Thirsty Thursday!

Have I mentioned being interested in Kombucha and making my own?  I first heard about it on Hue Loco's podcast as she makes her own.  She said it is delicious and very good for you and very inexpensive to make.  Well, it just so happened that the next time I went to Wally World there was some Kombucha in their Natural Drink refrigerator section in the produce department!  Who knew?  So, I bought one bottle to see if I would like it and boy do I!!!  One is Gingerade and the other is Gingerberry......yummy!
These are 16.2 ounce bottles which is still expensive at $3.12 a bottle but I did buy some more.  I will have to make my own if I want to keep drinking it! LOL!  It is organic and contains electrolytes, polyphenols, enzymes and probiotics.  The ingredients are as follows: "organic raw kombucha, fresh pressed ginger and 100% pure love!"
They do have a disclaimer: "Please note: Kombucha is a fermented tea that has naturally occurring  alcohol.  Do not consume if you are avoiding alcohol due to pregnancy, allergies, sensitivities, or religious beliefs."
What is really funny is I was reading my Taproot magazine last night and they had an article about it, how to make it and a resource list of suppliers for all you need to make your own.  Coincidence?  I don't think so!  I will definitely be getting on board with this health initiative!
There is lots of information about it on the internet and Pinterest has many recipes and articles on how to start your own "starter".  I may be buying it for awhile though as it takes over a month to get your first batch.  It is going to be so refreshing this summer!  Plus, since I had to stop eating yogurt (doc said to cut out all milk products for cholesterol) I will now be able to get my probiotics this way!
Do any of you drink this?  Do you make your own?  If you do I want to hear all about it and recipes too!
Happy Trails!

  1. I have never heard of Kombucha. Now I need to go and research it. I take a probotic capsule everynight. I was told to purchase it by my RA Dr. It has made a world of difference especially with the drugs I take for my RA.

    1. Do you know I have gotten myself off of all my RA drugs....well, I was really only on 1....Enbrel....very expensive and Ihad severe RA since 1994. It has been almost 1 1/2 years since I've taken it and no RA! The RA doc said I was in remission and that you are never cured.....just like they said I have 'severe' osteoporosis and that I would never get my eyesight back.....WRONG! They've been wrong on all fronts. Once I got all the 'stress' and drama out of my life...I got back to healthy and happy!

  2. I had never heard of it before you mentioned it. It doesn't sound very good but I trust your judgement! :-). I may need to look for it.

    1. I think it's delicious...much better than pop or soda drinks full of sugar. Try it...you'll like it maybe? And it's so good for you!

  3. I've purchased the one on the left. I have yet to make my own, but I should be.

    1. Actually, I thought of you and was surprised you hadn't mentioned it or had your own starter. I'll let you know how it goes....I'll be looking into the suppliers today and the startup cost.

  4. I Sam,
Well that sounds interesting. Good for you and can make you happy all at the same time.
About my chamber pot. My aunt Glenda was at someone's house for a party several years ago and she had tis big pot of chowder in the middle of the table. Glenda said Marge do you know what that is? Well marge took it off the table right away.
Been reading a lot, same as you. Milder here this week, sure looking forward to spring.

  5. Hi Sam :) I've heard of it and seen it in the stores, but never tried it. I didn't know it has so many nice health benefits, it seems so easy to make! I can't wait to read about your progress!

  6. I've never heard of it but I'll look for it. My hubby is drinking all kinds of smoothies and nutritious drinks. It's amazing what you find when you research. We're adding coconut water to drinks too. High in vitamins! Hugs, Diane

    1. I was surprised to see it at Walmart as people here don't seem to be that interested in eating healthy....that's why I don't eat out here.....lots of fried foods! LOL! Once in awhile I will go for a good old greasy cheeseburger and fries but only once or twice a year! LOL!

  7. This is something I have never tried to make nor even tasted it! You've got me interested, though. I need to see about trying to make some as it would certainly be the most economical way to go. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. You might want to buy one first to ensure you like it. I do and I love ginger and I am not a pop drinker at all....don't really like it and never have.

  8. My cousin was addicted to it some years ago and kinda went off the deep end but then again, she's bipolar and has a tendency to do that. The thing is, she is also diabetic, and kombucha isn't so good on your kidneys or good for your sugar level. But most people aren't drinking it all day long. It is very popular here now. I've got a few fermented things I want to try making as well as ginger beer which is supposed to be very good for you, too. All in moderation.

    1. Why is that? Please explain and right now I can't afford to drink it all day nor would I. It is something I have at the end of the day and with my dinner. I have 1 cup of coffee in the morning then orange juice to take my vitimins and then water for the rest of the day. I don't need to start a bad habit! I'm not diabetic or bipolar that I know of! LOL!
