Stitch Maynia Day #17 and #18

I thought I had better blog now as storms are headed in our direction.  I forgot to show you the hand pies I made!  I used a recipe from All Recipes by Chef John.....he has the best recipes!
Before baking..........
 After baking.........
These are great for me as opposed to a whole pie.  I love them!  These are apple and only required 2 apples...I have 3 apples left so I might make some more this afternoon.  I want to make other fruits too...........yummo!
As for Stitch Maynia Day #17..........Snow Days...another free pattern from Glory Bee
Still loving my 'railroading' of the stitches.
Stitch Maynia Day #18....tomorrow's the last day for me......it's been so much fun!  Then on to finishing all of them before next year's Maynia!  Another Glory Bee design and Halloween...one of my favorites to stitch.......
That 'railroading' is looking pretty nice if I do say so myself
Wednesday I mowed, Thursday I planted herb plants and I have been splitting my time between cleaning inside and yard work and gardening(container) outside....a little Spring 'sprucing up'...........
I potted up 2 basil plants, a cilantro, flat leaf parsley, thyme and mint.  The only safe place for plants...my front porch...........
and sadly...the last of the peonies...........so lovely to look at and to smell.....
There's a tornado watch until 8:00 p.m. for only 2 counties in AR......mine and the one next to me which I border.....not a good sign........I just moved the truck up close to the garage door to protect Nitty.  The girls used to always go down in the basement with me but Nitty can't do stairs anymore and I can't lift her, so we pray!  I also have the weather radio on.
Have a safe and cozy Saturday night where you are!
Happy Trails!!!

  1. I will be praying for safety for you and the girls tonight. Those storms can be terrible. The hail we used to have in the midwest did more damage than people realize.
The hand pies look delicious and I wanted to tell you that I watched a video on "railroading". Quite informative and I plan to use that technique next time I do a cross stitch project.
    Happy Saturday!!!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. I hope you like the 'railroading'...I do it with 2 strands so I haven't tried it with more than that. Those hand pies are the bees knees especially using Chef John's recipe on All Recipes.
BTW...we did fine in the storm...the weather radio never went off and the worst only lasted about 15 minutes and then just rain and thunder all night but no warnings. Thank you for your prayers!

  2. So much energy and industriousness, Sam! I am impressed with your focus and how much you get done. That's a beautiful wreath on your front door, btw. :) Okay... I looked up railroading after your last post and I was intrigued. I tried it with my three strands of DMC and I kept getting it tangled. Not every time, but often enough that I decided that was for the birds. (No offense). I'm glad it's working for you. I wonder if I was doing something wrong, or if it doesn't work so neatly with three strands, or if the Fancy Floss is different and makes for easier railroading. What a funny name. At first I thought it might have something to do with the way the stitches look on the back of the fabric when one lays down the stitches one direction, then comes back down the row finishing up the X's. Little did I know that people make their X's in all sorts of fashions. I stopped cross stitching for twenty years and everything changes! There used to be rules. I kinda like the no-rules approach, but I have to overcome my 4-H experiences (mine and my kids') and assure myself that no one is EVER going to look at the back of my work and grade me.

I look forward to seeing your new starts progress. You were among my inspirations for getting my floss out (and actually buying more).

And Mmmmm... those pies look (and sound) so good! And I'm not even a fruit pie eater. Wonder if one could make small cream pies that way... I don't need to know (in fact, it's best that I not know). I just can't help but wonder, though. I'm praying as I send this that you are kept safe in the storms, friend.

    1. Good grief! I wrote another tome! Sometimes even I'm surprised at my verbosity...

    2. Oh, I am only using 2 strands so the needle goes between the 2 but only on the stitch where you cross from lower right to upper left...the final stitch to make the "x". Also, I stitch each 'cross' individually. Does that help? I'm sorry...I didn't mean to cause you any grief.
Oh, cream pies....I'd forgotten about them! Yummo!
I'm industrious because I'm old and don't know how much time I have left and also because I can function now but who knows how long that will last so I'm trying to tie up all my loose ends around here so if anything curtails me I can sort of handle it or at least things will be de-cluttered and given away etc. I'm reading a great book called The Art of Dying Well. I highly recommend it for anyone who is aging or caring for an aging person. It's a road map for me.
You are organized, I can tell and your house is lovely but mine is not..I have rooms that are full of stuff....some not mine. I need to get a 'move on' so I can 'move on' and enjoy the time left to me doing what I want instead of taking care of a house and yard that is way to big for me. Most people around here hire people to help them. I don't have that luxury so I have to get moved to a place that will be supportive of me and my stages of aging. If I couldn't drive I would be sunk here plus as it is having a doctor an hour and 1/2 away is not good. A retirement area it is not....more like an elephant graveyard!

    3. I'm going to look up this book. I read the Swedish Art of Death Cleaning at your recommendation and while it was a simple book, it was thought provoking. I hear you. I may be a bit behind you in age, but I've definitely hit the point where I give these things thought. You've said some profound things above, Sam. I'm going to ponder them and maybe they will motivate me to kick up my decluttering a notch. FWIW, you only see the pictures I show. I have way too much stuff, and I have rooms that need clearing out. More yarn and books than I have life left in me to get around to. Thinking of that is sobering. We're getting your rains now and they've just about petered out, I think. But it's refreshing and has cooled down considerably. :)

    1. Really, Texas and Oklahoma get the brunt of the bad weather...by the time it gets to us it is usually left it's fury behind in TX and OK. I pray for them every time I hear there's storm because they're usually in the thick of it.
I had a chocolate mint once...it really does taste and smell like chocolate! Lucky you! I hope you had a wonderful Sunday too!

  4. The storms that are hitting the mid-west are brutal. I hope you remain safe. We are getting ready to head to TX. I told hubby those storms need to move on as that is why I no longer live in Kansas or TX! Tornadoes scare the stuffin's out of me. Where we are going has no basement either!

You are doing so well on your stitching. You have quite a bit done on several of them so I am sure you will be able to finish them up by the end of the month.

  5. Stay safe! They never bothered me as I've always had a basement but what bothers me down here is the lack of good weather coverage. It's usually passed or right on top of us by the time they put out a warning. They seem to get worse instead of better with all their fancy satellites and gear.
Oh, I won't be trying to finish them by the end of the month! LOL! The object is to start a new one each day and then hopefully have them finished by next Maynia 2020. I might be able to do that...maybe. As long as some other 'bright and shiny' objects don't divert my attention! LOL!
