Time's flying and I'm trying! WIP's and my favorite Fall sandwich recipe......

It was WIP  Wednesday and here it is supper time already and I haven't even blogged!  I only do my handwork in the evening when my legs are too tired to go anymore.  Thanksgiving is on the horizon and I have house guests coming, hopefully,  if the weather holds (theirs, not mine! LOL!).  Walking daily and my journaling in the morning takes about 2 hours right there.  But here's what I've been working on when I haven't been doing other things.
Bedroom lighting wasn't good with the sun down but here are 3 squares done in my Ordinarily Extraordinary blanket designed by Dottie Angel who I linked to in my last post.
I also started and finished my teeny tiny granny squares done in crochet thread for a bookmark.  I'm going to do several of these for Christmas presents.  I still need to weave and join and block.  I'd like to actually do different colors like granny squares in blankets but I need to order more thread.  I've never done anything this small but it sure is a frugal way of doing handwork!
Here are some of the views from my walk today....it was "brisk" out...just like I like it!

Years ago, I used to lunch occasionally at a restaurant called The Soup Kitchen, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where they served this.  I am not a sandwich person usually but this is my favorite sandwich (along with grilled cheese, of course).  It's so easy and so tasty!
I used my homemade bread, sliced smoked turkey breast, some sliced Havarti Cheese, slices of Granny Smith apples and before you put it together slather both pieces of bread with apple butter.  YUMMO!  I always toast my bread first but that's not necessary.
The restaurant used to serve it with a bowl of white chile.  I'll be sharing that recipe another day.  Enjoy this Fall favorite of mine.!

  1. Your blanket and bookmarks will be gorgeous. You left a comment on my blog about the potatoes and yes, they are members of the deadly nightshade family. I understand the potatoes must always be covered by 4 to 6 inches of soil and that green potatoes shouldn't be eaten. But once harvested we eat them the next day. I will have to look up about curing them, which you mentioned. Also, I read a Lewis Grizzard book and it was a hoot.

  2. Love the squares, I need to go read up on your other posts to get the link. I've been lazy in keeping up, I apologise. Love the cute little squares and they would look great in different colours. The sandwich looks yum!

  3. Your blanket squares are looking great. I've just started a knitted log cabin blanket. As though I need another project when I've got a lot of WIPs! It's fun and easy to do though when watching Dexter on the tv. Those little bookmarks are such a great idea for pressies. Nice to see your lovely countryside. Xx

  4. I love making tiny granny squares. They are so cute. The sandwich looks delicious. I saw a recipe online, where it uses pears on a sandwich. Yummy.

  6. I can see why that sandwich is a favorite-yum!
Your projects will make great gifts. I always love a gift made with love by a friends own hands.

  7. I love that Dottie Angel blanket. Yours seems to be coming along nicely and the bookmarks will be lovely little gifts. I've not been making much lately but need to get back into the swing of things. Sometimes the creative juices aren't flowing freely. Actually, before tomorrow, I need to finish with the cover of my Kitabi project and write all the quotes so I can finish up at the last Art for Adult class tomorrow after school. Yikes! Plus, I'm committed to rearranging the tv room since I bought two new bookshelves yesterday. Something I've been wanting to do for a very long time. Will finally get organized with some of my craft stuff so I can do more creative stuff, like papercrafting, etc. Your walks look wonderful -- brisk is good! We will have brisk weather at some point. Right now it is just really pleasant and that's good after the infernal heat. My boss flies into Cedar Rapids every year for the recruiting fair at the University of Iowa. We usually hire at least 6 or more teachers from there. :) Have a super Saturday. Tammy
