YOP Week #36

Well, since I frogged like 3 knitting projects last week I have sworn off knitting for awhile.  I have turned to my old standby, crochet and that is probably all you will be seeing for the foreseeable future.  I was feeling lost without some handwork so I turned to one of favorite inspirational bloggers, Alicia Paulson from Posie Gets Cozy.  There's a link on my sidebar to her wonderful blog.  It just so happened she had started a new crochet project inspired by one of my favorites......Beatrix Potter!  She included the simple pattern on her blog and so I gathered my Stylecraft DK colored yarns that most closely resembled hers and off I went!  Here's what I have so far and what a simple and enjoyable pattern it is.  I can even watch T.V.!  Ahhhhhhh......I have found peace in the wilderness.
Here are my colors  in Stylecraft DK using a size F hook.  She called for an E but I didn't have one so F it was!
Here's Alicia' so far.............I love her muted colors and I may have to go to wool yarn eventually in future projects because that's what she always uses and the colors are just more vintage it seems and that is what I am going for.  I want everything I make to look old from the get go! LOL!
I also need to order some cushioned crochet hooks as the metal ones bother me after a while.  All I have are the old aluminum ones from years ago.....antiques by now!
In that same vein, I ordered 2 bunny kits and pattern and a lamb pattern (there were no kits) and the yarn for the lamb.  Easter is coming and it inspired me to make these cute "stuffies" for the grands.  It won't be long until they will be too old to want grandma's handmade toys but so far so good!  I ordered 2 different color schemes for the rabbit so they each will have a unique item and then the lamb.
Aren't they adorable?  I'm excited and feeling much better after a horrible knitting week.....
So, crochet is the name of the game for me.....at least for awhile.....I hope you had a wonderful , inspiring, productive and crafty week!
Happy Trails!

  1. I'm sorry you've had such frustration with knitting. I hope the froggings were cathartic for you. OMGosh! These chubby stuffies are SO cute! I can't wait to see you start on them. I love the muted colors of her crochet blanket; I'm glad you have peaceful hookin' right now.

    1. With the script I am using your comment when I first read it came to me as "I hope the floggings were cathartic for you".....I laughed pretty hard over that one! Of course, on rereading I could see it was "froggings" but it was pretty funny while it lasted! LOL!

    1. This blanket is the Moss Stitch which just a sc and a chain and skip the next chain and repeat until done. At the end of the row you do your last sc, turn, chain 2 and then sc into the first c1 space. You need to show pictures!
Don't tell anyone but I think I will make one of those lambs for myself too.....want one?

  3. I'm still crocheting that granny square baby blanket, ha ha! Although this past weekend was a full-blown house cleaning/organizing/deep cleaning weekend.

    1. I try to just do fun stuff on the weekends as I am pretty self-disciplined throughout the week. I still do maintenance and my daily chores but weekends are RnR here! LOL!

  4. I am a much better knitter than a crocheter. That hook just doesn't fit my hand too well. I love the stuffies. So So Cute.... hugs, LJ

    1. I wish I could say that as crocheting is much more forgiving than knitting but alas all my mistakes are in the knitting category. I love knitting but not continually having to start over because I made a mistake. I truly admire good knitters!

  5. I look forward to watching your Beatrix Potter inspired blanket grow. I do like the sound of that simple pattern - and using stash. It sounds so peaceful. And oh my goodness! Those Lamb and Bunny stuffies are adorable. I hear you on the knitting thing. I'm weighing how seriously I really want to apply myself to it. I've been all over the map since I began trying to be serious about getting better at it last year. I truly do love the textures that come with designs - like your stuffies... I almost almost always prefer crocheted toys to knitted toys. Now, visiting Posie Gets Cozy's blog I will say I'm completely smitten with the sweet sweaters she has made her daughter. Something like that I think I'd love to able to produce. So then I'm back to thinking I really should stick with my simple knitting and see where it goes. For now, I love my knitted dishcloths even if they take a ridiculous amount of time to make. I consider is a very relaxing thing to knit a simple dishcloth. Speaking of cathartic, I got a good laugh over your response to Stefanie - over the floggings. :)

    1. I am feeling like you and I will not give up on the knitting as I really do enjoy it when it's going well! LOL! My Mother used to tell me to walk away from things that frustrated me and give both a "timeout" me and whatever I was working on. It's very good advice but also runs counter to my never ever, ever, giveup attitude. What's a girl going to do? I will probably cast on something very soon but meanwhile the blanket is keeping me grounded! LOL!
I too love those sweaters and would love to make some sweaters or maybe a vest to start for my grand boys....we shall see. I LOVE your knitted dishcloths too!

  6. I like your yarn colours for the Beatrix Potter blanket. It will be a lovely blanket.
Had to chuckle at the stuffies, they are adorable and I look forward to seeing yours when done, and yes, I would like one of each for myself, lol.

    1. You know...it's funny, I was never a "doll" person...quite the Tomboy growing up but as old as I am I am loving these 'stuffies' that are out there....if there is a 2nd childhood I am sure I am in it right now! LOL!

  7. Happy Monday! Love your new blanket colors. I like the more muted colors too. I thought I would tell you that I made my own big handled crochet hooks a year or so ago. I just got some of the polymer clay at Hobby Lobby and squeezed it around a few extra hooks I had in sized I use a lot. When you squeeze it, it conforms to your hand shape. Then you bake them for awhile. I love mine. It make crocheting so much less tiring on the hands. I've been eyeing one of Alicia's stuffies for Piper for awhile but haven't made the purchase yet. Have a lovely day my sweet friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. Hi Sam :) Congratulations on getting back to the needles! :) I found a crochet hook at a bazaar for 5 cents last summer...I never tried to use it, and I don't even know what size it is. It's something I do want to learn though since knitting is perplexing me these days! I love that bunny!

  9. I'm sorry you are not feeling it with the knitting at the moment, but hopefully time out is just what you need. Those projects are gorgeous, the blanket is fabulous and such lovely colours and the stuffies are fantastic, I love them both.
