Happy Belated New Year!!!

It didn't slip my mind but there is still much going on here.  I spend until January 10th celebrating the Christmas season, New Years, and my birthday which was Monday.  I review the past year and set goals and of course, celebrate in my own quiet fashion.
On my birthday I cooked a meal in the crock pot and used this recipe
It was very good.  I served it with broccoli. I also made myself a cherry dump cake but instead of using pie filling I use unsweetened cherries in juice.  I have to have it with butter pecan ice cream too! LOL!  I try to eat healthy except on special days and I figure my birthday is one of them!  I turned 67 but it was no big deal because all last year I thought I was 67 already!  I did that one other year when I was 44...I thought I was 45 all that year......you can tell age doesn't phase me.
Since my girls are all rescue animals, I don't know when their birthdays are so we all celebrate on my birthday too.  They each got a little bowl of ice cream!  I wanted to watch a movie....The Holiday but it wasn't available for free so I watched Zorro instead.  We even had coke with ice and popcorn I made (the girls got a couple kernels of popped corn but no coke with ice).   It was a fun day and the food and snacks were delicious! LOL!
I also have 2 other birthdays in January so I started to quickly make some finger-less mitts for my son and another try at a hat for my SIL.
There's much more done on the mitts since this picture was taken but I have to make 2 so I best hurry up! LOL!  Today I spent most of the day gong through and clearing out old files and setting my budget up for 2016.
I also froze some chicken broth I made using only boneless chicken breasts and you won't believe how good it tastes!  I used this recipe
I just saved the liquid and I then labeled 1 quart freezer bags and put 2 cups in each bag.  If you use a bowl and a funnel you don't need one of those fancy bag holders.  It worked like a charm!
I've been doing a little cleaning too....but not much! LOL!

Happy New Year and Happy Trails!

  1. Happy Birthday sweet friend. We are very close in age. I'll have a birthday in a couple of weeks and we will be just one year apart! No wonder we have so much in common. Since I can't eat sugar because of allergies, I'll have to get creative. I hope you have wonderful week! Sending you LOTS of birthday hugs, Diane

  2. Thank you, Diane. Your friendship means a lot to me. How about Splenda? I've cooked with that and even have a recipe book using it. It's equal parts to sugar in recipes. Thank you for the birthday hugs!

  6. HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY to you!!
Love The Holiday.. such a fun movie, and I adore the little English cottage :)
I haven't watched Zorro forever.. I need to watch it again.

Like your celebration meal and treats.. sounds like a great way to celebrate your special day.

I smiled when I read about you forgetting how old you are. I tend to do that too :)

Have a happy day, my friend.

  7. Happy belated birthday! I'm the same way about age. When I was about 28 (boy was that a long time ago!), I kept thinking I was 30. I would say to my dad, "I'm 30 years old, I can do XYZ." He never called me on it either. It may be because my husband is five years older, I think I'm older too. Although yesterday, I said my husband was five years older than he really is! The pasta looks yummy, and popcorn and a movie sounds like my kind of fun. We always have to save a little popcorn for our dog; he loves it.

    1. yes but ever since I went to Windows 10 it doesn't seem to work. You can send a regular email from your email but not from blogger for some reason. Sorry about that!

  9. Happy belated birthday! My husband turns 60 on Saturday. I think it's bothering him a little. I'll be 56 on February 1 and I have to say, birthdays have never phased me a bit. I just keep moving on! Your birthday dinner sounds lovely. I like how you share with the girls. Chloe loves a bit of popcorn when we have it.
    Have a wonderful Thursday!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. A slightly belated Hau'oli la hanau to you. Glad you treated yourself to a yummy, homecooked meal. Can't go wrong with chicken and pork fat. How fun for your furry kids to score too with ice cream.

    1. Thank you, Stefanie! I've been thinking of you with all the rains out there. I hope you all are doing okay. I know you needed it but gosh amighty...not all at once! Is that Hawaiian? One of my favorite Christmas songs is the one where they sing Merry Christmas in Hawaiian..."where the palm trees grow"...each year I have to relearn it! LOL!

  13. Happy Birthday Sam! I have found using a tall large size plastic cup works great I put the storage bag inside and fold the edges of the bag over the sides of the glass...works for me! You are so busy, I need to make lists too! I finally got all the birthdays and anniversaries on the 2016 calendar! :)
