Wednesday Winnings!

We've had so much rain that my door mat started sprouting!  Aren't they cute?

Here's the "big picture"............
It was raining this morning and the house is so damp I made a little fire in the fireplace as I could not bring myself to turn the heat on in May in the south!  It was 58 when I got up this morning and is the perfect temperature for working outside except.....it's raining! LOL!
I won a drawing from Kristin Nicholas that she held on her blog.  It wasn't any of her books but it was a really cool one by Rebecca Ringquist who is a famous "stitcher" that even Susan B. Anderson took a class from and here it is in book form!  Am I lucky or what?  Thank you Kristin for having the drawing!
She embroiders just about anything ON anything and how freeing is that?
She takes vintage linens and embroiders on top of them and turns them into a completely new and different item.  There are many vintage linens I have that I hate to part with but they could definitely stand to be "refurbished".  I'm loving this idea!
She is definitely an artist when it comes to this medium of thread and cloth and you know how I hate to trash things if they can be resurrected at all.  She does a beautiful job of it too.  Look what she did with old patches
Or how about doilies being "reborn"?
The book includes a pre-stamped sampler to work on as part of the "workshop" and I think it is the same one she uses in her class as it looks like the one Susan B. Anderson worked on when she took Rebecca's workshop.  So many projects!  So little time!  But what fun I am having!  In between chores, of course.
I've been doing a little granny square work in the evenings as I have the pattern memorized and I can watch t.v. while working on them.....perfect!  I'm using Deramore's Stylecraft DK in all it's glorious many colors.  I am definitely an "eclectic" gal as I love mixing not matching.
Stop in tomorrow as Sue, The Book Fairy, came over, I got a new quilt pattern and my treasures  supplies, arrived by UPS a few minutes ago!  There will be no more "chores" done today! LOL!
I'm slowly catching up with blogging and visiting my blogger friends.  If I haven't been by, I will but until then.....Happy Trails!

  1. Congrats on winning. My garden is all in now, so I plan to do some crocheting.

  2. Good for you! I wish I could garden here but I just do containers and after all...it is just me, myself and I! LOL! But I'm glad I did all that when my children were growing up and now a days it's even more important to have your own food supply for those growing youngsters! With pesticides and GMO's....and company farms who treat their animals so inhumanely..... it's coming to roost for those companies and even restaurants and they are being exposed. I do my part by being an armchair activist and sharing and signing petitions on FB. It works too!
I can't wait to see your crochet!

    1. Oh Helen, I thank you for stopping by. I need to get over and catch up with you and I have finally dusted off my sewing machine and am ordering supplies and fabric and trims. I have the urge to sew and just need to get the universe alligned just right so I can! LOL! I bet you have been making beautiful things and I can't wait to see them! You give me inspiration now I just need motivation. Actually, I would love to drop everything and just sew but today is mow in between showers and yesterday was groceries and the laundry and food to prepare and by them I'm too tired. Like a hamster on a treadmill! LOL! But when I do finally sew something....you will be the first to know! Hope all is well at your home. xxxooo

  4. It's unseasonably warm here in the northwest...83 F a little while ago. Most unusual for May, so instead of heating we're thing AC. :-) Love your granny's and I'm looking forward to seeing your treasures.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. Wow, isn't that crazy? I have to get lots done outside as we have 1 more day of "cool" and then the humidity is moving in and my AC will be cranked up too! Happy Memorial Day weekend!

    1. Yep, we have some cool temps now (40's this morning and I'm loving it). In fact we set a record low temp. But it won't last and the heat and humidity will be coming right around the corner. I have outside work all summer though regardless....painting and some more landscaping so i must go dig out my "sweat bands"! LOL! I am going to squeeze in some sewing though!

  6. We need your rain. California is begging for it on hands and knees. That looks like a cool book. I can't wait to see you get started on that sampler. The little Granny squares are cute. You do what you can when you can. I'm keeping that in mind as I'm back in the blogging world.

    1. The weather seems to be "feast or famine" across the nation right now. I subscribed to your blog...finally. I was trying to "follow" but you have a different blog and it uses "bloglovin" which I don't understand but I'm subscribed now so hopefully that will keep me "in the loop". LOL!
