just make regular dishes and eat off of them all week. I make sure I cook things I really like but I don't get tired of it and I only have to cook about every 5-7 days but then I bake and make bread and dog treats and/or things to freeze. I know I run my dishwasher every day! LOL!
Annie was really good and I have a Rottweiler too and she's very good about taking them....you really have to show them you mean business and they ARE going to swallow it....then they get a treat afterwards to get rid of the terrible taste in their mouth.

  6. Sending love to Annie...one of our husky rescues has horrible teeth. Before we adopted her in 2015, she always ran away from home and fed herself on other people's garbage...there were stories of her chewing through chain link fences to get out. So her teeth are all broken and at some point she will need major dental work. She's never tried to run away here, go figure! Your English muffins looks awesome, I'll have to go to Kristina's blog to fish out that recipe! We like making our version of McMuffins!

    1. Her breathe is fine now! I was amazed! She was a rescue too and the vet said she had some broken and a couple rotten....I just hope she wasn't in too much pain...I hate dental pain! I know what you mean about your huskie not running away. Annie has never tried to run away here or my Rottweiler, Nitty either in fact people think I have a buried electric cord because they will chase a deer out of the yard but stop right at the end of the driveway....they know! They wear no collars. It was a lot of me running after them at first but they finally learned and I don't punish at all they just finally understand. They know to listen when I use my 'stern' voice but it's been years since I've had to use it. My girls know they have a job to do....protect me and our property and just like humans they need to feel they have a purpose. Just my opinion but I've had all kinds and they've all been wonderful companions and have never growled or bitten anyone but I don't doubt that they would if the situation called for it. Animals are a better judge of people than people! LOL!

  7. Mmm, homemade bread. That is the best; I bet your house smelled really good and your dogs were likcin' their chops. Glad everything for Annie went well. When I had a dog, it'd cost $150 to have her knocked out and get her teeth cleaned. My neighbor pays over twice that for her canine. I was shocked at how much.

    1. Yes, it's pricey but Annie really needed it. These are my last pets though as it is too expensive for me on a retirement income plus I couldn't run around after them to train them anymore. So, these are my last unfortunately.
