YOP Week #10

This has been a pretty good week.  I'm keeping things balanced between all my interests and goals.  I didn't do much cross stitch but I did get my yarn order in the mail!  Get this........Amazon takes 2 weeks.....Deramores from the UK takes 1 week....yes, Amazon basically blackmails you if you don't get Prime.  They hold your packages hostage for a week or more before they mail it out.  I can tell because they don't charge you for it until they ship it.  I will not be shopping with Amazon if I can help it.  I use Walmart and I get free shipping and 2 day delivery and I don't have to pay $12 a month for it!  Greed!  It's everywhere!  BTW Walmart has way more online than they do in their stores...check it out.  Anyway, I digress.....I will now be able to finish my color tipped scarf but while I was waiting for the yarn(s)...I started a washcloth.......Grandmother's Favorite and mine too!  I make mine with 54 stitches before decreasing as apposed to 44 like the pattern calls for.  This will be for my daughter for one of her Advent gifts.  Her favorite color is orange and I had a little bit of variegated left over from another cloth so I used it in the middle.  This should definitely be a finish for next week.
I couldn't stop myself from making a few more Victorian blocks..so fun!  I want to make at least one a week and maybe a dishcloth too as mine are depleted after last Christmas.  I also need to make more scrubbies.
I've been working on my rag rug but the picture didn't turn out so maybe next week.  I have about 4 rows so far at 36" wide and I just sewed a bunch more strips together so more rows!
Do you remember this Maybelle blanket?  It was from last year or the year before?  I ran out of the joining yarn and finally ordered it so I could finish it.  I loved making this blanket.  I'm doing Join As You Go (JAYG) method of connecting the squares.  I did one and had to redo it but I have the gist of it now.  The squares were all done ages ago......it's just a small baby blanket or throw.  I have lots of old furniture to cover up so it will come in handy! LOL!
My acquisitions looked like this...........I tried to order yarns that would match my cross stitch blanket picture....I hope I got enough to do some more squares.  This is all Stylecraft DK acrylic yarn...
and I got some sock yarn (wool and nylon)...........West Yorkshire Spinners "Goldfinch" from their bird series.......I see a cast on in my future!
I'm really wanting to clear up some WIPs and get some finishes under my belt.  My goals for YOP for this next week are to finish the color tipped scarf, the Maybell blanket and the dishcloth.  I want to cast on the socks and do some cross stitch.
This week has been productive all around the house.  It's awfully hot here but I go out early for yard work which lately has just been hanging clothes out on the line and watering.  I did call and have the appliance repair people out and I need a new mother board for the dryer and it will cost about $400 total.  A new dryer (I checked the cheapest one) would have cost over $500 with installation and hauling the old one away.   This should be like a new dryer anyway by the time they get done.  They had to order the part so I'm still having to hang outside.  Maybe by next week.
I've been making some headway on household projects like "back burner" ones and WIP's in that category too.  This week I'm hoping to paint the garage steps and wash and use "Restore" on the kitchen cupboards.  That goes for all cupboards in the house and probably the doors too (it might take more than 1 week).
The grands are going to a "Grief Camp" which helps children process their grief ( I wish they had one for Grandma's!)  But they need some clothing items of Jim's to make a Memory Pillow so I picked out a few things and mailed them off Friday.  I've washed everything of his so that wasn't a problem.  Staying busy really helps.  I hope you had a good week.
Happy Trails!!!

  1. Hi Sam :) Your washcloth colour is so pretty! Amazon...I have no comment. But...I did notice that anything coming from the UK comes so much faster. Even through Thriftbooks! Grief camps sounds like such a sad place...but I'm sure it'll help the kids. Take care in that heat. xx

    1. I'm too cheap to pay for Prime but that's just me....more money for yarn! LOL! Grief Camp should be fun for them as they keep it light but they bring up topics that children sometimes are afraid to ask the adults who are grieving. I'm not used to all of this as my generation and the one before especially were just plain stoic. Not sure that was good either as we probably have issues and lots of them but I prefer to just "deal with it"...and work through it. I don't feel comfortable talking in depth about my feelings but that's just me. I let you all know so you would be aware but death is as much a part of life as birth so like the Brits say "Keep calm and carry on". There are still others so much worse off like in the Bahamas, Yemen, Syria....it's a rough world out there!

    2. After my boyfriend of one year broke up with me, I could barely speak without crying. I felt blindsided and didn't know what to do. I didn't know if I could get him back and the anxiety was unbearable. I needed him back desperately because i loved him so much. So i contacted this great spell caster for help. He helped me cast a return love spell on him and just within 48 hours my boyfriend came back to me crying and begging for my forgiveness. Dr Larry released him to know how much i loved and wanted him. And He also opened his eyes to picture how much love we have share together. As I am writing this testimony right now i am the most happiest woman on earth. 2. Wow, that dishcloth is very pretty. Love that orange variegated yarn in the middle. The Victorian Lace squares are very addictive to make. They don't take much time either. How big will your rag rug be when completed?

I think grief camp is a grand idea for children but I agree, there should be one for adults too. Grief counseling just isn't the same as a camp. Neither are grief groups. Guess that is why I just "work thru it" myself with the help of God.

    1. Thank you, Marsha and thank you for sharing the Victorian Square pattern...I love it and it is so enjoyable. My rag rug will probably be 1 yard wide and 1 1/2 yards long. I'll probably put it in front of my sink and see what it looks like.
I am like you....I literally "work" through it and "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".

  3. I imagine a grief camp to be a place of respite and sorting through some things. I would imagine there are adult versions (or maybe there are just support groups). I hugged you, though when I read that. Did you feel it come through cyberspace? I remember your Maybelle squares! I started some, too and have been thinking of picking it up again. Someday... Your's is looking so sweet, Sam. We've had Amazon Prime for several years now. I had no idea it took two weeks to get something ordered from there without it. Nothing ordered online takes that long anymore! Yowza! That's a lot of nerve on their part. I hope you have a good week, friend. Cooler weather's a comnin'!

    1. I did feel your hug and just knowing you and others are out there praying and holding me close in your thoughts has helped tremendously. A grief counselor from the hospital called and left a message (I wasn't even home yet) but when I called back he was on vacation. They didn't recommend anyone else and he has never called back so I figured God and I could handle it and so far so good. I sleep well, eat well, and I'm not "depressed" although I still cry like once a day for some reason...I'm sure that will stop at some point. Having a strong faith is a git that keeps on giving. I never feel alone...ever. And I know God has put you and others in my life too. Thank you so much!
I didn't know you started a Maybelle...I probably did but just forgot. Yes, get it out and enjoy! I love working on it...one of my faves! I may do another one someday but bigger or maybe a pillow cover? Yes, I am really looking forward to REAL Fall when it gets here!LOL! You have a good week too my friend!

  4. Love the colour of your washcloth I have to make some too as when I went to gift one last week I noticed I have only 2 left. Love the victorian blocks it is good to have something that takes a short time to and no looking at the pattern all the time.

    1. Yes, the dishcloths and the crochet squares are always and enjoyable "go to"! HAve a great week!

  5. Hi Sam, I make my grandmothers favorite dishcloths a little bigger than the pattern too. I like a more substantial dishcloth. We joined prime this month because they kept bugging us about it, Dennis needed a lot of set up things for the new trailer, and I was tired of the week or longer "hostage" situation you described. But, although this month was free, we still haven't received one single thing in two days. Most of it has been at least a week or longer! I'm cancelling it.
I hope you have a wonderful week. It sounds like you're getting a lot done as usual. I really like your Maybelle blanket and I do remember it.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. I'm so sorry you're not getting your things when you paid for Prime! I hope they come soon. Some of these companies (people) get greedy and too big for their britches! I remember when Amazon started and I liked them and Jeff Bezo seemed like a decent human being but now he's greedy and powerful and he also had an affair and left his wife....so sad how too much money and/orpower can destroy people. I know that's why God never gave me too much...probably knew I wouldn't handle it well! LOL!
You have a good week too!

  6. Hiya Sam, Love those Victorian Squares...I cannot add anything to my craft list now...ha ha:) You are making great progress on all your projects. I do have a join as you go granny square afghan in the works...I just carted it upstairs last week...it is on hold! Doesn't that sound better than hidden away or out of sight out of mind!
Hope your dryer is like new and last a good long time after that big of a repair bill...good thing you have a clothes line...I would be draping stuff over tree limbs.
Grief Camp so glad the kids get to go maybe they will share what they learned. I need a LIfe Camp...but plan to go to a scrapbook (craft) retreat at the end of the month like I usually do in September
Take good care of yourself. Sending you a hug! :)

    1. I love to see what you do at craft camp! If I ever get up North (I will..hopefully before I die or get sick) I will sign up for it too and we can meet there! Yes, "on hold" sounds better and I have to "dig" things out too. But not too much at once! LOL! The dryer isn't fixed yet but hopefully the part comes in soon. I have realized I need to make life as easy as possible on myself so I can have time to do other things..like get ready to move. BTW. I ordered some of that Wet and Forget mold and mildew remover? Did it work for you? I hope all is well with you and Gene. I saw you were going to get some big storms this weekend? Stay safe! It is still hot here for another week I guess but we did get some rain the other night so no 'fire danger'. Sending a hug back to you!

  7. I appreciate your candor in sharing your journey through grief. You get soooo much done every week and such a variety of crafts and chores. Yes a grief camp for elders would be well appreciated I think. Much love and strength coming your way through the blogosphere.

  8. I don't shop Walmart, if I can help it. I hadn't been on Amazon in awhile. but did it recently for the teacher clearthelists campaign...which I also joined Twitter...which I said I'd never do....sigh...I have Prime, but have no idea how...we are not charged for it, that I can see....it might be a package deal with something else....I know I don't pay Amazon for it....I get infusions for psoriatic arthritis. I've been getting them for about three years now. It really helps keep the pain at bay...I still will have flare-ups or painful days, especially if it is going to rain or close to the end of the cycle...but I was at the point before the infusions of hardly being able to walk some days....

    1. Walmart is about the only game in town here and even that is 1/2 hour away. Lucky you with free Prime! I used to inject myself twice a week with Enbrel for my RA but I am in remission and have been for quite awhile PTL because I almost went bankrupt paying for those shots! I'm glad you have something that works for you. Stay strong!

  9. Love all your projects this week! I'm glad there is such a thing as grief camps, but I agree, adults need support too. {{cyber hugs}} Your dishcloth looks class (and useful) and I particularly love your Victorian squares and the Maybelle. Have a great week!

  10. Thank you and it's a mutual admiration society! I am joining the Blaithin (?) CAL 9/16 and the Nature's Walk CAL on 9/24.....yes, I am a sucker for blankets but those are both gorgeous. I will use stash for the Blaithin and I'll see how much Stylecraft I have for Nature's Walk although I am tempted to splurge on a kit...I'll see. How are you doing yours? Thank you for the cyber hugs and back at you!
