YOP Week #43

It's been quite a week.....storms, rain,  and my porch roof is leaking again!  There went my 'craft weekend' again.  The 'roof boys' came over Saturday morning to look at it and checked everything...they'll be back Tuesday but that took me until 2:00 in the afternoon after getting a late start and not having eaten anything so I made a big breakfast and that ended up being supper!  The Hotel of Bees CAL is going and I am on Row  6.  Every row is different and some are a real learning curve but I am moving forward and it does help to have the support of the other CAL members and even Christina, the designer, gets on and answers questions which is great.  This is all I have so far but I am enjoying it and some of the shawls are finished and/or further ahead and it is very inspiring to see theirs.
I finished my first Hermione's Everyday sock and have just about finished the cuff on the 2nd sock....it's going much better and faster this time.
I was going to paint on my new paint-by-number painting this weekend but that didn't happen but I did gather my brushes and read the directions.  I'm just wondering if I need an easel to work on it or maybe I can jury-rig something as it is BIG!

I've been really tired this week as the storms woke me up on 2 different nights.  I think I need to get more than cafe curtains as even little Annie was trying to move her bed in the night to get away from the 'strobe light' lightening.....it was really intense.  The week ahead is going to be busy as the lawn needs mowing again and there's weeding and painting outside to be done.  I hope you had a good week and I'll try and catch up with everyone this week.  I hope I get some energy too!
Happy Trails!

  1. So sorry to hear your roof is leaking yet again. Hopefully this week will be the last needed fix. Your CAL sounds wonderful and I am looking forward to watching your progress. I am happy your knitting mojo is back with your Hermione socks. Just how big is that paint by number? We have black out roller shades in our bedroom as our thunderstorms are quite bright when they happen.

    1. I know...I figure God isn't wanting me to move North just yet! LOL! It;s something around the chimney they think but they can't seem to find where it's coming in. Yes, I too was very happy about the knitting mojo! The painting is 20" X 14" so it's a good size! I was thinking about shades to pull down....I need to look into that.

  2. Hi Sam :))) Oh gosh, not the roof again...I hope they find the problem! We don't get dozens of thunderstorms, but when we do, I know what you mean about the strobe light lightening! Our bedroom is a fortress of darkness because both Alex and I are really sensitive to sound, so if you add light to that, we never get enough sleep. We can't always control the sound, but we can definitely control the light! We have light-proof drapes that we actually have stapled all around the window sill...nope, we can't open the bedroom window lol...but we sleep just fine!

I like using an easel to paint, but you don't need one if you have room on a table. I know lots of people who paint on tables, less running paint that way. Your painting looks like it'll be lots of fun Sam! Very cool :)

It'll be a busy week around here too, we're finally getting nice sunny mild weather, so I'll be out in the yard starting to clean things up! I'm sending you some of my energy! Hope it makes it your way!!! :))

    1. Glad to know I can use a table and don't have to have an easel. I never thought about the running paint....good idea! Yes, I think I will get some shades to pull down but just during storms. I get moon light when there is a moon and I love how it shines in my room at night. I can sleep through most except the lightening. Oh, I have to come over and see your 'yard straightening'....mine always gets away from me...the weeds are a foot tall now...I need a gardener! LOL! Enjoy your nice weather!

  4. I'm so sorry to hear about your leak. I do hope you can have it repaired soon. The shawl beginning looks great and the paint by numbers looks intimidating to me! I do hope the storms stay far away and you're able to get more rest.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. Oh man, dang roof. Sorry it's still givin' you troubles. That is a lovely start to your Bee shawl. You did such a great job on your first Hermione.
Thank you so much for your sweet concern; I'm sorry you got misled a bit. My surgery's been put off b/c there was a big power outage in SF. So I'm going to schedule it after Mother's Day weekend. I'm glad I don't have to worry about whether or not I can eat for my nephew's Red Egg & Ginger party that's the first Saturday of May. I will be oinkin' out on good' ol' Chinese food, something we don't eat very often here in the burbs.

  9. I'm so sorry to hear about your roof, Sam! How discouraging. I hope the repair isn't too expensive. The Hotel of Bees shawl is still calling to me. It's so interesting looking, but something keeps holding me back. Can't wait to see more of yours. ;^) The paint by number will be such a pretty picture when it's done. You've probably had too much on your mind and just forgot, but I didn't see your link on the YOP thread this week. So glad I'm subscribed to your blog! ;^)
