News from the homestead:
We had storms but nothing severe like in Mississippi.  My newly replanted clematis got beat down a bit.....I'm going to have to tie them up better.....this was taken before the rain.....they're all down now........but on the bright side they are full of buds getting ready to bloom!
I spent all this morning and until about 1:00 p.m. making breakfast burritos.  If a gal were smart she would cut up and prep one day, cook the filling another day and put the burritos together another day but this gal wasn't too smart.  In my defense it was the first time I made them.............but boy are they time consuming..............and truth be told I'm not sure I like them any better than the frozen ones I bought at the store.
 I scrambled a dozen eggs........and set aside......
then you fry up sausage and onions and garlic and add in tomatoes, cilantro and spices plus my homemade taco seasoning (and to think I thought of actually making the flour tortillas myself too....thank goodness I talked myself down from that ledge!)  and after it cools you add the cheese.........

then you wrap wrap them up 'burrito style'........I cannot tell a lie.....I had to watch several You Tube videos to get the hang of it............there were 20
then you wrap them in plastic wrap and put them in a gallon freezer bag or 2 and label it with date, item and directions for cooking.........then you go try and find room in your freezer.  The reason I wanted to make these is because in the Summer when it gets HOT here ...and I mean HOT as in JUNGLE HOT AND STEAMY,  you have to get out early in the morning to get any work done so these would be a quick easy breakfast without wasting any time.
I'm not sure I'll make them again...like I said.......the ones I got from the store tasted pretty darn good!
Plus, my time is valuable....I'm retired!
I lied last week when I said the red buds were in bloom.....maybe but not full bloom!  These are the same trees from last week.......... not sure what that contraption is in front of them...It looks like some kind of a trap but I was too tired to walk over there and investigate.....

The dogwoods are blooming and right in my back yard!  Since the electric company trimmed back there I see all kinds of things now!
I hope you all survived the storms of all kinds and I hope the sun shines on you very soon!
Happy Trails!!!

Please stop by and see all the other fantastic projects that other  YOP'ers are working on.
Happy Trails!!!

  1. I miss a week and here you are finishing everything! Your cross stitch looks brilliant, I still adore those tulips. Think of all those wips you can now turn your hand to - or all of those new projects you can start!

  3. I know just what you mean when you say making something "en masse" like the breakfast burritos take so much time. But! Just look how many breakfasts you now have ready and waiting without any preparation. Besides, your ones with homemade ingredients are truly better for you than the store bought ones that probably have some "added" ingredients you don't want! Now would you come and help us eat some of those way-too-many stuffed green peppers I slaved over making last fall?!

  4. Your cross stitch finishes are terrific, Sam. I look forward to seeing what you will do with those. And the colors in your latest Hexi Pickle Dish are so pretty. And oh my! Your breakfast burritos look amazing. You are going to enjoy those later! Love all your flowering pictures.
It's turned beautiful here, too, this weekend. Looking out my living room window is a treat of Magnolia trees in bloom, along with some white blooming tree (possibly dogwoods?). And my yellow forsythia bush is in its glory. I need to get out to the wildlife refuge area where I enjoyed so many walks last year. It probably looks really lovely right now.

  5. Will you be framing your XS? They really look so nice and I can only imagine how wonderful they will look once totally complete! I am so happy your sock is coming along so nicely. It must give you so much confidence in your sock knitting. The pickle dish is wonderful. I can hardly wait until there are enough to start sewing together. I admire you for making the breakfast burritos. You have rolled them perfectly too. My hubby, who is 1/2 Mexican, still can not roll a burrito. His mom and I just shake our heads LOL. I might give making some of those in advance for our breakfasts. Store bought flour tortillas are so much thinner than what you will make at home. I make home made flour tortillas if they are going to be used as a 'spoon' for our meal. If I want to roll a burrito, I buy them as they roll so much better!

  6. I love dogwoods - they make me feel so at home, but I don't see many of them around anymore. Good job on the burritos. It is so great to have good food ready for when you want it.

  7. My 2 favourite cross stitches finished, I look forward to seeing what new surprises you are working on, when you are able to share them. My problem with making advance food is I’d start eating them any time I wanted a snack so would end up eating 2 or 3 a day. A great idea though.

  8. Love the finished cross stitch projects Sam and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with them to finish finish them. The buritos sound yummy but also like a lot of work and if the shop bought ones taste just as good I think I'd opt for those and use my time on something more enjoyable!

  9. Thank you for stopping by last week - wowzers you are busy! and those little hexies (appear to be such tiny work); your cross stitching looks beautiful (years ago I crossstitched) - your dogwoods blooming are a good reminder to me that spring is a coming!!

  10. I think Dennis would like those burritos but I understand about the work. He loves burritos for his lunch and I made them once. Only once because he said the storebought ones tasted the same. For much cheaper and a LOT less work. I love that Pumpkin Spice cross stitch. It's beautiful.
Sorry haven't been around this week. I've been visiting with my sister and stayed off of the computer for the most part. Hopefully I'm back now. Take care Sandra.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. Your cross stitch is gorgeous. And now I'm hungry for burritos! (I'd have the same trouble as you finding room in my freezer.)
