Another book, sales, Christmas cookies and gift making

There was one more book I forgot to tell you about...........
This is the first book in a series of books about a young boy who survives in the wilderness.  It is for middle school age or even 8 or 9 and up maybe. I got it on Thrift Books  I read the second book, Brian's Winter and loved it.  Children's books with awards are usually good...adult books with awards not so much.  I love books on survival and self-sufficiency and relying on your own wits to survive.  It sounds like real life to me! LOL!  I haven't read it yet but if it's anything like the second book it will be good.
I got a little done on my Jingle's sock but not much.......I have finished the cuff and it's 6 inches of straight garter (knit) stitch now which is nice and relaxing and t.v. worthy.
I had to put it aside (per usual) as I have 2 birthday presents to make for my son and SIL in January.  I decided to make them house slippers; a free pattern on Ravelry that Jaclyn of the Brooklyn Knitfolk podcast has been making and gifting for Christmas presents.  The only thing I would like to do different is get some kind of non-slip something for the bottoms.  If you know of anything or have used something like that for slippers please let me know.  I would appreciate it.  You knit these on circulars but back and forth for the back of the slipper and then join in the round for the front and then seam up the back with a mattress stitch.  She said it was easy and fun and she made 3 pair so she  must have liked making them.  They're also very popular on Ravelry.
I finally got some Christmas cookies made last night.....I know, I am slow like a slug and I have yet to adjust for my "slowing down" but I'm getting there, I hope.   I also washed Bob Ross and today I will press and frame and get more packages off in the mail.  This Christmas has been in 2 stages....first the goods and then the goodies!
Are you enjoying the aftermath of Christmas?  I got in on one sale; Craftsy had all their classes on sale and I got the Home Yarn Dyeing course but have yet to even look at it.  It was half-price and I had been eyeing it for awhile.  If you sign up for their newsletter they will notify you when they have sales.  They have lots of free patterns and classes in just about anything you might be interested in such as cooking, baking, photography, and jewelry not counting supplies for it all.  Right now they have 70% off of kits, fabric and supplies until the end of the year....which is getting mighty close!
Do you have plans for the New Year or New Years Eve?  I am missing the football and sports....dang it! But I will persevere and not renew my satellite until maybe after I move....I am determined to move sometime before it's too late, I hope! LOL!  Downsizing does not come naturally to me.
BTW, Jingles, the Christmas cat is really lonely and cries when I go over there.  I feel so bad for her and she's hardly eating at all.  It even looks like she's lost weight....not good but she is eating the treats I bring her and she's drinking as I can see by cleaning out her litter box.  Her Mom won't be back until the 5th of January so I pray she will be alright....poor thing.  She needs a cat buddy!
Happy Trails!

  1. In our household, Christmas lasts until the 6th of January. That is yhe feast of the 3 kings (Epiphany). So making Christmas cookies is only natural. As you know, I am decluttering my home too. I have joined a professional organizer's blog where you take 91 days to declutter. It's not as daunting as doing ut on your own. Look up: blog.maryorganizes.co

As for shawls (see, I read my comments)......I give 90% of them away. The one I have now is really more of a shawlette for the neck. I miss Ruth on the YOP group and her personal blog too. I do communicate with her thru her ravelry group and thru ravelry emails too. She is quite personable.

Gosh, this is long enough. Give Miss Jingles a scratch for me. At keast she come out to great you where my 2 cats I am watching stay hidden under the bed.

    1. Thank you for the organizing blog...maybe that will help. I was on a real roll until I had to stop for Christmas but I started on my room today and made some progress this afternoon. I like the shawlettes! My neck gets cold but turtlenecks seem to choke me so shawlettes and cowls are right up my alley!Yes, Ruth is a doll and how she does it all with all those kids is amazing!

Interesting that she uses flip flops as a base, it may work for knitting too!
I am lining up supplies for projects for the New Year. Some I have really been looking forward to!!

    1. Those are interesting...more like real shoes. I found some gripper fabric specifically for slipper bottoms also for kid's Dr. Denton's footed jammies. It was on Amazon. Really, What's NOT on Amazon? I also found some elastic with metal clips that you use on fitted sheets like mine where the elastic is shot. I was going to resew the elastic but the clips look so much easier, I think. They're similar to the clips they used to put on kids coats to hold their mittens when they took them off so they wouldn't get lost. I too am planning this years projects...especially for gifts and birthdays as this year I was totally not ready and there's no excuse! You'll have to join the Ravelry group and show off your projects! Or at least on your own blog.

  3. Gary Paulsen is a gifted writer and I may read Hatchet some day. His memoir "Pilgrim on a Steel Steed" (hope that is the right title) is wonderful. I read it and gave it to my son who has a motorcycle.

    1. There's something out there as my daughter and her family were sick right before Christmas. She's still coughing and really tired....luckily she's off this week although I don't think that is how she wanted to spend her vacation. Glad to hear you are recuperating.

  5. I've been looking at those slippers that Jaclyn is making. She sure whips them out quickly doesn't she? Poor Jingles. She probably doesn't know why she's alone so much. I feel so badly for animals. I explain things to them, but they don't understand. Ha! Ha! You get so much done my friend. You are an inspiration to me.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. You would put Jaclyn to shame if you knit them....probably 15 minutes per pair for you! LOL! I did find slipper gripper fabric on Amazon BTW, in case you decide to make them. Yes, animals are like little children....they just don't get it.

  6. OK, Now see Sam, that post made me tired. Lots of energy days are so much fun, we all should have more of those. Cute little boy needlework you made, and all those good things you have been cooking, and of course I always like to see your books. And the gifts you were sent are so nice. Snow here today, I will be staying in, who knows maybe I will get one of those amazing energy bursts.
