Tidbits on Tuesday.................

It seems I can never catchup especially this time of year!  I mowed this  morning and this afternoon I paid bills....it's almost 5:30 and I still need to make supper, take a bath and I'd like to make a dessert but not sure I'll have the strength! LOL!
I did get some things in the mail though that are VERY special...... to me anyway.  As you all know by now, I want to go back to the little farm town where I spent part of my childhood and every summer until I went to college.  It's called Hanover and it's in the Northwest corner of the state of Illinois in Jo Davies County, U.S.A.   Anyway, there is a wonderful gentleman who has "taken up the cause" and loves Hanover as much as I do when you look at all the work he's done.  I purchased the following books from him that he published from scrapbooks that his Mother maintained her whole life and research that he did himself.
There are lots of pictures in this one of people I remember from my childhood and many of my own relatives.  I haven't had time to sit down and read it but you can bet I will tonight!
This is the second edition of Who's Who in Hanover.  I already had the first edition and this one is the second one that was just finished last year.  I think this is so neat and have never heard of any town ever doing this before.  Does anyone out there know of other towns or communities that do this?  I'm so blessed that the one I love does!
These 2 books  ( I didn't photograph the first one as both books look the same) are biographical sketches of people who lived in Hanover at one time or another and have passed away.  This one goes from March 1, 1980 to April 25, 2011.  I wonder if there will be someone around to carry this on after Terry is gone.  I certainly hope so...he is a treasure and doesn't even live there now but continues doing it.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart Terry!
Terry and his wife, Maxine, did the coloring book too.  Terry wrote and designed it while Maxine drew and illustrated it.  It is a great book!  It's filled with history and historical places.  I am such a "happy camper" to own these treasures and that they even exist!  I also got an email the other day that The Field Museum in Chicago is sending out a research team of biologists to spend the summer in Jo Davies county and Hanover as there are original prairies there that they want to study.   I beleive it too!  Last year there was a farm for sale near Hanover that still had a stagecoach trail visible on their property and that they had preserved and never plowed.  I told you this place was special and not just because I think so.  Obviously others do too! I just don't want it to get so special that I can't afford to move back there!  LOL!

I am now heading off to take a bath and get the DEET off of me, get my "jammies" on and then it's supper and curling up with my books and a "cuppa"...caffeine free of course at this time of night!  I hope your Tuesday was tremendous and thank you all for your wonderful comments.  You make my days!
P.S.  I'm starting to plan my Memorial Day Festivities and I've got the dessert picked out!  Go take a look at Michael's Pink Malted Milk Ball Cake on Inspired By Charm   He made it for his Mother for Mother's Day and I want one! LOL!  It sounds and looks fabulous....oh, I better eat as I am really hungry now thinking about that cake!  BYE!!!!!!!!!!

  2. That really is very cool that someone cares enough about where they came from to do all that research and make a book. My uncle did the same kind of thing with our family tree (my dad's side of the family). He made a book of all his research. I imagine my dad must have one but he doesn't talk to me so guess I'll never get it.

I can't seem to keep up these days either. I give up!

Hope your day is wonderful. Tammy

  3. Hi Sam,
You must be a really good at typing. I would love to wrtie nice long posts like you do but, there are only so many hours in the day and I can't type fast enough.
How nice that you have those books. I guess most of us want to go home. We drive back to my home town at least once a year. Its only a couple of hours from here.
Your lawn looks nice, it does take a lot of work, especially this time of year. You sure do a lot if you ask me.
If I come to your house for coffee I might like to sit at a different table then the one with the pick ax, in case I said something that might upset you, not a good place to be.
Yes I do have a couple of books about my home town, but not as nice as yours.Fun to read.
Stop working so hard, you make me look lazy.
