YOP Week #40

Only 12 more weeks left??????  Oh my!  I better get a move on!  I was wondering the other day why I have so many WIPs and I finally figured it out.  I start working on a project for me or for gift giving and then a holiday comes up and being a grandmother I feel it's my duty to do something for the grands.   So,  I put my projects down and start something for them.  I have 3 grands and then my own children who I like to give a little something to also.  I have great intentions but just when do I think I am going to get all this done?  This from the slowest person on the planet!  Now, what do I do about it?  I haven't quite figured that  out yet.
I have reserved weekends for crafting so I am hoping that helps......here are some Easter projects......
I know...it looks like a hat but it is going to be a bunny and there will be 3 of them total.  This was a kit from Alicia Paulson and it is crocheted but oh is it 'fiddly'!   You increase until you get 102 sc and then you start the striping but the yarn is splitty and you have to count every row when you're finished to see if you have 102 exactly.  It is taking forever!  It is the slowest crochet project I have ever worked on and I thought I would be okay with crochet!  Not!  There is no way I will have 3 bunnies done by Easter.....this is how it happens....all those WIPs! LOL!
So then I thought I would whip up some eggs for egg trees.............you have to count these rounds too!
Then I spotted this darling Easter wall hanging over at A Little Happy Place that I thought I could just whip 4 of them off (one for me too) and that would cover the whole family along with some Easter "treats"...........I thought it was just too cute and it's a "mini" wall hanging......I can do this!
So, I have spent all weekend and I am not even half done but I am enjoying getting back to sewing and Easter is a ways away so maybe there's hope?  I got everything cut out yesterday for the 4 "mini's".........
and I started sewing it together yesterday and more today...........but it always takes a lot more time than I think  it will.........but I will "carry on"!

I've been steadily working on my Beatrix Potter blanket in the evenings as it is the only project I have right now that doesn't require concentration!  I need to use a progress keeper as it seems I have been working on that pink stripe for forever!
I need to place an order with Deramores and get the 3 new Stylecraft Special DK colors (available April 7th) plus my yarn to finish the Maybelle blanket...remember that one?  They are 'vintage' colors...Mushroom, Buttercup and I can't remember the 3rd color plus I need other 'refills' on my favs.  I love Stylecraft Special DK even though it is acrylic it is so soft and nice to work with and with my grands it has got to be washable!  Me too with my girls!  Plus, there's a zillion colors!
Okay........does this look familiar?  Yes, I frogged my Hermione's Everyday socks (I was doing 2 consecutively) and I have started again....stupid or stubborn?  You be the judge!  But I missed knitting and I really think it was because of my son's illness that I just could not focus.  BTW, he is coming along and the prognosis is looking good!  So that being said I am hoping this pair will go better and I really do love knitting socks or am I just a glutton for punishment?
That poor yarn has to be so tired!  I also printed off a free pattern on Ravelry......the famous Vanilla Latte Socks by Virginia Rose-Jeanes.  From what I understand it is like a 'sock recipe' and you can interchange your favorite methods of cuff, heel, etc.  I think I need a sock recipe....it's time has come!
So, that's all for this week folks!  I hope you had a glorious one.  Be sure and check my sidebar as I am continually adding new blogs and sites in categories of Knitting, Crocheting and now Sewing and Quilting too.  I found some great ones out there!  Have a great week and stop by tomorrow for "It's Monday, What Are You Reading, Watching and/or Listening To"!
Happy Trails!

  1. Glad to read your son is doing well. What projects you have going on here. I can't wait to see more of the bunny. Vanilla Latte is a great pattern. You did what you had to do; whatever makes you happy while crafting is the most important.

  2. Hi Sam :) I'm completely flabbergasted by the amount of WIP's you have all going on at the same time. I could never have that many things on the sidelines, it would drive me nuts (probably literally lol)...congratulations on your resolve for the "fiddly" work, another crazy-making craft I wouldn't enjoy! I love your sock recipe, so you're back on the horse! :) Good for you! Stupid? no...stubborn? no...DETERMINED. :)

    1. Thank you, Rain....I am probably a bit nutty about it but I do enjoy it so and so much of my creative spirit was put on hold during my 'family' years that I am really going 'all out' now that I'm retired!

    2. Nutty is good :)...I feel as though I'm making up for lost time and I'm trying to be creative and do fun things...go all out as you say! We need to live every day to the fullest, you sound like you do that and it's really inspiring. :)

  3. Sometimes I get Startitis when I am fretting. It's natural. And I always think I can get more done than is humanly possible... but there simply aren't enough hours in a day. So work on whatever makes you feel good and things get done when they get done. Another strategy is to focus on the projects that can be most readily accomplished... shorten the list as quickly as possible. But if it were me, I'd be sewing those adorable quilts :)

    1. I'm so glad I have friends that can relate! You made me feel so much better as I thought maybe I was really going off the deep end! (I might be anyway....but I feel better about it)...yes, I do tend to start more things when I am already feeling overwhelmed....like spending money when you are in the worst position to do it....so glad I am not alone in my 'issues'! LOL! I appreciate your suggestion too and the mini's are first up!

  4. My dear........you are so sweet, making something for your families for each holiday. I really like that wall hanging. Quilters amaze me. I tried it once and gave up when everything was cockeyed lol. Once you get the rythmn of the Hermione socks down, they will fly off your needles. Your blanket is getting bigger each week. Glad your son is progressing well. That is a great relief for a mother.

    1. Thank you, Marsha. I think because my family is so far away I don't want my grands to forget me! LOL! Plus, I remember my Aunt used to send me things every holiday when I was young and it meant so much to me and made holidays so special and something to look forward to. I hope the Hermione's go well this time....I know they're not difficult so I will take my time and try and not 'goof up' this time....it's no reflection on the pattern....just me! Yes, I am so happy about my son and although it will be a long haul and still could go horribly wrong, I just have to have faith and I do and that makes all the difference!

    1. She has a great website/blog and kits too in her Etsy shop. You only have one to make so it should take as long....I'm making 4, assembly line style! LOL! If not there is one for Christmas too and one for Home...of course.....I want to make all of them eventually as I think they are so cute! I'm trying to scale down on BIG projects and these seem to be doable. Good luck and let me know if you make one! You can use scraps too which is nice. Not a big outlay of money.

  7. You should join Ravelry and our YOP group and then you post on Sunday's like we do....and share it with the group. It's free to join and zillions of free patterns for knitting and crochet. I know you would love it! Our group is for bloggers which you are! So come on along....the group is called Come Blog Along.

  8. Oh, I'm so glad to hear your son is better. I also enjoyed seeing all of your WIP's. It would drive me batty to have that many, but I enjoy seeing yours. :-). I'm glad to see you trying the Hermione socks again. I think one at a time will be much easier. That's how I do mine and really like it. I really like your mini quilts that you're making for Easter. So sweet and "springy" looking.
I laughed out loud at your last comment on my blog. No worries at all. I know that you mean well. If you didn't realize that I had actually broken my back, I can understand your concern at how lazy I've been. Ha!!!! The drive to Montana went well this weekend. We had to stop every hour so I could walk around and stretch the muscles out. I'm so excited to think that I may actually get to go somewhere this summer. :-). Have a lovely Monday my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. I know...can you believe how insensitive I was? I'm so sorry about that...me and my 'helpfulness'....I'm surprised you didn't disown me! Glad you are getting out and that the trip is not too uncomfortable. I bet Montana is beautiful...I love the West but I've never been able to travel around it too much but I have been there several times but not to Montana...CA and CO. I pray you heal perfectly and that you get to enjoy the coming summer! Hugs~Sam

  9. Twelve more week?!? Of this YOP year???? How can it be?!? I really need to update my YOP list. I've just been having too much fun making things to stop and record it.

Okay... just as I was chuckling over your crocheted bunny and having to count every stitch of every row and your exclaiming "This is how it [all those WIPS] happens!", I scroll down and admire the picture of the pretty Easter mini and then see that you've pieced together the tops of three already. That's amazing to me. Those are going to be fun!

I'm glad to read your son is doing better. And glad that you've decided to retry knitting the Hermione socks. Your giving up seemed to be more out of frustration than truly not being interested in knitting. I look forward to seeing your new socks. And probably many more made from your new vanilla sock recipe. I have confidence in you! Have a great week, SAM!

    1. I know...when I looked at my YOP list I really haven't done much on it....something shiny and bright catches my eye and I'm off on another tangent! LOL! I would be okay if I didn't look at other blogs or watch podcasts but they are so inspiring! But we're having fun and that's what counts! Thank you for your confidence...it means a lot!
