Cool down here....loving it!

It's cooled off a bit and it's time to get outside and get work done before winter!  The mums are blooming.........

the leaves (some, mostly sassafras and weed trees) are starting to fall ..........
 and turn color...........
the girls are enjoying staying outside longer............Nitty does NOT like her picture taken
whereas Annie is a little ham............and we're ALL getting gray! LOL!
I put up one Fall decoration but I need to do more........
I washed screens to ready them for putting away for the winter.  I could leave them up but you can see out the windows so much clearer with them off.  It's a little early to put them away here but they'll at least be clean along with the windows.
Yesterday I was looking to organize my batteries which seem to be all over the house.  I "googled" and found this one to be the best....for $6.00 at The Container Store online.  But then looking at it I thought I have a lot more batteries than that!  I have battery operated candles, lights for when we lose power, camera, flashlights and lanterns.  I would need several of those containers.  So, I looked around the house to see what I could use that I already had.  "Use it up, make it do, throw it out or buy it new"!
This is where some of them were stuffed stored, some in drawers and some laying on bookshelves.
I knew I had some Lock n' Lock containers with dividers in them that I had purchased for sewing supplies....hmmmm...........this was the biggest one..........
so I emptied it and put the batteries in............I thought it worked pretty slick as I want them all in one place.
until I went to put the lid on............not deep enough....and if I lay them down there's not enough room for them all...........thank goodness I had one of my brilliant ideas! LOL!  The dividers were removable so I dug through my other Lock n' Locks and found a smaller but deeper one that the dividers from a smaller one fit into.  Voila!

I still need C batteries and more AA's but I think they will all fit in there.......
and the lid fits on!!!!  I like the Lock n' Locks because they are waterproof too.
Where do you keep your batteries?  Are you "prepping" for winter yet?
Happy Trails!

  1. The leaves have already fallen here from a lot of trees but it's 81 degrees right now. I don't want to think about winter. I have all of the batteries in a drawer in the office but would like them more organized. I need to look around and see what I have to put them in. I haven't done much to prepare for winter. I'm in denial! :-)

  2. I have a drawer for batteries, but your storage container is a good idea.
I love it when I can remove the screens and have a clear view through the
windows too. Another reason to love Fall!

    1. Yep, I want to see those beautiful seasons! I was browsing your Pinterest boards the other day. We are so alike in our taste now if I could just fix up my house as cute as yours!

  3. We have a Rubbermaid shoe box type container with a lid, it works perfect. I washed a window today!! AND one yesterday moving like the speed of a turtle, but one a day is about what my shoulder can handle! I will be busy with leaves every few days now until they have all fallen from the trees. Your Mums are so pretty! :)

    1. I do the same thing.....one room at a time with the windows and with me it's the arthritis...everywhere but I'm still moving so that's good! I would think the raking would REALLY be hard on the shoulder. Take that easy too! I hope you have a blower or something for them.

  4. We used to keep them in a drawer under my bookcase. But our grandchildren can now open the drawer. I put them in a plastic shoe box in my linen closet. It is a messy pile of batteries, but they are all in one place and out of reach of little hands. Yours look so organized in that container.

    1. That is exactly why I knew I needed to do it as I put them up high when the grands were here but I thought I could be a little better organized! My house is not childproof but I try!

  5. We keep ours in the refrigerator in the garage. They stay fresh a lot longer if stored in a cold place. Cold, not freezing.

  6. We just use a plastic bin with a lid for batteries. It's stored in the garage. The husband had me buy some more 9V b/c he wants to change the smoke detectors in the house.

  7. I have our batteries in a basket that fits into a cubbie that really can't be used for much anything else. It's worked so far.

    1. I wanted something waterproof with all the humidity here and easy to grab for the car if I ever need to leave in a hurry. Floods, forest fires, etc....not that I think we'll get any but who knows now a days?
