Recipe Roundup!

I just had to share this with you as it was so easy and so good!  I cut the recipe in half but still used a 1/2 pound of bacon.  I'm bad that way and I love bacon.  Bacon is the reason I will never be able to be a vegetarian.  There, I've said it.  I used to just "doctor up" canned baked beans and had no real recipe but if you knew me you would say, "Sam, use a recipe", as they never turned out the same twice.  So, I searched for the "best baked bean recipe" and I swear I found it!  I got it from www.food.com and it had 5 stars from 68 people!

The perfect addition to picnics and barbecues! Simple and delicious. Sure to become one of your favorites. My mother makes this for every family get together. Ham could be added, or more ketchup if desired, but try it this way first - you'll love it!

Ingredients Nutrition

Directions

  1. Cut bacon into bite size pieces.
  2. Cook bacon in microwave, checking after each minute, or cook in a skillet, draining fat.
  3. Don't let it get crisp.
  4. Meanwhile, mix the remaining ingredients in a 3 quart casserole dish.
  5. Add bacon and mix a little.
  6. Bake uncovered for one hour at 350*.
  7. It's best if they set out to cool for one hour before you serve them.
Enjoy and Happy Trails!

  1. I know I would love these too. We eat a lot of meals that need beans and potato salad for sides. Tonight we had hamburgers and corn on the cob. Wish you could have popped over for dinner! Have a great weekend my friend. Hugs, Diane

  3. Sounds delicious. I have been buying "pre-cooked" bacon at Aldi's and heating it in the microwave. Bacon was on sale at my grocery and I bought some. That pre-cooked stuff cannot compare. Bacon is the best!

  4. I buy thick bacon. I soak my beans pinto and great northern overnight . Then I bring them to a boil and rinse them twice before cooking them for about an hour. Then cut the bacon into chunks and fry up with onion. Add it to the cooked rinsed beans. Then I mix up about a bottle+ of dark mollasses, about 1 cup brown sugar, ketsup and mustard salt and pepper and bake in a roaster for a couple of hours...then when cool I make up bags for the freezer and we take them out when we are hungry for beans! I never measure the ketsup or mustard...:)

    1. What a great idea! Thank you! I had no idea you could make them ahead and then freeze but it makes sense.

    1. Are you talking about what we call BLT's here in the states? Bacon, lettuce and tomato on toast with mayonnaise. YUM! That's summer treat for sure.

    1. I will try to be a better visitor and blogger! So glad you got to read them as I'm never sure if people get them as emails or not. I feel so close to some of you that I literally "miss" you when I don't visit! Isn't that wonderful though that we can feel so close to people we have never met? If bloggers ran the world there would never be war...wouldn't that be wonderful? Thank you for stopping by, Helen, as I know you are way busier than I am for sure! I'm just older and slower! LOL!
